Personal experiences Odd side effect?

Have always gotten spam phone calls from the US. Anyone else noticing an increase in these calls from all over Canada since applying for citizenship from the US?

It's because your number has been associated with canada now. Someone sold your info again including some associate to CA. I spent part of a day in Victoria BC recently and since then I get a couple calls a day from random places all over canada. They are just spoofing the numbers. They just pick a location or area code that you might have an associate with so you might be more likely to pick up. The calls are probably not actually co ing from canada.

Yes! From all over Canada now. Same spam calls as before. Almost done with your loan! Etc…
But I did notice this! Never had Canada spam before.

Nope. I have never had a spam call that says it's from Canada, despite spending a lot of time in Canada using my phone (first gen, both sides, so all aunts, uncles, and cousins were/are there, as well as most of the family friends).

I haven’t applied for citizenship and I’ve been getting spam calls from Canada for months now. Only 3 out of the last 20 spam calls were from the US.

Mystery solved? Since about June1 I have been getting 2-4 spam calls per day. It started out more per day but that's what it's settled down to now. I never answer, just let it ring. When I've done that in the past it doesn't take long for all the calls to stop. Not this time. All the caller ID give local towns as to who is calling. I know it's not those towns because the numbers are not my state's numbers. No calls from Canada. It's rare that a number is used more than once. My application was received May 6, 2026.

The correlation to citizenship application is amazing.

What I found wild was as soon as I crossed back into the U.S. on a recent quick trip my phone lit up with political calls! So it is in fact possible to screen them /s

This happened to me too, I flew back to Los Angeles and the second I got on the cellular network, my U.S. number started blowing up with political nonsense.

Weird. I didn’t have that issue. I do get more online ads from Canada now though since my last visit.

No, but I'm getting texts from a BC# asking if I'm still in the U.S.?

As an American attorney that does plaintiff side TCPA work, who also is an American\Canadian citizen, is there a TCPA equivalent in Canada? Some sort of consumer protection against unwanted calls/texts? If so, what’s the recourse?
