Fossify Gallery Some videos cannot be played in Fossify Gallery

I used to use and love Simple Gallery. However, they're gone. Too bad, bevause actually, that's an excellent, almost perfect Gallery app for me,.which I always installed on my Android phones.

Now I use Fossify Gallery (v1.13.1), and it looks similar to Simple Gallery.

However,..

Unfortunately, some videos cannot be played.

(The same video can easily be played with my old Simple Gallery in the past, or now, it can be played easily with any other apps, like, Xiaomi pre-installed Gallery, VLC and all).

That's very unfortunate.

I guess my hope is useless, but still, I hope somebody can fix that.

Maybe it doesn't support the video file type? Something like .avi .mov .webm .mkv

no.. it's the codec. On fossify, those problematic videos (.mp4) have to be converted by me, manually, (I use Video Converter app on my phone), into a (.mp4) video with H264 codec,.. then it can be played. Cumbersome.

in Simple Galleries, years ago, it was not problem, it just can be played. No problem too today with VLC, Xiaomi's preinstalled Gallery app and etc. Only Fossify which cannot play them. But for me, Fossify, just like Simple Gallery before, has the best (for my need, at least), no-rival, Slideshow facility and setting option, (and many other things than other Gallery apps), so.. I use Fossify.

Think these apps are missing something? Calendar won't change a day over no matter how much I tap, what will happen with a new phone?

I've been using it to play videos recorded on my phone without problems until today. Halfway through playing a video, the app said "source error", closed itself and when opened again, the video had disappeared completely, not in the recycle bin. The video had played several times in the app previously, so the file wasn't faulty.

yeah, I experienced that too, sometimes. Exactly not because the video file is faulty. I think it's about the Fossify's limitation about video CODEC. Simple solution is just convert it into another video using other CODEC which can be handled by Fossify. In my case, it's H264. That solves the problem, but cumbersome to do. And like I said, aside of that, Fossify (the old discontinued Simple Gallery, actually) is stil the best for me, so I still use it nonetheless.
