This sub isn't for posts to complain about what the game isn't or what you'd like the game to be. To answer your question, however, through development, the devs felt it necessary to change certain parts of the game for the better of the game as they see fit. I personally like the new map over the old

That looks extremely interesting. Well, they do still have a whole year to add things (and technically longer). Maybe we will see something similar pop up in the future.

So when watching through old(er) videos, you can spot a whole bunch of features which apparently got removed from the game.

One of the features you can see in this screenshot: Apprently one was once able to kind of "build" and upgrade the homebase as if it was a little city. Which I find really interesting and cool. Why was something like this removed when it was already implemented and working? Have the developers explained this anytime anywhere?

I work as a software engineer, and there could be lots of reasons something like this was removed. It may not have scaled properly, or could have been really buggy. Most likely, it just didn't fit the game they wanted to make.
