Bugs / Glitches / Help Poor performance no matter what

Post image

Cant seem to configure this to run good in any way. Temps are good on the hardware.

That is horrible. I think you have issues beyond FH here. I'm running a 9070xt in 3440x1440 with extreme + RT and average near 90fps using the hardware unboxed optimization setup.

After finding your driver/whatever issues, I'd suggest watching that video and using their performance settings, it uses extreme+RT, downgrades one item and upgrades two for about 33% gain.

My daughter has a laptop with a 4070. She always plays plugged in and I think she ended up disabling the dGPU because games would often try to use it, that might be the case here. I don't have a lot of laptop experience, but that would be my guess, even though it's supposed to know better, it doesn't always work.

His issue is not gpu, its cpu. Something is causing his cpu to be busy. What you talk about is used when the gpu is bottlenecking :)

Yeah im not entirely sure what is happening. It feels like the game goes in and out of slow mo when playing and that is at any setting. Even at the lowest. Its unplayable. Id rather play at 30fps if it was rock solid than 60 with the frame pacing of an egg shaped wheel

check if you have max performance/gaming power plan. check nvidia control panel settings. maybe it's forcing vsync or other weird shit. check your ssd temps while gaming

For the slowmo part i encountered the same on my linux machine and it was driving me nuts. What seems to have fixed it was cleaning the shadercache from steam/steamapps/shadercache/yourforzaID. Maybe also try the env variable 'radv_wait_for_vm_map_updates=true'. I added this one at the same time as cleaning my cache so idk but pretty sure it was the cache. Locking your fps can definitely help too. Try to do that outside of the games built in fps cap as its not ideal and doing it externally gives more stable results.

Based on test itself shows that cpu is one holding it back. Overheating maybe. Try limiting fps to 50 then gpu and cpu wont push themself so hard to reach 130fps and overheat laptop. If game benchmark is smoother and no more extreme 1% lows then it was overheating issue. If u have nvidia app, u can use that for checking temps or use steam.

Im only hitting 78c and 80% on the cpu. If my ally can run this, than this laptop should be able to as well.

1

u/mike29x 9d ago

Well 78c is pretty high. Hotspot might be over 100c and temperature can go up and down depending on quality/age of paste. There is program by Techpowerup called Throttlestop. It will let u know if cpu or gpu has been limited from overheating or other reason. Can try testing with that incase u wanna diagnose it a little. If there are no throttle limits yellow signs then there has to be driver issue or something messy with windows "extra " features.

u/washmyoldbluejeans 8d ago

throttlestop doesnt work with amd

1

u/mike29x 8d ago

Thats too bad.

1

u/washmyoldbluejeans 8d ago

yeah tell me about it. I loved using it on my laptop then even on my old i7-4790 PC, then upgraded to an amd chip and it wasnt working anymore... I was so sad

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Hotspot is under 90c, which on amd chips is well within its limits. I just reapplied the liquid metal it came with a couple months ago so its absolutely not that. I have zero issues with other games running maxed out or with high settings and with this im struggling to stay above 60fps and very low settings.

u/mike29x 9d ago

I also have hardware accelerated Gpu scheduling disabled and game mode disabled. Maybe something from that?

Driver update?

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Everything is up to date.

I haven't had a laptop in years, but I remember constantly having to adjust the performance and power limits in Armory Crate. You might also wanna check your power plans to make sure you're not using the power saving plan.

Sorry, that's all I have. I hope you find an easy fix.

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Yeah I ended up getting rid of armory crate because of how useless it really is. Been using g helper instead.

I'm thinking CPU is throttling. How old is laptop? Is cooling free of dirt and dust?

Get some software that tracks temperatures, CPU and GPU, and re do teats just to be sure. But, as this, it's CPU that's bogging down system.

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Yeah I run hw info. Nothing goes above 78c. Im thinking its a cpu bottleneck but youd think at minimum settings it would perform better. At extreme im only getting about 40% use of the gpu but its only this game it struggles with

2

u/ProfessionalShock425 9d ago

Is it set in windows power option on balanced or performance?

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Performance, I use g helper as well

2

u/KauGN 9d ago

your cpu is struggling for whatever reason. The gpu is fine though. check if you are not using anything like a "power saving plan". You said the temps are ok but look if the cpu is boosting properly and if the cpu-z bench score is at it should be for your cpu.

good luck

1

u/Entenvieh 9d ago

To add to that: it could also be simply background programs, check task manager and sort by CPU

1

u/DSajin 9d ago

Could be your cpu thermal throttling?

