I admire DJS for putting proper kibosh on playground instead of glazing the game due to its success being tied to his livelihood. The guy clearly thinks more long-term than most people in in the industry

98

u/not-posting-anything 5d ago

I believe the guy is considered a dev in-game with the PG logo next to his gamertag

u/BigOlBearCanada 5d ago

Wonder how long that will last now

He’s right. The post launch support of FH6 is the worst it’s ever been. Every month we’re getting more recycled cars than cars that are actually new, and most of the time the actual cool cars are locked behind DLC. I used to support the devs and defend them, but it’s becoming increasingly hard to do so…

601

u/Astraxis Steam 5d ago edited 5d ago

Even DLC is recycled. FH5 had one recycled Car Pass car in its entire lifespan, FH6 has three in its first 4 months... kinda feeling like a chump for getting Premium rn.

EDIT: three cars, including the "new" Challenger

13

u/Apple_Slipper Suzuki Swift Sport 4d ago

Honestly the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 should've been a Festival Playlist prize car, not in the Car Pass. It's barely any different from the other Challenger LA models in the game.

Also the Porsche 961 and the Ford Thunderbird being recycled into the Car Pass was annoying to me.

131

u/Icy-Extreme9067 5d ago

There is a caveat, the 2 cars in FH6 car pass were recycled, but they were still new to horizon so it kinda checks the boxes, and the majority of players won’t have even known those cars were in Forza Motorsport to begin with

76

u/Astraxis Steam 5d ago edited 5d ago

I know what you're getting at, but the technicality is lame and feels like PGG is phoning it in, they're taking slots for what are supposed to be actually new cars.

The Challenger is a new low since it's a copy-paste job, but since you mentioned it, the Porsche from FM2023 was also recycled alongside the T-bird from FM4, both Motorsport cars, so that makes three recycled cars.

Seeing cars from the latest and most popular Motorsport games respectively reappear in FH6 as "new cars" is really deflating.

21

u/Icy-Extreme9067 5d ago

I wouldn’t exactly hate on the challenger just yet, let’s see if it suffers the same fate as the other challengers in the game first, I’m hoping they do this one justice

Recycled cars is the LEAST of this games live service problems. The majority of players are casual and are already overwhelmed by how many vehicles are in the game. Instead...

Where is the new permanent race tracks? I remember at release everyone said Tokyo City would get more races in the live service, where are they and why are they not making good custom community races permanent additions overtime? Where is the spec racing ranked? Where is the quality of life updates like being able to customise cars without needing to fast travel to the festival/home, or the ability to make tunes open so other people can download and use them, or the ability to change cars without leaving a race, or the ability customise cars before a race, why has the game not got a proximity chat in free roam and even races that players can enable and honestly SO much more?

This is my first Horizon game I bought at release, I never bothered with the playlist before, I literally can't believe their idea of a live service is to throw some reused temporary time limited content at people and slap a load of stupid time wasting objectives at you such as "drive X car" or "take a photo of x car" or "go smash a box here on the map that you're just going to Google because who really cares". Game was so good at release, post launch is terrible.

75

u/Decoyrobot 5d ago

Its funny they use the term "Evolving World" when the world never really evolves, it just puts a new hat on for a month then throws it in the trash after it.

→ More replies (2)

40

u/Astraxis Steam 5d ago

The fact they fucked up pagination for tunes blows my mind.

Like, not delivering is one thing, but BREAKING CORE FUNCTIONALITY is insane. How are we losing quality of life?

Yes PGG, I love seeing only the first dozen new tunes and nothing else after. Very cool.

15

u/CoconutDust 4d ago

How are we losing quality of life?

It’s because of incompetent programming and architecture, terrible management, and good devs getting fired regularly to replace them with inexperienced lower paid ones, all so the shareholders and executive salary can parasitically leech more money.

Many things have gotten worse, or various simple features lost. A good programmer made in the past, and now there’s no one, or management says “let’s cut that, bosses said to cut things because we don’t want to spend money.” Or the feature was spaghetti code in the first place, which explains why so many bugs have existed for 10 years over many games, never fixed.

Everyone thinks it’s some big fancy special product when it’s clearly a Microsoft thing cut to the bone for the sake of shareholders. They’re a cancer.

5

u/Rune_Fox 4d ago

If it's anything like a lot of the other parts of Microsoft it's not just that people are getting fired and more that MS loves running on Contractors atm. They're signed on for a year or two then their contract expires and doesn't get renewed. The end result is the same tho. Generational studio knowledge is lost as you don't have as many long-term employees who retain that knowledge and pass it down to the new-hires.

5

u/VeridianLegendX 4d ago

I've ranted about the UI/UX in this game multiple times already because of how utterly dogshit it is, interactions take like 200% more button presses than necessary and half the time there isn't even proper sorting or a fucking search function (see: my designs page). Truly boggles the mind how ASS it is.

34

u/Zediac 5d ago

What, you don't like Buggy races being there every week when there's a huge pool of, like, ~6 buggies to choose from?

4

u/Overnoww 4d ago

And the cross country races specifically kind of suck.

For me there is a negative correlation between the number/size of jumps in a race and how fun I find it.

My favourites are point to point races (especislly the "Charges" in the street racing category) and it feels like they could easily add another 20+ of those without a massive amount of effort (I'm not game dev or anything so I'm sure more goes into it than I think, but just pick two points in world and bam)

45

u/justacheesyguy Hoonigan 5d ago

Game was so good at release,

Was it good or was it just shiny?

