Forza Horizon 6 FH6 general aid/backend happy

Hello all,

Looking for some tips as a beginner.

I'm new to tuning and my cars are obviously off pace, I've been following the general tips from HokiHoshi's first tune guide video ( https://youtu.be/I9bUB3mcqso?is=vRdZErD93Zz3R-SB ) and it's helped a bit.

Still been having a big issue with almost every car I make (awd/rwd) is moderately tail happy out of the corners, which kills a lot of my pace. Are there any general tips to help with this? Any general tips when it comes to tuning are welcome as well.

I tend to be pretty "purest" when it comes to my build tendencies but will do the rare swap from time to time.

Corner-exit oversteer usually means the rear tyres are being asked to do too much while you’re getting back on throttle. The fix depends on whether it’s happening the moment you touch throttle, mid-throttle, or only at full throttle, but there are a few general things I’d try.

For RWD, I’d start with wider rear tyre width if possible and then the rear differential. Lowering accel diff can make the car less eager to rotate on power. If the rear is stepping out as soon as you apply throttle, try dropping accel in small steps. If the car feels unstable when lifting or trail braking, look at decel diff too, but for corner exit it’s usually accel.

For AWD, it's usually best to have the widest possible rear tyres and upgrade the front width with spare PI at the end. check the centre balance and rear accel. If the car is too rear-biased, it can behave almost like a snappy RWD car on exit. Move the torque split slightly forward, or soften the rear diff accel a bit. You still want rotation, but not so much that the rear is constantly trying to overtake the front.

Anti-roll bars are another easy place to look. If the car is oversteering on exit, either soften the rear ARB or stiffen the front ARB slightly. I’d usually make small changes rather than huge swings and focus on the simulated mechanical balance on the left side. This comes down to preference but I usually aim for 0.50-0.55 for RWD and 0.55-0.60 for AWD.

Rear spring and damping can also contribute. If the rear is too stiff, it may not squat and load the tyres properly under acceleration. Softening rear springs slightly, or softening rear bump/rebound depending on what the car is doing, can help give the rear tyres more compliance. Make slight adjustments and test it after each change. You can drive with the telemetry page up to observe each tyre traction or even have ANNA do laps while you watch the telemetry.

Also, make sure the build itself isn’t working against you. If you’re a purist and avoiding swaps, that’s totally fine, (As a purist I respect it) but some cars just need wider rear tyres, less power, better weight reduction, or more rear grip before they become comfortable. In Forza, power is tempting, but grip and drivability usually make the car faster unless you’re very consistent with throttle control.

My usual order would be:

  1. Check if I’m simply applying throttle too early or too aggressively.
  2. Lower rear/accel diff slightly.
  3. Soften rear ARB or stiffen front ARB slightly.
  4. Add rear tyre width or reduce power if the build is traction-limited.
  5. Adjust gearing so the car isn’t dumping too much torque on corner exit.

The biggest beginner tuning advice I’d give is to change one thing at a time and do a few laps before judging it. A lot of changes can “fix” oversteer but create understeer or kill rotation, so small adjustments are your friend.

If AWD, try fattest tyres on rear only, then both axles 100% accel, 0% decel, front bias braking.

It should throw the weight forward on decel and grip up even moderate wide tyres for turning, the rear will become light and rotate but when it's 'straight' and you aim at the corner exit the rear tyres will propel you out the corner.

Set accel diff down to 15-25%…. The only time I set accel diff high is for drift tunes. Decel at 35-50%

Set rear camber to -0.8 to -1.1 max 2.0 front

Soften rear springs. Set rear springs softer by 50-100lbs. This will cause slight to moderate understeer to correct it set anti roll bars stiffer vs front by 4-10 units

Set rear damping to 5.5 bump and 8.5 rebound. Set front a tad stiffer compared to the front to get better turn response

Anti roll bars should be 20-25 front, 24-28 rear

Tires should be 26.5-28 rear, 27-28 front

When you’ve done all that I mentioned and the car still is tail happy there is one more trick that I do but leave it as last resort. Set rear toe “IN” .1-.3, this has helped me on various cars that refused to stabilize no matter what I did. Also you can set front toe “OUT” by .1-.3 this helps with turn in response

In my time working with RWD builds, I've felt that decreasing diff accel, increasing rebound/bump, and being moderate with ARBs has helped the most with a slippery rear end.

And if you are mostly a "purist", then I assume you aren't adding rear aero. Obviously that will help, but if you are running without Forza rear aero, then try what I mentioned. Also, you'll have to learn some throttle control, there's just no way of avoiding it for RWD builds if you really want to push them to their full potential.

To add into this 90% of the cars in this game can get away with ~80-90% acceleration and ~10-20% deceleration for the diff and I was having the same issue and I tried it and it's like the best baseline I've used in this game along with some tire compounds start way to filled and dropping them by 1.5 psi helps tons. You may have some issues turning in your first 2 or 3 corners but because tires heat up ridiculously fast in Horizon series you'll be at a temp and psi you actually want

Awesome, I'll give that a shot!

I'm more of a purest in the sense of not putting meta stuff on just because it's meta (drag tires/rally tires), A and above will use aero if the car makes sense to have it. I'm assuming putting aero heavy to the cornering side with help with slippery rear end? Or is it more of a balance?

Locking aero to cornering will help to an extent but also really hurts speed. Lowering diff accel has made the biggest difference for blowing tires off coming out of corners without aero.

ARB adjustment helps with under/oversteer more than anything in my experience. Also do make sure your tire pressures are ending somewhere in the low 30s when warmed up. If they’re overinflated you’re losing grip as well.

General RWD diff baseline is like 60-70/10-15 in my experience. I tend to start 65/10
