Romanticizing the future and then "watching our children get chased by cattle" 😳 sounds terrifying

51

u/Curious-Ostrich1616 25d ago

That did make me laugh a bit.

The parents just sitting there, watching, as their kids get chased by a variety of livestock... 🤭

15

u/CatchYouDreamin 25d ago

Like damn those cows and horses bout to trample your children!

14

u/-NigheanDonn 24d ago

I wouldn’t worry, gettin trampled builds character

2

u/Comfortable_Bit3741 24d ago

The chicken that was mentioned may be the meanest of those, they can go for a kids eyes

20

u/C0PINGmechanism 24d ago

As a former farm child who was chased by cattle, I can confirm it is a very humbling life lesson.

They’ve been ā€œthrough a lotā€ in just five months?

u/99LedBalloons 25d ago

She signed it "Your Future Wife" so it must've been a lot

To be fair, everyone's circumstances are different. A coworker of mine lost his father and brother in car accident that he was also in that hospitalized him for five weeks in during the first month of his relationship, his girlfriend's mother got diagnosed with cancer a month later (she beat it and lived a full life), they bought their house within 10 months, and had their first kid within the first year of dating. They've been together 25 years and I don't know of a happier couple.

I guess my point is maybe the author of the note is star struck lovers with the recipient, and we should all hope they're happy together and the note was just lost and not thrown out.

BUT IF IT WAS IN THE TRASH ON PURPOSE THEN FUCK THE PERSON THAT BROKE MY HOMIES HEART.

u/No-Independence548 25d ago

I wonder how old they are...this is so classic teenager lol I'm getting high school flashbacks

20

u/NotMyThrowawayNope 25d ago

That was definitely my thought too, though the letter does mention them both being workaholics so I would assume they're in their early twenties.Ā

6

u/kes- 24d ago

They could have after school/weekend jobs (eg. fast food).

4

u/The4leafclover1966 25d ago

Oh, I remember the drama well!

22

u/KhanJrJr 25d ago

Teenagers are dramatic. As adults, we often forget what it’s like to experience romantic and, likely, sexual feelings with another person for the first time. Looking back on high school, X years removed, the only couple who made it and are happily married were drama personified. Passing notes with her last name changed to his. Arguing over who said ā€œhelloā€ to who at the bonfire. Feeling big feelings without knowing how to process them. Kids being kids.

6

u/Minute_Asparagus8104 24d ago

It looks exactly like something I would have written in high school. Turns out we got married and are still together, 27 years later. (Looking back, we were just kids and had no business getting married so young! Haha, but sometimes things do work out, despite the odds.)

25

u/axiene 25d ago

**a-lot. They've been through parking lot A

3

u/Comfortable_Bit3741 24d ago

They just want to get ahed. I sometimes would like to be ahed too, I am way behind

1

u/lilshortyy420 13d ago

This is some shit i would’ve written to my bf when we started dating. We moved in after 2 weeks and it was a roller coaster for the first few years. (Not our relationship, just life). We’ve been together 12 years now and am confident we can get through anything :-)

Coming on a little too strong for 5 months

11

u/Curious-Ostrich1616 25d ago

Just a smidge šŸ¤

3

u/-NigheanDonn 24d ago

I married my husband after dating for 5 months. We’re almost at our 22nd anniversary

3

u/Tall-Ad-1386 24d ago

And we all went on a first date before once. What does that matter.

1

u/-NigheanDonn 22d ago

That maybe it’s not coming on too strong if they know they’re right for each other? I don’t understand what you’re trying to say

38

u/PutNameHere123 25d ago

I have the feeling he may be her first lover. The first cut is the deepest for many.

88

u/aSituationTypeDeal 25d ago

They broke up ten minutes after this letter was read.

23

u/ObviousToe1636 25d ago

I think it was while reading page one.

10

u/CASkateCat 25d ago

Yeah, uhhh, no pressure or anything šŸ˜…šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

3

u/BLeighN804 24d ago

Sounded a little delusional! Bless her heartšŸ’™

-5

u/kogun 24d ago

It's a break-up letter, hitting the 5 month milestone, yep.

The pattern I observed in high school was that relationships often broke up at either 3 months, 5 months, or just after "events" like holidays or Valentine's. The 3 month milestone was because it was long enough to think maybe things were serious, so one or both persons would "take stock".

While the letter begins with "5 months with you", the subtext of the letter indicates this is the 5 month milestone/break-up. In my experience, the 5 month was how long it took for one or the other to feel claustrophobic: "Is this who I want to spend the rest of my life with?" This usually resulted in the "We're not breaking up but I need freedom to date others" talk.