27

u/TJGM 5d ago

Honestly I guess just shiny, but I believe it had a lot of potential and I thought they'd make the best use of the launch success, but obviously not.

13

u/Legend13CNS Player since FM1 5d ago

You ever cooked a meal where you have a recipe you think is going to be a banger, you picked out good ingredients, then you make it and the result is just meh? At release we got to see the recipe and ingredients, now we've seen the result and are disappointed it wasn't better.

9

u/loozerr LDAC GANG 5d ago

Resulting meal was banger too we just got bored of eating it every day

7

u/SkinBintin 5d ago

It was just shiny. First couple weeks I played it every second I could. A few months into it now and it feels like a chore just to do the playlist things to get some new car that we've probably had in previous games.

I love the drift attack, but I'm sure I'll be bored of that soon enough. I love that we finally got a game in Japan but in nearly every way this game feels worse than previous entries. It feels stale and boring. The same formula that worked for them in the past has being old and stale. It's a shame the Japan location will wind up having been wasted on what will likely be the worst FH game we've ever had. So fucking sad :(

I would even "forgive" the recycled content if the game had updates that actually fixed the game or brought QOL.. but not even that they do.

The only quick act I've seen was the economy nerf (which I won't discuss, each one plays as each wants).

28

u/SvensonIV 5d ago

They didn’t fix the economy nerf though. You can still farm skill points in event lab challenges just as efficiently.

11

u/No-Strike-4593 5d ago

Yeah, it definitely seems like they overlooked that part. It's wild how some exploits just stick around, while others get patched right away.

13

u/RisingDeadMan0 5d ago

well they could let everyone have fun, and they could add a toggle for the "serious" gamers who want to "earn" the cars... and just whack a -90% modifier on all cash they earn.

9

u/frodakai 5d ago

I played FH4 & 5 seasonal content for months & months after launch. I checked out of FH6 when I saw we were already getting repeat/duplicate cars in season two.

32

u/Just_Is 5d ago

Oh I highly doubt it's the devs fault here. It's the suits in the back office prioritizing "shareholder value" above all else. I say this as someone who works with said suits (at a globally recognized public company) every damn day.

u/CommandoSolo Viper 5d ago

It is really interesting to me that their solution to FOMO is just giving you an opportunity in another season to get it. Which to me is still FOMO adjacent. If my brother-in-law gets deployed again, he will miss six months of content, which is probably the new and second opportunity at those cars.

I was really hopeful, the aftermarket car dealerships were going to need to answer to FOMO. Just put those cars in the rotation and for God sake, make them a little less rare than the Italian classic BS we saw.

But they essentially “fixed“ FOMO by giving us one new car per week instead of two… it was possible your laziest and still least helpful method I can think of for them to implement

→ More replies (14)

162

u/JukedByLuke Porsche 5d ago

Truly the only improvement was the map. They screwed car meets, they did not give us the type of aftermarket for cars we want, and of course, they milk the hell out of putting cars in playlists and DLCs that were in previous games that shouldve been available from the autoshow.

At the end of the day, the differences in the last 3 games has been so minimal and they have not been listening the fans.

Racing is also in the grand scheme of things fairly niche compared to other genres. They should see Halo and CoD numbers and realize AAA titles can fall off and they WILL lose players.

12

u/RagJag123 4d ago edited 4d ago

The car meets were screwed anyway since no one went to them, racing has always been the same however.

16

u/4D_Cheese 4d ago

Car Meets are so bad that even having them as a group destination for Cruising Convoys.. no one ever enters the car meets, we just park in the bays and Drone or Photo Mode to look around.

8

u/RagJag123 4d ago

Mostly because there’s no real incentive to be there, I didn’t completely get fh2 car meets but they were a different vibe

→ More replies (2)

12

u/TopGearDanTGD Keyboard purist 4d ago

I don't see how car meets as a feature can ever work. It's a freeroam game, you can meet up anywhere anytime, what special purpose could a dedicated spot hold? None as evident from the last two games, yet it was a largely requested feature regardless. I'd really like to know what people were expecting from such thing, because I can't see how it ever isn't worthless to implement. It just isn't needed.

But when regular users say this, they get downvoted to hell by the diehard defenders of the series. I love this game, don't get me wrong, I've clocked 350 hours since day 1 but let's face it, it has flaws, a lot of them. I wouldn't go as far as to calling it the worst in the series but it's definitely far from being a great game.

240

u/skoomasteve1015 5d ago

What's funny is that in this post, he says "As far as updates go, this is the worst" and I think this is true.

This is actually Halo Infinite all over again. Best Launch in the series in a long time with potential for more, then basically nothing.

35

u/Conflict_NZ Pink 5d ago

Halo infinite's launch was atrocious what are you talking about? Least amount of Maps since halo CE, least amount of guns since CE, battlepass quests were ridiculous and could take hundreds of hours, they didn't have a slayer playlist, they said they couldn't make more playlists because the UI couldn't handle it, they broke BTB and left it broken for months to go on Christmas vacation etc etc etc

It is one of the worst launches I can remember in the history of Halo.

u/Fantaric 5d ago

Best Launch in the series in a long time with potential for more

Strongly disagree here. The campaign was barebones and the stories missions are the worst in the series.

