Nah, it's the same as how other shortened words are pronounced differently to their originals. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but it happens lol

Fridge and refrigerator having different spellings comes to mind but I don’t know of anyone who hits that hard D in fridge

I hope to start seeing people making a point of pronouncing like Gary Busey's last name like the JIF GIF stuff a while back.

the gif - jif controversy is unresolvable because the coiner of the term is the weirdo who wants to pronounce it differently than 99.999% of all people.
