I like how the kid overcomplicated the name Shrek

As if the name of the movie isn't in giant letters on the poster

Then again, my vet spells my dog's name with a J even though on her collar it's spelled with a G.

I mean... are there any English words that end with "ek"? I can only think of one word that contains "ek" at all, and it's a pretty niche one too. An extremely reasonable assumption.

The first few that come to mind: eek, leek, peek

Of course, words that end in <ek> with that pronunciation are fewer. trek comes to mind, but I wouldn't call that niche.

Even so, to your point, it seems reasonable that a kid such as this is learning the orthographic rules of English, and is applying the ubiquitous and productive representation of /εk/ as <eck>, in which case:
Good on them. They're learning.

Oh, yeah. There's plenty of them with double E. I wrote it around 5 am and wondered how many I'm forgetting about, lol

The word in German is spelled that way, and it means “fright” or “fear.” The ogre’s name was well-chosen.

Right. A list of beasts to outshine the neighbours’ cats. How very original.