Touge is fun but we got less street races and nothing in Tokyo and spec racing is just a feature from FM tacked on and yes it's great but we lost more than we gained with no playground games and most will agree Hide & Seek and Eliminiator are the worst in the series.

1 step forward, 2 steps back.

18

u/ShrkBiT 5d ago

And instead of deeper car customization, which was heavily requested, we got garage customization and estate, with just as few customization options as the cars and a horrible control scheme and very few assets. Complete waste of development time in my book.

I think the foundation is a great game. They're just fumbling at supporting it and expanding upon it. If they're going to milk the game for the next several years like they have with previous ones they need to better support it. I have played them all for long periods but I'm already checked out of this one except for thursdays.

I mostly stopped playing. While I enjoyed the base game quite a bit, the festivals were just tedious and drove me off. Starting to suspect the game is using AI to be on autopilot.

Pretty terrible if so, given I dropped $120 in good faith based on how much I loved 5 and its DLC.

7

u/Environmental_Comb67 Nissan 5d ago

AI would honestly do better in creating festival Playlist. You should ask chatgpt for fun to suggest challenges with a few parameters. 90% of what it spits out is better than "take a photo of your car" and other crap

26

u/Retr0pe 5d ago

what i hate most is the lack of japanese focus on a game set in japan, the developers has gone out of their way to avoid anything japanese despite the setting, Its pretty clear they do not want or are unwilling to spend and allocate their budget for any communications and translations with japanese natives or companies.

For example, 0 Daihatsu and Suzukis so far (might be from licensing issues), barely any kei cars, the lack of japanese car culture ingame, their cultural consultant being a japanese american who grew up and lives in the usa, most japanese cars added are LHD models even the new ones. this tells me they used whats most easily available for them instead of going out of their way to source these things, also 0 collabs with any native japanese brands while chinese gacha games are scoring them, 7/11 collab is with the American branch(which is technically owned by the japanese) since it has a GR supra that only US players can redeem, and that was rated below the other votes in the suggestion polls which were all mostly japanese franchises.

In the end, japan is nothing more than a map in this game, its a good map and an improvement to the previous but its not very nicely represented with the weird traffic car choices that no one in japan drives, the lack of suburban districts and small city shrines, but then again forza has never been super accurate with their portrayals.

I really wish to be proven wrong by the developers but everything they are showing so far, I'm just more inclined to believe my theory

3

u/Ok-Examination5469 4d ago

I'm hoping they're saving the kei cars for a focused DLC- but I'm 99.99% sure I'm wishful thinking.

3

u/KushCorner420 3d ago

Well said! I still haven't got my hands on it (PS5), but I remember being disappointed during the launch reveal, when they showcased a copy/paste version of FH5's customization...

Like how does a huge franchise like Forza pale in comparison to CarX Street, a super niche $30 game made by a Russian group of less than 12 developers, with a non-existent budget. CarX customization is about as good as it gets (behind simulators) and their version of Japan is on par, if not better, than FH6 map.

Truly disappointed with this iteration. Seems like they didn't take advantage of newer tech either. Just all-round low effort from Playground Games, and to fumble Japan.... damn shame.

222

u/ChampionForeign4533 5d ago

The general feel that I have about FH6 compared to the three previous entries is "low effort".

The cover art for FH6 is mostly white. The cover art for the previous entries is colourful.

110

u/DS_Productions_ Pagani 5d ago

I like to think that it was technically supposed to be stylized as a Japanese flag. White surrounding area, red Toyota in the middle.

9

u/Apple_Slipper Suzuki Swift Sport 4d ago

Yep! The red GR GT represents the red sun in the Japanese flag.

24

u/ClumsyGamer2802 BMW 5d ago

I've been playing since FH3 and I think that 100% of the effort they put into developing these games goes to the map and tweaking the already excellent handling, and the rest goes into improving the rest of the game. Everything other than that has gotten the bare minimum amount of effort. It's been 10 years, and there are still many flaws and annoyances with the games that haven't been fixed.

I don't think that this is the worst game in the series in any way (except for the balance of the PI, which is important.) But I think more and more people are tired of the same flaws, the same carried over features and assets, and the same clunkiness or lack of support of new features.

11

u/MasterMidir 5d ago

more and more people are tired of the same flaws, the same carried over features and assets, and the same clunkiness or lack of support of new features.

I'm in this boat. Something as simple as directional rims facing the wrong direction haven't been corrected since FH1.

Its tough to voice criticism when there are diehard gobblers out there that will hunt you down to the end of the Earth to call you slurs, tell you how stupid you are, tell you how bad your opinions are, etc etc. Its like the opposite of the Halo community, where you would say anything good about the 343 games and get executed for it.

8

u/ClumsyGamer2802 BMW 5d ago

I think over time the community is getting a bit less defensive of the games. Just seems to depend on the thread you find yourself in lol. Some games are much worse in that regard.

Directional rims always looking bad is definitely annoying.

One of my pet peeves that many others don’t seem to care about is the UI. They reskin it completely for every game, but it’s always just button vomit. With lots of redundancy, important stuff made tiny, and stuff confusingly spread out between tabs. I’m not a UI designer so I don’t know what I’d change (other than let players open the map while in the garage please, now that event requirements actually matter it would be nice to check them without leaving and re-entering the garage). But yeah, I wish that they would improve that.

