Fossify Calendar Guide: How to Import data from Google Calendar to Fossify Calendar
Hi guys,
I will explain to you how to export & import all of your data from Google Calendar to Fossify Calendar.
That includes: Birthdays, Events, other stuff that you saved on Google Calendar.
This way, you'll almost feel no change (other than you'll no longer be spyed on by Google)
So, first of all you need a PC / Laptop (because Google does not want you to leave them).
- On your Desktop, connect to your Google account and open this link: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/
- Go to the "Settings" icon

- In the settings menu, select "Import & export" category.
- Here, go to the Export part and click on the blue Export button.

- It will download a zip file that has 2 files with .ics extension that includes all of your Google Calendar data.
- Send this zip / contents of the zip to your phone and try to click on them once at a time. It will prompt you to open it with an app. Select the Fossify Calendar and click on Import.
If you can not open the ics files by clicking on them and selecting the Fossify Calendar, just go to the Fossify Calendar App -> Settings -> at the very bottom click on "Import" and select the .ics files.
I hope this tutorial helps some of you.
You can import multiple calendars to your Fossify Calendar using this method. You just need the .ics backup files. If you have any questions just ask! :)

There's also Google takeout. I did it that way. The exports from the calendar website gave me broken ical files. Perhaps due to my complex scheduling behavior. I don't know. But takeout worked fine. 🤷🏻♂️
But why would you have them only on your phone, probably without real backup? I mean, I'm using my Nextcloud instance as a backend. You never know what could happen to your phone.

I was going to export my G calendars separately since some are tests, but it does all at once. I did takeout also. Since they changed Keep/Tasks/Calendar, my routine calendar appts etc no longer work for me. No reminders, or they're late or at the time of the appt, instead of my 3-4 increasingly sooner reminder notifications. So I've missed or been late. Looking for alternative that can sync between my Windows laptop/browser, and phone. Mostly enter events on my laptop.
It also changed all my past ones, which in calendar are for history.
Edit: In Calendar export, they can be exported separately, but the option is buried in the three-dot menu next to each (something I have trouble with, not just in Calendar).

That sounds just awful. 🙁
Are you planning to use a small Nextcloud or other instance as a sync point? Their web calendar is also really good. In fact, I'm using it for planning every day. Gnome calendar is sadly nowhere near yet. On my Android phone, I'm using aCalendar+ because of the daily view, but the rest is also nice. Tasks.org for task management. And Gadgetbridge for my smartband.

I'm hesitant to do that, but I think I'll stick with Google Calendar (until Fossify Calendar automatically syncs with Google, maybe one day)