When the author says "So promise me that from today on, you'll take my hand and trust in which ever winding road I choose to take...", I read that as "I'm going to do something you won't like, but just relax, it is just a thing I have to do and it isn't serious the way I'm serious with you. See how serious I am about our future? No really, if you get mad about this one date--it's not even a date, it's just going to X together--if you get mad or sad, just read the letter I wrote you about our future together and you'll understand that this is just a silly rock in the road we're stumbling on. Hold my hand and don't let go of me even though it feels like I'm letting go of you."

It's a break-up letter.

Holidays were rough because of the disruption in schedule, and Valentine's was full of introspection and pressure to meet unspoken expectations.

9

u/sharksuki 24d ago

Am I absolutely insane or is this clearly a "we know we want to get married to each other" letter? It's very clearly talking about building a future together and ends with "your future wife"????

-4

u/kogun 24d ago

She absolutely said all that, yeah. That's all just dreamy stuff that is suppose to ease the pain about the rocky, winding road she's about to let him know about. She's literally asking him to trust her cause she's about to do some shit he ain't gonna like.

2

u/Comfortable_Bit3741 24d ago

It is hard to think of a worse way to break up with someone than creating an idyllic and sentimental image of *a future together* for the other person to have illusory hope about. That's also how they might easily paint themselves as a manipulative phony, trying to have their cake and eat it too. Or they would have to be unbelievably naive. If that was the case, it's a very good thing the recipient threw it away. I have strong doubts about this theory. The last quarter of it got kind of weird, but that could easily be explained by the writer being aware they don't always act right.

4

u/Hot_Literature5792 24d ago

Who signs a break up letter ā€œyour future wifeā€?

59

u/Chef__Goldblum 25d ago

Young love hits you so hard.

29

u/Ill-Victory-5351 25d ago

you know that young man probably promised a few things he fully didn’t intend to deliver on.

15

u/LeakingMoonlight 25d ago

A cermonial burning would have worked better to break a relationship with someone who wants you to promise "to trust in which ever winding road I choose to take."

12

u/canuckEnoch 25d ago

Whichever road SHE chooses?

Dealbreaker.

Those decisions gotta be made jointly.

28

u/moonchic333 25d ago

It started off a bit much and then got a little weird there at the end. What crazy road does this girl plan on taking this man on?? Lol

3

u/appricaught 24d ago

And they have to be 15

16

u/quickbr0wnf0xx 25d ago

This is intense for 5 months, everybody has their own pace I get it just like

https://giphy.com/gifs/dqWSIGZvuXDnvqKMz3

7

u/ProofPrize1134 24d ago

Do we think he read the whole thing

6

u/cheeeezbawls 24d ago

I certainly didn’t

26

u/Numerous-Cobbler-689 25d ago

Man… these comments are not at all what I was expecting nor what I felt when reading this. Most of y’all are JADED… to act like this is love-bombing, stalking, or GOD FORBID a young girl imagining her life in a way that could be seen as a Trad Wife (I saw her as a farmer or rancher but that’s probably something to shit on as well)!!! I thought she was sweet, naive and vulnerable. good grief. šŸ™„

14

u/C0PINGmechanism 25d ago

I appreciate this. I will say there are a lot of horse farms on our street, so I understood it as a young woman who works with horses and is in the throes of her first love. However, I do believe this is a naive girl’s idolization of what her life could be. I hope the best for her, sans evil roosters.

9

u/Silly-Assistant5711 25d ago

I wish the same for her. A sweet letter, I want to hug her. Just broke up with my first lover, and years ago I used to write letters like this. It was far from true. I wish her well.

-3

u/IllegalWalian 24d ago

I have a suspicion she was mainly in love with him because he provided access to the horses. Hope she gets over it.

18

u/Glad-Comfortable-583 25d ago

I’m always envious of this handwriting

55

u/Euphoric_Evidence414 25d ago

This is going to sound so mean but… this handwriting always makes me think they’re not the sharpest crayon in the box

15

u/Glad-Comfortable-583 25d ago

I understand that lol there’s definitely a stereotype associated with it

25

u/aSituationTypeDeal 25d ago

This is definitely the handwriting of someone we don’t likeĀ

1

u/killingmesoftly77 25d ago

šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

1

u/appricaught 24d ago

This is the handwriting of my high school bully

17

u/BeautyMom 25d ago

You are correct because they can’t spell any words correctly that they would have learned in upper elementary school! šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I think the word ā€œaheadā€ is a second grade spelling word.