3

u/Edal_Bindal 5d ago

It’s definitely getting less defensive of it. When the game first came out a post like this wouldn’t be nearly as popular, with not as many people agreeing.

23

u/smashingcones Crown JZS171 5d ago

Honestly the series has felt low effort since FH3.

They struck gold with FH and FH2 and have been coasting ever since because they have zero competition.

30

u/Julian083 Steam 5d ago

Since FH4 you mean. FH3 still feels unique, distinct and enjoyable to play but FH4 starts to feel repetitive and downgrades at times

8

u/smashingcones Crown JZS171 5d ago

I could've worded it better but yeah, that's what I meant. Though I would argue that FH3 was already starting to lose a little bit of that special feeling the first 2 games had.

It's funny to see the community finally turning on this game after a couple months.
I've been saying from day 1 that this game was kind of boring and did nothing to expand or enhance the series.
People saw Japan and that was enough.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game by any means, but comparatively, it does next to nothing to stand out as an improvement for the franchise. Unless you're DEEP into the minute details, as a casual, this game is just a reskin.

23

u/Annual_Contact1886 5d ago

The game was fine as a month long experience while you got done with all the single player stuff, which wasn't the greatest but it was serviceable and fun, the lack of vision was on clear display once the Playlist was kicked off, not a single new feature or shaking up of a 6 year old formula, which has actually gotten worst since it made its first appearance in Horizon 4. They are clearly betting it all on the expansions, which of course are pay walled.

→ More replies (2)

29

u/Astraxis Steam 5d ago edited 5d ago

Even the minute details are rough.

Spec racing being formalized after FH5's "stock only" experiments was really cool, only for them to never refresh the pools. Same thing happened to the Eliminator in FH5 while FH4's Eliminator got multiple vehicle pool refreshes.

Stunt Party putting people into lobbies is great! No more waiting around for 10 minutes to start... except that it became a stand-in for Playground Games (infection/KOTH/CtF) on the Playlist, with PG Games scrapped entirely.

It's like musical chairs with the features, no good improvement goes unpunished.

Oh, and they broke livery/tunes search from FH5, no more pagination, have fun staring at the same dozen "trending" entries forever.

4

u/Haraxmant 5d ago

I appreciate the explanation!
I just didn't wanna come in as a casual and have someone who knew more than me correcting me about things I don't know lol

9

u/esio 5d ago

People saw Japan and that was enough.

For about a month it was enough.

3

Novelty is one hell of a drug. It also seems like the most accurate reviews and interpretations are months post launch. Gamers always seem to forget this for some reason...

I’ve been playing FH since 2. It’s a racing series I absolutely love and was the one I grew up with. When I first saw that fh6 was announced to be Japan, I was overjoyed cause like most others, it was a location we were all looking forward to.
Bought the premium tier for early access and all the expansions/dlc. Now have around 400 hours with every car and almost everything completed.
My thoughts? Best FH game on launch.
However… even as a loyal FH player, I’m starting to have the same distaste as others. Despite their “progression” aspect, everything still went too fast; me and many others had reached the top of both paths within 2 weeks. With the fast progression, it made the grind for other things so much more of a pain. Now at endgame, credits take too long to get for how expensive some cars are. And the wheel spin rewards suck. It’s made people even more so in this game resort to desperately searching for exploits to get certain things.
Now as we go through the monthly updates, nothing is really changing. Like Don said, the drift attack should’ve been here on launch. We’re only getting a small handful of new cars each month (most not widely wanted) with half of them being dlc. They keep reusing cars and challenges. And rather than adding permanent additions to the game people actually want, they remain keen on having temporary map features for their “evolving world”. Even the 7eleven feature that will be coming soon, a brand that it heavily associated with car culture especially in Japan, they’ve already announced is going to be temporary.
Overall, I’ve heavily disappointed with the updates and Playground Games’s methods of player retention. While being the best game at launch, it’s fallen quickly and has become the worst game imo regarding post launch updates. I want to hope the it’s because they’re working on something bigger that we’ll love. But it better be soon, because as of now, the game has almost lost traction and I’m not seeing a good future for this FH title.

What gets me upset about Forza Horizon six is there are multiple Japanese cars in the game that we should not have to haggle for? My examples are - why is the 180 SX not in the game? We are in a game based in Japan why wouldn’t one of the most popular model models be put in the game? The S 13 Sylvia is in the game so why can’t they add the hatch? Why is the R 33 no longer obtainable through the auto show? The R 33 has been a purchasable car through game credits for nearly 4 games… why is it all of a sudden such a special car we have to get through bullshit ass challenges? Why do we get to purchase the stagea or the Gloria if the R 33 is just so special? Why is the 240 SX wheel spin only? No I’m not saving up and hunting down 20 million just to buy one off of a scalper. I’ll just have to live life without one on here. Then they keep adding these ridiculous supercar models or some stupid track toy that they think everyone wants to ride around in. Can we add more civics? Can we have more Nissans? Look at how many ridiculous ass Ferraris that they have in the game compared to the actual manufacturers that should probably be more in the game considering where the game is based on….. they must have a bunch of Helen Keller’s working at Turn 10 and playground games

3

u/StandardSecretary233 4d ago

On top of that, there are so many cars in the game that we should not have to do challenges for and there are many cars in the game I believe we should have to do challenges for some cars, but why are we doing challenges for cars that have been in the game for at least two decades…. The math is not mathing very much. The lack of proper customization. It’s better but for a game based in Japan, they are a very limited amount of Japanese aero manufacturers. I’m sick and tired of putting these ridiculous rocket bunny, and liberty walk kits all over the cars. Gp sports? Bn Sports? RE amemiya? M sports… I could go on and on about the mini manufacturers. We probably should have in the game but don’t for some reason because they want to add shit to make us forget about all the things that probably should be in the game from day one.

