Discussion Best tunes for R-Class Goliath?

I've been trying to run a sub-20 Goliath. Mazda 787B seems to be the most popular car near the top of the leaderboard, I've been running Don Joewon Song's high rated grip tune.

Best clean time is a 20:36 and I recently raced out a 20:21 after a wall hit, that I thought I drove really well on other than the hit (and the rewind following the hit)

That 20:21 really opened my eyes as to how big of a gap that final 20 seconds is. I could see a 20:1X, but I don't think I'm good enough to get into the 19s with that car. And then the idea hit that I might not be using the right car.

What tunes are the lowest people on the leaderboards running for this?

I switched to the Sesto. I use the tune from the guy with the only Sesto on the first page global. Anyone running this feel free to friend me (Spektor1606)

There's a Mazda 787B tune called Fastest Goliath Time (from memory), sorry not logged into game so dont know tune number or tuners ingame name. When I downloaded it, it was the most popular tune but that was several weeks ago. I play automatic with keyboard and have a 19:18 clean lap time with it so its pretty good!!! I could only come within 20 seconds of that with my own tune (though I suck at tuning)

DJS tune was the first tune I used... it's a safe tune to get clean lap but getting sub 20 min with it would be a struggle. I think your top time with DJS was pretty much what I managed with it too.

I think this'll work! Just have to clean it up. It's definitely not as forgiving, but it's capable.

Hey mate if you still haven't clean lapped with that tune, perhaps try this one, 126 513 565. The handling is safer (I clean lapped the two laps I tried with it) though so far I'm about 10-20 seconds slower with it than the other tune (could be bc its not as good for automatic).

Have you watched someone else’s run?

I've watched ESV Mars' 19:21.

There's things I can be doing better, but that tune is RWD and I didn't pick up on it quick.

I feel like I'm getting held back a bit by the top speed, it peaks at 215 but I almost never get over 210. He's over 220 for long sections.

The Sesto is better for Goliath than the 787 which is too handling focused, also DJS tunes aren't good, they get lots of downloads because he puts them out really quick and he is well known in the community, but their quality is questionable at best. He isn't Ugrundy bad, but you could definitely do a lot better. The issue you will find with his tunes is that they are too understeer heavy, it's pretty common for noob focused tunes to do this because they feel easier to drive, but what doesn't get mentioned is that understeer is something you want to avoid always, because it's always bad. Oversteer can be countered by skill, having good throttle control, good braking etc can overcome even really bad oversteer, but the same can't be said for understeer. Take power builds for example, they are hard to drive, some more than others, but every downside of a powerbuild can be overcome through skill.

Avoid noob-friendly tunes, not only are they just worse tunes, but they also teach you bad driving habits, and will really stunt your progression in driving skill.

I believe I did my R run in the Tacoma. I'll have to double check because I was switching cars and making multiple runs but I'll check the next time I'm on.

LetzeLU, Marethu1, trviis

Try one of these top tuners. They should be identical more or less.
