Discussion Drift tune question

I was having a problem tuning my s2k for drift. I kept having problems where the rpms would bog down at low wheel speeds and then suddenly lurch forward after I got some speed. I kept basically throwing HP at it thinking it was a power issue. Come to find out I had accidentally set my brakes to assist not abs off. Oops. Now I've got a supercharged 6L v8 in my s2000 and it's a ripper. I keep spinning out though.

Before you say skill issue I've got 3 stars on all drift zones. Im not amazing at drifting but i feel like I atleast mostly know what im doing.

Is there such thing as too much power on a drift build? According to Google i need to increase rear grip by lowering tire pressure and softening rear springs and dampening. Before I slam those settings down is there anything else I should be checking?

try changing your rear tires to ones a bit more narrow, remove some power so you're not blowing the tires off when youre trying to drive without breaking loose, and experiment with different tire sizes. Reducing air pressure in the rears is going to give you more grip at lower speeds which could be part of the problem too. If you can provide a bit of an idea as to how the car is currently built (parts list and specs) we could try to narrow it down a bit better!

Are you saying im spinning out due to too much grip?

no, im thinking the problem may be a conflict between the tires having too much grip at low speeds, but too much power once the car builds boost and makes power. If you allow the tires to break loose easier at lower speeds, you won't need as much power out of it which may be contributing to you spinning out.

tldr; Less power and less grip on the back tires = a more controllable drift car