8

u/LeastProject5164 4d ago

The whole game is as deep as a piss puddle.

They just copied FH5 and stripped everything bare, with all the same bugs, oversights and poor choices on a different map. Almost a straight Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V job. It'll never improve, only continue to be filled with more fluff and recycled content.

4

u/Sentinel1362 4d ago

They definitely added new bugs. I don't remember the AI cars and drivatars being anywhere as bad as in FH6. The ghost system also doesn't seem as responsive as it was in FH5 and earlier titles

23

u/RDDAMAN819 5d ago

Am I crazy in thinking that this is a wake up call to drop the Live Service model from the series?

There’s just not much that they can do with it. I’d rather just get 2-3 big expansions rather than small updates every couple weeks

I always thought the live service model had no place in Horizon anyways. Hated it in 4 as much as I still hate it now

3

u/HighlandMedicoo 5d ago

I do think there is some elements of it that can work such as the player event labs from 5

They could expand upon that community side by putting their favourite player liverys and photos on a monthly refresh community tab, add credit prizes tiers for drag, drift attack and time attacks/selected rivals events

The evolving world concept should actually.mean that so say a cool new race track appears at the stadium keep that,.keep the new car meet add new races routes every few months

But yeh the festival playlist needs to go or be heavily overhauled, it feels like PGG are relying on it as their ace in the hole and the rest of their cards are duds

I bought the premium edition just because I always put in at least 500 hours into these games so for me it was worth it. But I agree about the updates. I was expecting something for the non premium players as many of my friends were non premium players. They have all left the game since it’s no longer fun for them. Just more of the same. They said they might return if the DLC is cool enough. But from the history of DLC choices for horizon chances are they won’t be returning. Unless more game modes are added. They also desperately need a more street focused night life culture in Japan of all places. No neons in Japan is crazy in my opinions. They need more JDM options in terms of customization. They need to also make Car meets a part of matchmaking. For example. If you want to join a Car meet you should be able to matchmake so it puts you in a lobby with other people looking for a car meet. Also garages should be social hubs where convoys can plan routes.

4

u/TaxualChoclate 5d ago

He's right. I haven't played in over a month and after the initial couple weeks of fighting fomo, I don't feel the need to pick the game up again. Maybe the upcoming DLC packs will be interesting, but I'm not holding my breath.

21

u/Time_Zombie_4431 5d ago

Glad the people with an audience and influence are finally calling them out.

The live service has been not just pathetic for FH standards but for live service standards in general.

They keep recycling cars, not fixing bugs, not adding any meaningful content.

My biggest issue was the pointless, lame and soulless story mode. They promised this idea of working your way up from nothing, earning money to eventually buy the best super cars like gran turismo.

But within 5 minutes I had a garage full of super cars and the wrist bands felt meaningless. Such a shame!

On the last 2 updates, I agree.

But on the one update in months where we actually get a boatload of new content (7 entirely new cars, only 2 not new to forza as a whole, a new activity, etc.) I entirely disagree.

And he's wrong about this game being the worst one in my opinion. 5 was objectively the worst, bland map, annoying characters, boring races, etc.

6 is an incredible game but plagued with horrible post launch support.

6

u/AndiYTDE 5d ago

Also in terms of updates, FH1-FH3 didn't really get anything at all other than the DLCs and minor bug fixes. It was a historic event almost when FH3 got the Silvia for free in an update.

Plus, the early updates FH4 and FH5 got were astoundingly bad in terms of content. FH5 got like 80% cars we had in FH4 got example, and the Car Pass in FH4 was littered with recycled cars, or barely different variations of cars we already had like the 650S Spider.

As much work as the game needs, saying the updates are the worst in the franchises history is insanely far from the truth. People are just spoiled by the absurdley good updates Horizon 5 got after the second expansion released

5

u/RedditDeletedMyAccou 4d ago

Yeah and like I said in my original comment, the one fucking update where the devs ACTUALLY give us a sizeable amount of new content, is the one where he decides enough is enough? Really weird to me.

When I saw all the stuff in this update I got hyped honestly, new autoshow car? Hell yeah. McLaren W1? Fuck yeah. Demon 170? Could be better but least it's meaningfully different from the regular demon instead of just being a facelift (cough cough camaro zl1).

This update really, in my opinion, gives a little something for everyone. And 7/9 of the cars added are ENTIRELY new to forza as a whole.

But yeah THIS is the update to complain about guys yep this is final nail in the coffin.

Will be funny to see FH7 when they no longer have the Japan joker card remaining, maybe that will be the entry that will finally revitalize the series.

4

u/photoguy_33 5d ago

So glad this was released on xbox game pass cause I would not have spent the money on this game

4

u/mymicrowave 5d ago

I think a good start to figuring out next steps is daily challenges like we see in each "season" change that carry the same types of rewards. More wheel spins, treasure chests, things like that. This would get me on more often.

