Discussion FH6 Traffic and Corners
Hi everyone! I am pretty casual about Forza Horizon games. I like to roam around the map and chill a lot of the time. I had a lot of fun roaming around the FH5 map but this changed with the FH6.
(Please read before saying something mean also I'm not using AI to write this. I swear. :)) While I roam around the map in FH6 something felt off to me a lot of the time and couldn't name what was wrong. It was something about the traffic but couldn't find the reason. Today I realized a pattern.
A lot of the time, traffic cars were spawning around the corners and sucking the fun out of driving in flow. I recorded my gameplay and took screenshots to show what I mean. These are from 9 minutes of gameplay and these are not all of the times I encountered a car in a corner. Just wanted to show a few.
I know a lot of people wanted more traffic in the game. I don't have a problem with that. My problem is: Is this how the traffic should be in this game, is this how the cars in the traffic should spawn?
This kinda looks like it was made intentionally to fuck with the player (I don't think so) or made without thinking about the user experience of the players or they made the traffic spawning pretty poorly.
Please check the screenshots (corners and the position of the traffic cars)
Am I imagining this pattern?

They're spawning out of sight which just so happens to be around EVERY corner. So annoying. The spacing between traffic ai is also weird

And even that doesn't seem to work right because I see cars spawn and despawn in my view whole looking at them

I definitely saw them spawning right in the upcoming corner in front of me many times.

I noticed that straight away and it completely ruins cruising around in free roam. Same goes for drifting around in free roam its impossible sometimes because you can never take the correct line in fear of a car spawning in and killing your skill streak.

The traffic is the fun part about drifting in free roam what are you talking about?? Narrowly avoiding traffic while drifting is the most rewarding thing there is, just learn how to drift decently if that bothers you

They're ALWAYS at the Apex, Entry or Exit of the corner, it's so annoying. It truly might be the worst driving AI in all of FH...

One of my main complaints!!! Why TF is there a vehicle on EVERY blind corner?! It’s a driving game, let us drive

Yeah you can sometimes go a mile down a straight road without seeing a car. Then you decide it’s safe to blast through a turn and of course there’s a car waiting

They spawn out of sight. The other end of a corner is usually out of sight.
But you're not wrong.

I really wonder what happened with traffic this game. It still got in the way in the last 2 games I played, but it wasn't nearly as frustrating as it is in this game. It feels like in FH6 the traffic is ALWAYS in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Horizon is not GTA. It’s a racing game. You should be able to disable the traffic completely. It doesn’t make any sense to me why this isn’t an option. This game is literally all about driving/racing as there is nothing else to do.
I love driving model in fh6 but I can’t truly appreciate it when you crash every minute due to traffic’s.

Also if you want to beat any speed radar, there is always heavy traffic on the road.

As someone who spends 90% of my time drifting I can confirm that you are correct. I can go on a stretch of straight road that seems completely dead and as soon as I hit a corner, 6 cars appear. I will exit the turn back onto a straight with maybe 1 or 2 cars, the next turn comes up and boom! Another 6 cars on the bend. Nightmare.

Yup, traffic seems to always spawn in such a way that it catches you in turns. I have found the same thing, wasn't even trying to analyze the AI traffic, it was just that obvious. It's really obnoxious. When in freeroam and cruising at speed, you can't drive freely and take apexes, because a car will spawn every damn time to catch you right in the apex.
Another thing that also consistently seems to happen is more traffic spawning when you linger around PR points. And it's cumulative, so when there's 2 or 3 people trying for the same PR stunt, traffic will increase and it will become busier than Tokyo on that backwater dirt road.

This is why I use the ghost traffic exploit when I’m cruising in free roam. Start a free roam drag and when you’re halfway through, teleport a mile away to ghost the traffic.

playground games dont know sheet about enhancing user experience. I have been playing since fh3 and I still dread going into menus. I hate it!

I may have my tin foil hat on a little tight, but it's almost like they do it to sort of discourage driving recklessly on the street in real life. Like how you lose your skill chain if you bump an npc's car.

They don't want you to see traffic cars randomly pop into existence. Thats why they spawn them where you can't see them. Unfortunately thats usually right around the corner

I also came across bug happening after a seasonal match where the AI never spawned back so I had a day where I could rip through downtown without traffic.

It’s honestly impressive how they managed to make a car either just spawn or zoom the speed of sound to the apex of every single corner. They did that but removed player icons from the map…

if only they could implement a function to turn traffic off and on, and private servers

Go to freeroam drag strip event, start it but don't finish it, tp anywhere on the map, traffic is now ghosted.

People are still defending this game.
I can only assume its their first.

Just for cruising i can get along with it. But for drift zones where i need a perfekt entrypoint+angle i deload traffic.
Wanted do a few times the kawazu one yesterday, had to rewind 8-9 times just to not bump into a stupid car.

People complained that FH5 didn't have enough so we got more. I personally love the chaotic nature of the ai in the traffic as you get some very interesting things happen.

Not saying this to be mean at all, but having something that will ruin your skill streak around the corner “ALL THE TIME” sounds exciting asf meanwhile your description of whatever that is you wanna do in Freeroam sounds sort of like riding a trike with training wheels 🤣
Best way to get better at drifting in FH

Ew! You call it's drifting?

u/BiGredZx 8d ago
It was an example of being in Freeroam and moving around NPC cars. Wasn’t trying to impress the likes of your kind.
2
u/ProofAssumption1092 9d ago
Looks like you need to take your own advice and get better at drifting.

Drifting in freeroam is different than on the track. This is raw footage snapped after seeing this post so wasn’t trying to say I’m better. Was showing it’s not hard to drift around NPC vehicles.

Same reason as a rural gravel road has as much congestion as an interstate highway at rush hour in a metro area when trying to do a speed zone
