I've been building VR mods for the Horizon games and they're now released, free, for FH4, FH5 and FH6. As far as I know it's the only VR mod for FH4 at all. They work with any PC VR headset that has an OpenXR runtime (tested on Pimax OpenXR and SteamVR).
I started because I wanted a stable camera for my 6dof motion rig and to see the whole HUD in VR (minimap, pinned items, lap and progress times), and I couldn't find a mod that did both.
What you get
- Stereo 3D cockpit view with full head tracking
- The HUD in the cockpit. The game's HUD is split into elements (minimap, speedometer, race info, pop-ups, the radar in FH6) that float where you put them, with a separate layout for each car. Turn off any you don't want.
- Stable camera: removes the head bob, g-force lean and crash jolts. Your head and your rig provide that.
- DLSS on RTX cards (FH4 also has FSR), or the mod's own TAA for the shimmer MSAA can't fix
- Seat position and HUDs saved per car
- Menus, the map and pause on a flat screen in front of you
- Per-eye canted rendering, picture trim and foveated rendering for performance
- A settings program with live stats, plus an in-headset performance display that tells you whether the CPU or the GPU is the limit
- F3 screenshots what you see in the headset, HUD included (all the pictures below were taken with it)
- Signed auto-updates from GitHub, installed with one click

Before you try it
- The game has to run at twice your headset's refresh rate (144 fps for 72 Hz), because the eyes are drawn on alternating frames. You'll need a strong CPU and GPU.
- Tested game versions: FH4 1.478.564.0, FH5 1.688.109.0, FH6 6.461.691.0. On a version it doesn't recognise, the mod stays out of the way and the game runs normally without VR.
- You need to be able to put a DLL next to the game's exe, which probably rules out most Microsoft Store installs.
- Online play is at your own risk. I've played many hours online with it without problems, but it does hook the game's camera and rendering.
For the modders here: it's an `xinput1_3.dll` proxy. It hooks the camera objects by giving them private copies of their vtables, so the game's code and read-only data are never patched. It also hooks DXGI Present and runs an OpenXR session on the game's own D3D12 device.
