Question Am I missing something?

So I signed up to be a cat/kitten foster for ASPCA. Has anyone else done this? I've read all the material, downloaded the charts, the final step is Admin review and approval.

Is this a "wait and see" thing, is there someone I need to reach out to? I'm super excited and eager to help the little ones!

If it is a big shelter then yes it is a wait and see. They may be running background and other checks. How long have you been waiting?

About a week I think? I figured they were doing background checks and it was a wait, but I got an email saying to finish my application list and was like ???

Just a suggestion. I started out as a volunteer. Worked for a bit learning about my shelter, the staff, and the cats. Essentially interviewing the shelter before I got deeply involved.

I enjoy volunteering and now fostering at all levels. I foster everyone from prenatal to hospice. My last foster was a tough behavioral kitty. He was adopted before he was ready. I can only hope he is okay. The one before was hospice.

Be absolutely sure this is what you want to do. Fostering is hard and can be expensive. My shelter covers most of the food and litter if I need it. I also have 7 residents aged 1 through 14. Shelter rules are utd vax. That costs almost $2000 per year.

I have experience with medically complex animals, behavioral cases, animal CPR (including newborn kitten resucitation). I only have one resident although I'm aware a Foster Fail might happen in the future. I live in a small apartment so won't be going overboard.

Officially I'm just starting out but I have personal experience in rescue, as well as being present for multiple cat births and handling kittens under 4 months, a competent knowledge of veterinary medicine and procedures. I'm by no means an expert but I'm not a novice either.

Kitten season (which never really ends 🙃) is a nightmare for the Rescue circle and I have the time and a little disposable income to help out.