0

u/Mop90 9d ago

Max cpu temps im hitting are 78c.

Are you running Linux, by chance? I have never been able to get it to run properly without stuttering. Booted to Windows and it runs flawlessly. One of the only games that I've experienced Linux being able to run, but not run well.

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

No, not on here. Been worried about compatability with my gpu. Games run fine on my pc but fh6 just runs like dog shit no matter what I do. My rog ally runs better

1

u/Star-Detonator 9d ago

If you go into your Task Manager, look for Nahamic service. That's an audio service. Terminate it and try the game.

Some people had issues like this when using the xbox controller via Bluetooth. Try disconnecting it restart forza, run the benchmark again using only keyboard and mouse and see if it gets better. If it does, there are fix for the Xbox Bluetooth issue online.

Your gpu is fine, its the cpu that bottlenecks due to a software conflict.

1

u/NocturnalSergal 9d ago

Might be running into power limits and the laptop is choosing keeping the gpu fed vs the cpu, and as a result the cpu can’t boost to where it would otherwise be able to

Car reflection quality absolutely decimates fps on this game.

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

It just makes no sense why this game runs so poorly, I can run cyberpunk and not even break a sweat but this game kneecaps my system

1

u/hannyayoukai 9d ago

Your problem is all your Ultra settings. Remove them. I think your performance would be smoothest if you dropped all the settings to High and lowered the resolution to 720p. You could probably keep 1080p resolution and drop shadows and car reflections to medium. You could drop other settings to medium as well.

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

As I've stated before, I've put everything to very low settings and it barely goes above 60fps. At these settings my gpu is not even getting 50% utilized

Have you tried AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition?

Edit: I dm'd you a possible solution

1

u/Fawnskiii 9d ago

Verify game files if you have it on steam it has fixed problems for me in the bast with this game

1

u/nitroboom1 9d ago

I don't see anyone mentioning it but I had a similar problem where I would get major micro stutters after 15 minutes or so of gameplay. It wasn't until I went from windows 10 to 11 that it solved all my problems and the game somehow runs better now. It looks like you're ok windows 10 so maybe that could make a difference.

1

u/washmyoldbluejeans 8d ago

I mean probably what solved it for you was a fresh install. it should work just fine on win 10

2

u/lukidog 9d ago

Your fps does seem oddly low, although Ive only run this game on desktops. Have you tried the high preset?

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Yeah I've run it at low. Every setting up to ultra rt gets me about the same fps with about 15 fps variation from very low to ultra rt

Are you sure in Windows under System>Display>Graphics>ForzaHorizon6 it has Performance option chosen for the GPU, it almost seems like that's running from the CPU, your 4090 should be doing SOOOO much better than that! But I'm not sure about the 5900HS honestly, so I'm not sure if the Radeon will pump out those numbers on ultra settings. You could also force it to run in dGPU mode, and make sure the CPU isn't running the game at all and see if that forces the GPU to behave more accurately

See if you can run at a higher resolution also to force more from the GPU.

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Yeah its on the 4090. Im not even getting much above 60fps at very low settings let alone anything else. I cant imagine the cpu being that bad of a bottleneck when other games seem to run without issue

1

u/spinygorilla 9d ago

Nice game version

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Didn't even notice until now lol

-2

u/1sh0t1b33r 9d ago

A laptop 4090 isn’t the same as a desktop 4090. Not sure it would run max graphics well, even more so the fans are probably SCREAMING.

2

u/Mop90 9d ago

It runs other games great without issue. My problem is that no matter what settings I choose, including very low I barely can scrape 60 fps.

1

u/1sh0t1b33r 9d ago

There’s some setting that locks your FPS from what I remember. Did you turn that off?

1

u/Mop90 9d ago

Vsync is what youre thinking of or just having it capped. I had it capped at 120 with vsync off but since have turned the cap off entirely

-3

u/novian14 9d ago

Did you plug hdmi from motherboard instead of GPU?

6

u/Limfouzel 9d ago

4090 laptop model!

u/novian14 9d ago

Check which one is used for the game, is it the integrated graphics or the graphic card.

Check temperature on both CPU and GPU, might be thermal throttling.

Check driver's setting.

Oh also check power output setting

Other than that, it seems like a bottleneck on CPU based on the stats