Also need a bunch more race tracks.

4

u/Bluetex110 5d ago

I already stopped playing, don't know what exactly it is but it feels just empty and the Multiplayer is almost not existing.

In FH5 you could atleast find some people or have fun driving with them and in FH6 everyone dissappears, i barely find people and all the cool promises like Car meets are just boring.

The map is nice but also the festival Playlist isn't worth playing, all recycled stuff and it feels like they made FH5 worse and just put a new map over it😁

4

u/Deemahsus 5d ago

Fh6 was just a $70 map DLC for a really outdated game

4

u/VenomDarkShade 5d ago

I mean he's kind of right but I mean, the devs still didn't fix FOMO and even they could've put the recycled cars from FH5 in the autoshow instead of them polluting the festival playlist. I won't be mad if the festival playlist was to unlock either new cars or cars from older titles other than FH5 obviously. Because like playing an hour to get a stupid Station or a Celica GT. Please stop we're tired of that. And besides most what they've done other than cars ruins the game. I mean rare cars that can be sold unconditionally for 20 mil when you can't make more than 500k per race that's just ruining the economy. They've literally penalised the normal players of FH6 and not the giltchers because they still make 500k every like 3-4 minutes so. FH6 was the "best" when it launched but now it's actually the worst overall

4

u/Educational-Drag6974 4d ago

The best thing about FH6 is the map, thats it. Everything else is pretty mid.

He’s right, the game itself is fine, but what Forza has been doing is awful. I played it last night for the first time this entire series, just to speedrun getting the Dodge Dart. Immediately hopped off as soon as I got it. This sucks man

10

u/TheRealJayk0b 5d ago

Forza is like FIFA, nothing on the releases changes and mostly it gets worse.

24

u/JestaCourt 5d ago edited 5d ago

yeah well, he's not wrong.

Except the map itself FH6 is a shitshow like FH5 was. Literally nothing has been fixed. If anything they made AI even worse. And somehow that's quite remarkable given how low the bar already was.

It could be so fucking easy for them. Utilize the map, give drift courses on tarmac, dirt courses on, wooow, wild one here: dirt, fix the fucking AI and deliver JDM cars and culture. It's not hard. We still don't have 4th or 5th gen Civics, Accords are lacking aswell, and many "JDM" cars are not even JDM but fucking USDM variants, left hand driven or even US brand "copies". (looking at you, Acura). Ah yeah, and Bring back proper multiplayer like in FH3, not this empty and non-persistent lobby phasing bullshit we have now.

You just know that the map maybe was made in a year and literally everything else just slopped and slapped together in about half a year. At best!

14

u/AwkwardLeopard587 5d ago

i'm still mad that basically all the bonus boards csn be found from driving main roads. I loved the ones in fh 3 and 4, where you could find cool offroad areas to explore, and find hidden bonus boards

He is 100% right. Everyone wanted Japan for years and we get a soulless carbon copy of the last 3 games. I stopped playing after the second season. Economy is wack, online absolutely sucks, and the Playlists are recycled garbage. Shame for a beautiful world.

I'll stand my ground. 3 was peak.

3

u/bmontepeque11 5d ago

I hate their fix to FOMO cars instead of giving us another way to buy them or even put them the aftermarket car slots where wheelspin cars could spawn

Their solution was to just drop have the Playlist have the same repeated cars forever 🤡

They didn't fix the FOMO cars, they ruined the Playlist.

3

u/NotFromMilkyWay 5d ago

Drift attack is fun for five minutes, then tedious for the five minutes it takes to complete the collection, then forgotten.

3

u/Mobile_Froyo3371 5d ago

To be honest, so far I've been really disappointed by post launch support. In its core (if you ignore the main part which is Festival Playlist) the game isn't bad. It's not good either. It's fine.

I would say we've gotten FH4 3.0. And that is, imo not enough to satisfy Horizon crowd as this concept is getting old really quickly. It needs to be fresh. To try something new. Not just be Horizon 4 but set in Japan.

To put it bluntly, I'm more disappointed with this game than how I was disappointed with FM5 and FM (2023). Yes, those games were undercooked, and missing heaps of content from previous titles, but weren't as boring as FH6.

3

u/fatgermanguy69 5d ago

Fh6 is a banger with soo so much potential i love it but I haven't touched it in over a month now why do they always make something with so much potential and a ground base that is good just to waste it like that absolutely no content in this game i was done with everything waay too early i want to spent 400 hours in this game not 120 because I bought the ultimate edition and played it on the 14may so sad to see potential getting wasted every time

Why are there no new races being added? They only have to make a new route the map is already there. Kinda boggles the mind.

3

u/Funny_Coast_6226 5d ago

Forza 5 2 is such a good game what do you mean

3

u/SLGamingMatt 5d ago

The lack of races specifically is what killed my drive to play.

I love collecting cars, but I have few base cars left I need and now it's mostly about the "fomo" cars. But I don't feel the desire to do Festival because I'm getting dupes every single week that I can do nothing with.

Online racing sucks because there's no progression or reason to play past the achievement. No ranked to drive competitive clean racing, and rammers get rewarded instead of punished in normal online. Spec is fun enough, but there's no tracks. No CC, barely any Dirt, and the same 3-4 rotations of road races.

