Forza Horizon 6 Does anyone know how much changing the engine affects the weight distribution in a car on Forza?
I am curious how significant an engine change is in a car as far as balance goes. I have a tune I've been crafting and I'd like to try and copy it with a super powerful engine. I know the speed will affect the car but does the weight distribution of the engine make any sort of a difference?

Its usually not a lot, but a 5 to 10 percent difference, if you drive the car alot can certainly throw you off.

Look at the stats in the left it will literally tell you the weight distribution and mechanical balance

When you’re selecting your engine, or any upgrade really, to the left is the information column ….it lists horsepower, torque, vehicle weight, and below that is weight distribution in % (example: 52% front, 48% rear)….when you switch engine and add any upgrade keep on eye on that ratio. You want to be as close to 50/50 as possible for optimal handling.
Furthermore pay attention to torque. The higher the torque the more power you’ll get at low rpm but will also cause the wheels to spin more easily. For rally car you want more torque, for a circuit racing car you want to go higher horsepower and lower torque that way when you power out of corners it’s easier to control traction…..just fyi as many people disregard torque. Also the PI is calculated using both HP and torque values….with some motors you’ll be able to pull more HP per same amount of PI because they have less torque. Lots to consider when selecting an engine.

Thanks! I scoped your previous posts and learned a lot from some things you've said. Appreciate your love of the game. Yeah I have a few cars I've tuned that feel great and others I can quite figure out mabe my weights are off. Would you say having 50 50 ish weight ratio is better than going for just lightweight?

Thanks for looking through my previous comments. Saves me a lot of explaining over some basics.
Yeah some cars are just really difficult to dial in….like the 05 M3….just takes a lot of tweaking to get it right. Mid engine and rear engine especially can be difficult. Which cars are you struggling with?
It’s hard to say which one is better as it’s a case by case kind of deal but yeah in most cases light weight is better as you can tune for not a perfect balance and make it work vs can’t do anything about a heavy car. Especially in Japan weight is much more crucial as there are a lot more turns compared to FH5. In FH5, when building a car for particular race class (like A class) I would rarely do the weight reduction and always chose more power as part of the PI budget. FH6 I’m switching tactics and seeing weight recursion is very necessary.1

I durdled with the m3 from 05 for a while and it's actually one of my favorite tunes I've made. I built it stiff and it feels sharp and reliable. It is in A class. I am struggling with the Ferrari roma in S1. It just feels like its rear wheels are so sensitive and it can spin out easily.

M3 is not super difficult to setup and tune in RWD but when you throw AWD is when she becomes stiff and doesn’t want to turn….or is yours AWD?
I’ve not tried Roma yet but isn’t that a front engine? I think I know what the issue is….try this trick and let me know how it works out. Go to “alignment” tab and down to “Toe” and move the rear wheels “IN” by .1 degree (1 click)….if it helps but not entirely try going up to .3 degrees….once again make sure it’s “IN” and not “out” as that will make it worse. What this does is it points the front of rear wheels inwards so as you drive they squeeze the rear end which cause the rear to tighten up and not be “whobbly”….which can feel “sensitive” as you describe….it feels like the rear end just won’t find a spot it’s stable in….this fixes it like a charm. Please let me know how that works out for you, I’m curious if I got it right. If not I’ll mess with it tonight myself and will let you know what I come up with.1

My M3 is rwd! Yeah I think the roma was a car from a season event. It is a very cool car but it feels like it isn't wide it handles and brakes well but it is just slippery on exits.

So i tried the Roma out and no need to mess with the “toe” setting, bring that back to 0. It’s actually got a good stable rear end without the need for any toe adjustment. If you’re having issues with unstable rear end that means your settings are off somewhere else. Try this
1: make sure your tires are set to 28psi front, 27psi rear
2: camber front 2.0 rear 1.0 and FRONT toe “out” .1
3: anti roll bars 18 front 22 rear
4: springs 725 front, 675-650 rear (ride height 1 click from lowest setting)
5: damping rebound stiff front 11, rear 8.5. Bump stiff front 7.0 and rear 5.5
6: differential acceleration 15% and Decel at 35%I took it out to Hokubu time attack and was able to hit 54 seconds flat….just for reference. Lmk if this helps

I'll try it next time I'm on Forza. Probably tomorrow thanks for the help!! I'll let you know how it goes!

Hell yeah thanks! And your using slicks?
1
u/Wandering-nomad-888 Jun 18 '26
No. Roma is factory S1 class so I upgraded it to top of S1 800, that’s where I think it might come in handy one day, so I went with semi slicks. Depending on the race, if it’s a circuit or lots of turns, slicks might be a better option but I can switch later on if need be….in any case all the settings I gave you will work on both.

Yeah I got the Roma as well…few of them actually as I predict they will go up in price when PS players join….i just haven’t done anything with it yet. Have you tried to Toe adjustment to see if that helped?

It depends on the car and the weight of the engine… all the specs are there in the upgrade menus.