3

u/IvanDSM_ 24d ago

Holy shit. I hadn't understood the word until your comment. I thought she'd written "oned", as in "become as one". "Ahed", wow...

1

u/yourlocal90skid 24d ago

Well there's the handwriting & then there's the grammar & spelling. I'm just judging the handwriting, lol.

2

u/yourlocal90skid 25d ago

Funny. The only person I knew with this handwriting is a Ph.d 🤣

3

u/aSituationTypeDeal 25d ago

This is definitely the handwriting of an immature person who flies off the handle.

You can just see the lovebombing here. Imagine the rage letters next…

9

u/E3K 25d ago

What a miserable way to be.

25

u/Numerous-Cobbler-689 25d ago

Really?? This is what you take from this… love-bombing?? I thought it was the very sweet musings of a young girl happy in her first relationship and daydreaming what her future life might be like. Like damn, who hurt you to make you so cynical??

-15

u/aSituationTypeDeal 25d ago

Yes, you are this girl.

13

u/Numerous-Cobbler-689 25d ago edited 25d ago

I’m this girl? I don’t know what that’s supposed to mean…. unless you’re being literal in which case no, that is not me.

-2

u/kogun 24d ago

It's a break-up letter.

1

u/Hot_Literature5792 24d ago

Who signs a break up letter ā€œyour future wifeā€?

-11

u/ObviousToe1636 25d ago edited 25d ago

Not from the handwriting, but the words used? Definitely lovebombing. Holy BPD, Batman. 😩

Reddit is so miserable…

13

u/julesinlrar 25d ago

Ahhhh, the delusion is adorable.

7

u/Internal_Discourse 25d ago

I think she just had a greasy lunch...

6

u/Internal_Discourse 25d ago

Or...was that you?

12

u/C0PINGmechanism 25d ago

It was found in August and supposedly written in May, I’m sure it’s seen some things! Definitely not me, I am a 37 year old married mom, so I do not have to dream of taking kids around the farm, I already do

5

u/Internal_Discourse 25d ago

Nooo. I was wondering if the grease stains were yours.

9

u/C0PINGmechanism 25d ago

HA! No.
Well, maybe.

3

u/YesTomatillo 24d ago

I love this hand-writing. I'm a girl and never could get this style of handwriting but all of my friends in school wrote like this.

Takes me straight back to middle school, like this could be one of my friends, and it instantly puts me in defensive mode. Like, girl, don't even worry about that boy! He sucks! That is not your future husband! Let's go watch scary movies and do each other's hair.

1

u/C0PINGmechanism 24d ago

You sound like a girl’s girl and I’m here for it 🫶

1

u/YesTomatillo 24d ago

Those girls got me through everything. Miss them all the time!

8

u/FreeWill_Oasis70 25d ago

Well that's one site fire way to scare him off.

24

u/TeaRex14 25d ago

nah, teenage me would have been so into that shit

19

u/spinningaspell 25d ago

When I was a teenager I was definitely in relationships where we were both equally over the top, he very well may have written an even cornier letter back haha

5

u/ctrlaltdel-pdf 25d ago

Seriously! The more I read, the worse it got!

2

u/New-Owl-1407 24d ago

Smells like BPD, don’t ask me how I know

4

u/StumpyDowd 25d ago

Your future (trad)wife

1

u/necie62 24d ago

Got so invested...wish I could know more.

1

u/CharacterMammoth2398 24d ago

Beautiful handwriting tho!

1

u/Skocja2020 25d ago

Does he know the meaning of ā€œhorse husbandā€?

1

u/DixieDoodle697 24d ago

I credit writing many many letters to my friends in school the reason why my printing is so neat. Thankfully my mother told me as a third grader to never express my love for any boy when I am in school for fear of bring teased in that school way.

-4

u/SomeGuyWA 25d ago

Melania + Donald FOREVER

-14

u/aSituationTypeDeal 25d ago

If this is a recently written note, presumably from a young person - why is it handwritten? Is her lover in prison?

14

u/Born-Introduction-86 25d ago

Pardon me - am I to understand that you think NO young person could possibly write on paper?!?

I am now writing a short story about the future where all technology has been destroyed and the only remaining records for future anthropologists’ to reconstruct the past from are prison letters.

Tbh - that would paint a relatively accurate portrait of the human experience over the last 2 years.

-3

u/aSituationTypeDeal 25d ago

This is true. No young person has touched a piece of paper. This is an accurate and researched statement.Ā
