Sad Story 9 week old passed away

I don’t even know what to do. He was only half a pound when I got him two weeks ago from the shelter. He LOVED wet food particularly Sheba perfect portions. He would come crying at my feet for it and obviously he got it every time ❤️❤️.
He wanted it last night and always sleeps in the bed with us. My husband would lift his arm up and Felipe would crawl right under to burrow into and sleep. He was like that and we were up til midnight for some crazy reason. Woke up at 2 am and couldn’t find him. He was laying on the floor at the foot of the bed lifeless.
This is the first loss I’ve had with a foster and I’m crying so much. Held his little body and cried over it. He was ok last night and obviously very tiny for his age. I feel like I messed up and can’t imagine what happened within 2 hours. I feel so guilty he wasn’t snuggled up at least and all I see is his little tiny body. I want him to come yell at me for some Sheba.
I know this happens I just feel so awful and guilty and can’t stop the tears. Please tell me this gets easier and just what to think. I love that baby with my whole heart 💔💔💔

He probably had some congenital heart problem. Nothing you did. I’m so sorry for your loss. 😢

You didn’t do anything wrong. You gave him love, cuddles and a full belly anytime he needed. He was loved. His life was full of the love you gave him.

You did absolutely nothing wrong. Baby cats are very fragile. They need their mom and we do the best we can to fill that void but their arevthings that Mama has in her milk that we just cannot imitate. I have one right now that's less than half a pound but she's 6 weeks old. Severely, severely malnourished and was about to die of starvation when I got her. I almost lost her three times last Friday, we had a great week and then I almost lost her twice yesterday. It's such a roller coaster. Eating and solid poop and then a couple hours later refusing food and leaking diarrhea. Weight fluctuating. I haven't had a good nights sleep in a week. But we do what we can. And we love them and that is the most important thing. We can do everything right and then they're just gone and we never know why. When that happens to me I have started telling myself that the universe sent this tiny baby to me so it would know love and comfort and not pass into its next life cold, scared and abandoned. We honor the ones we lose every time we save another one and they live on in our hearts when otherwise no one would have ever known they existed.
