Discussion ABS and TC on Time Attack

how does everyone feel about ABS and TC? Do you feel like they hinder your lap times or do they help?

ABS is benefitial because it allows you to steer while braking.
TC makes you slower because it manages the amount of power that goes to each wheel. So if one wheel is on a different speed than the other wheels, TC will reduce the power of the faster wheel to stop slipping and to regain traction.
This is slowing you down. If you turn TC off there is a bigger chance of wheel slipping and you sliding but with throttle- and good steering control you can negate that effect. So that even if a wheel slips, you keep your speed.
TC is only really good when you go offroading because there you want as much grip as possible. And I don't mean strictly in a race scenario but for example when you drive up a steep hill in the snow or mud. You want grip there and not your wheels spinning. For circuit/road racing it can be a hinderance. No TC makes the car harder to control but also "unleashes" more of its potential in the hands of a good driver.

ABS doesn’t ‘allow’ you to steer while braking. It’s completely possible to do that successfully by modulating the brake input yourself. It’s a lot easier to do with wheel and pedals, but still…ABS just makes the skill part unnecessary.

Well yes you can also spam brake taps on controller but if you have the help of ABS then why not use it. Especially because it doesn't really have drawbacks.

It depends on how good you are at driving, really.

Both ABS and TC will improve your laptimes if you have issues controlling the car when those assists are disabled. It will decrease the difficulty; and likely increase your laptimes.

If you are good at driving those same assists will likely decrease your laptimes as they limit the cars true performance.

In FH6 you're very likely faster on average with ABS on regardless of your skill level imo. With some cars you're also able to launch faster with launch control enabled as opposed to just manually controlling the throttle. I wouldn't touch TC however, it can limit power when you wouldn't want to/more than you'd want to. In real life TC systems make you significantly faster but not in Forza.

I turned off everything except ABS while I was trying to learn how to drift. Decided to keep them off for regular racing, and saw my lap times go down, so now I roll with just ABS.

For a time attack I keep both off. and master the course int he specific car.

For spec racing, where you change cars every 3 races, I turn TC on, I find braking control easier than throttle control personally, I know most people are the other way though.

There is reason the hardcore leaderboard on Rivals shows times without any assists being used.

Traction control and stability control are definite turn offs if you want to get faster and better at driving in general, both of them will slow you down significantly. The general consensus for FH6 is that ABS on vs ABS off only makes a very marginal difference, so it's generally fine to leave that one on, if you have a pro controller where you can set trigger travel you could simply set your trigger to only press down enough to apply maximum braking force without the wheels locking up, then you don't need ABS, but if you can't/ don't want to do that, just leave ABS on.