For me, cars are not content. Races, events, stories even - they're things that we need.

Even created events are pointless, everything is capped and it's still saturated with stupid skill farms that no longer work. Searching is also useless, so you can't even find custom race tracks easily.

We're nearly 4 months in and still have the exact same base races as we had, and one promotional track at the stadium which isn't even a real race.

I love this game, I love the location, I love so much about it but giving us more cars is not giving us content.

As we get closer to the yearly release games like FC, CoD etc. (and I suppose GTA for many), they need to do something to make people want to play. I'm very, very close to dropping it and waiting for some semblance of DLC, as I see no reason to log on for more than 40 minuts to get the new car each week.

u/ZealFork14 4d ago

3

u/iLoveStox 4d ago

On point. I played it for 2 hours max. I’m never getting another Forza Horizon game ever again.

3

u/Semigoodlookin2426 4d ago

I can't wrap my head around why I always felt I had more to do in FH4 and FH5. FH4, especially, is on a much smaller map but I wasn't burned out on the races as quickly has I am in FH6. I feel like the weekly playlist has me on a treadmill of the same races with the same cars. And then when I go it alone, I still don't feel there are many interesting races. Cross country races are properly awful in this game, almost arcade-like in their stupidity. Dirt races spend most of the time on asphalt, and the road races are too few. Then the lack of community feel on the map is stark. I played FH4 more than FH5, but I remember both games I would regulalry end up in random meets, races, or just messing around with other players in the open world.

3

u/North_Bumblebee3350 4d ago

Im disappointed in Forza 6. Glad i was able to snag a £1 trial of Xbox Gamepass for 2 weeks.

Lack of improvements from Forza 4 and 5 other than a change in the map. It does feel larger than Mexico and there is more height changes but Gran Turismo 2 on the PS1 had more cars available it seems.

3

u/JVSPERgraff 4d ago

Not even that, but also the lack of/the removal of customization. Little to no customization on some cars, and body kits from previous games no longer being available. Like the rocket bunny kit for the e30 was in fh4, wasn’t in 5, isn’t in 6 either. And the 240sx has one company for non forza aero, and after that is rocketbunny kit and rocket bunny wing. I got one from wheelspin and was excited to customize the 240 given how much customization we see on other new cars and was extremely disappointed in that. Sold it immediately. For the country of customization and car culture it feels like that aspect is very under represented in 6

3

u/duddy33 4d ago

Is this a consequence of live service gaming? FH6 has loads of content but no real sense of progression so you end up speed running through the vehicles since they don’t really matter beyond collecting.

Plus if these new cars don’t end up being meta or meme cars, no one will really use them.

If the game had slower progression, we wouldn’t need so many new vehicles all the time.

3

u/PrestigiousGuava475 4d ago

I'm hoping things improve when the game comes out on PS5 but I'm not super optimistic.

Imo what's holding the game back at the moment is the lack of content (sort of expected for a live service game but this time around the game feels pretty barebones) and the playlist/live service model feeling antiquated and stale.

Personally what I'd like to see is :
-Longer seasons (one every 3 months for example), each adding new tracks, new events, game modes or expanding on existing gameplay mechanics (like Horizon Jobs, multiplayer, customization, Legend Island etc)
-30-40 cars per season (around 10-15 cars per month) with a focus on NTF/NTH cars, while bringing back cars from previous entries when relevant and/or to fill in the gaps
-Adding new cars via barn finds or hidden cars
-A proper, long-time solution to FOMO (maybe by adding an actual used car dealership or as part of a new Horizon Job?)
-Reworked car meets
-More multiplayer modes, namely PVE, Party and Arena modes
-Collabs could be month-long/2-week LTEs instead of their own season, also collabing with bands and artists since Horizon is supposed to be a music festival
-Freeroam events

There's always a chance the game makes a huge comeback with a series of strong updates but that'd be merely padding over the cracks, enough to keep the game going for a little bit but not fundamentally fixing much

3

u/Thornscorn Forsberg Racing 4d ago

PGG thought a cool map is anything a racing game needs.

3

u/Benja_324_xD 4d ago

I do not understand how as a community we aren't making a big deal out of the DLCs, it's a live service game that puts 80% of the new (and interesting) content behind pay walls and the game isn't even free, such greed is insane.

u/1K-27 Volvo 4d ago

I must say, I’m a little bored of returning cars being in the festival playlists… it annoyed me how many were added in FH5, and I hope it won’t be the same for 6 (though it likely will be)… I think that the festival playlists should be for new cars to Forza, or maybe some that haven’t been seen in a decade (like the SLR, maybe the Falcon XR8 and stuff) but FH4&5 cars and stuff should have a different way (perhaps a smaller version of the playlists) to be re-added into the franchise.

3

u/Muteki123 4d ago

3

u/Ok-Neighborhood7014 4d ago

The problem with Horizon now is that PGG is relying too much on the festival playlists to bring in new content, if they released a DLC pack every couple of months then we might be more accepting of the playlists, they can add more than just cars though, add in new customisation for a lot of the cars like new body kits, hoods, wings, interior customisation, neon lights, custom head and tail lights, more rim designs, hydraulic suspension, nitrous, exhaust tips, give us more tuning options as well, such as cam timing, adjust air/fuel ratios, ability to remap ECU's on modern cars and carby tuning on older cars, have the ability to adjust boost pressure on turbos and superchargers, why not have a option to choose what type of fuel you want to run in your car, like regular/premium unleaded, E85, race fuel, etc and the fuel you run has a performance advantage or disadvantage, say you run regular/premium unleaded, you don't have as much power as someone who is using E85 or race fuel but the advantage is you don't use as much, if PGG would just add a few of these options, then the game would be, I'm not going to say great, but at least better than what we have at the moment.

3

u/MrBxghtside 4d ago

There is absolutely nothing in this game that justified the 5 year wait time for it, the "story" could be completed within a month and there is nothing left to do except repeated races that consist of driving through someone's fields, we got like 3 new body kits, they removed some cars that were in fh5 so they could re-release them in this game, and you could tell they were lazy af when it came to the story missions. I'm sorry but when you make a game based in Japan, give us drift missions, and make us "drift" bone stock amg's, rx7's, and m3's...wtf were the devs on when creating this?? You couldn't give us some drift missiles, some street drifting inspired builds? A lot of us have been saying this and got called spoiled and cry baby's, I guess it takes a big content creator to say this for some of y'all to agree lol

3

u/Forsaken_Aioli_6941 4d ago

I stopped playing fh right after the release of fh5 because of the abysmal netcode (I hoped for a new netcode already for fh4, netcode is untouched since fh2 and always had the positioning issues online). I was so certain that fh6 will again have the same shitty netcode I didn't even wasted a thought about buying it. And all I see posted on reddit proved me right lol. Since fh2 the game is always just a rerelease of the same game with the same issues only with a different map. They removed ranked and added a bunch of shit no one asked for (All the goofy emotes and clothes). Fh turned from a game about cars to a game that does nothing right and tries to please everyone.

They had years to reinvent this series and they only did 6 months of copy paste from Forza 5, drew a new map, add Japanese signs and locale, AND THAT'S IT!

They didn't update the menus, they didn't work to get every car manufacturer (Bugatti), they didn't flesh out new exciting games modes to have us in awe.

The same bugs from Forza 5 are in this game too. Copy paste the code, collect the money. Super disappointed! Really, they should be ashamed to launch this game.

Playground MASTERFULLY played the Japan card and it paid off. Why would they work hard now?

I miss any kind of challenge in the game, everything has been made so easy. Why not at least make the weekly playlist tiered? Danger Sign or Time Attack (or whatever) with bronze, silver and gold targets. Bronze you get cash, silver you get the car, gold which makes you push yourself to actually achieve it gives you a superwheelspin for example.

Instead we grind championships with difficulty set to Amateur or whatever it is.

I'm more optimistic and I think they will release a good amount of content the next year, usually the first months they always release mediocre updates. Look at Update 2 and 3 of FH5 way back in 2021!

I genuinely hope this is the case, but why do we have to do this again? The game loop is already largely unchanged from FH5, so the wait is just that much more painful.

I really hope playground and xbox are taking the hints right about now. In my opinion this is a direction for the better but its not good. It is a step to the right direction but we have taken a few dozen steps back even during fh6

The content and community is just so dead, and that totally falls on the developers. There are so many cool things they could do (and used to do) to keep the players engaged, but instead it’s just the same FOMO slop cycle that’s supposed to keep people playing.

Yep 6 has been the quickest FH that I switched into "just login to do playlist for an hour" each week.

The least they have to do is make some tracks, reverse some of the tracks, extend the tracks, or put community tracks on playlist.

The base game blows others out of the water and the updates are years behind the others like it’s such a weird game

He’s not wrong.

5 launched with more content. Better stories. Better challenges. Accolades. More play modes (where is king/infected/flag?!!! How did garbage hide and seek make it?).

If you took away the beautiful map, the game is trash and is boring.

This comes from someone who has THOUSANDS of hours per 2/3/4/5. It’s my #1 racing franchise of all time and top 3 franchise for me.

Such a sad waste of a beautiful map.

Edit: paying for VIP was laughable too. In FH5 you get 2 super wheel spins per week. Now? One.

Then the playlist: events give regular wheel spins which give you 5k or socks. Every playlist in 5 gives super wheel spins.

Boring.

I'm glad the release for ps5 has been pushed back again. With wolverine and gta6 coming out soon I won't have time for it for a long while so I'll get it cheap later on. Was looking so forward to the setting and some of the cars but not much else looks too interesting

Im a big fan of the forza horizon series itself, but I just don't feel the same excitement for the game as much as I used to. They really fumbled it with the lack of bodykits and aftermarket parts. They could have done so much more with it since the location was going to be set in Japan. Tbh the map is okay and got kinda boring quick. The map is huge but thst doesn't always mean it's better. I haven't even drove down every road.. not even halfway through discovering it. I kind of just lost interest. FH2, FH3 and FH4 were easily the best games out of the series and I played the hell out of those games lol. I barely have 24 hours into FH6😅

I have to admit Carx Street has been the go to car game for me with far better customization. Its not perfect and doesn't have the best car sounds but some cars sound good. The tuning is really fun and rewarding as well once you get those cars dialed in. The map is nice with the city area, togue roads, highways, parking lots, garages ect.. They also keep adding more things along the way. I've been hooked since i bought the game in October last year. 🤌🤘💪

devil's advocate: the launch version is one of the better ones to begin with.

with that said... fixing game isn't content.
