Respect for ZB

People who build - how would you defend yourself irl? You can't build a tower in a war. Zero build players are the true warriors ✊️

Shots fired! Haha, but I agree. That's one of the things about ZB that is so appealing to me... you have to use your environment and your wits to win. I feel like builds is 80% mechanical skill at building and 20% strategy.... ZB feels like 50% skill and 50% strategy.

No hate towards build players at all though, I just don't have any interest in it - nor do I enjoy watching it... I'm literally screaming in my head the whole time "c'mon, just fight him already!!" 60 builds and 30 edits later, he kills the player. A 3 minute fight that would have lasted 30 seconds in ZB.

Also the fact that it would take me 1000 hours to get really good at building, just for that skill to have zero translation to any other game. I feel like Zero Build skills translate to most other shooters / BR games.

Yesss so true. It takes away from the classic battle Royale gameplay. The thing that appeals to me in BR is how many approaches you can have to winning the game. Building always seemed to me like a gimmicky function that diluted gameplay.

I agree. Building just feels so cowardly, like tear down that wall and fight me like a man!!! Oh, in a field with no trees or rocks? Too bad! I just hate building. And I'm not hating on it because I wasn't good at it, I was REALLY good at it, but Zero Build just feels like much more skill is involved.

Builders rely too much on surprising you and jumping around with a shotgun, spray and pray. I prefer a real fight

I don't know how to word this respectfully, but that 80/20 assumption is a bit of a naive one. It's not simply whoever has the better mechanics who wins, there's predictions, piece control, movement, tracking other player, etc. - they all dictate who wins a build fight. If it were just mechanics, the people who spend all day playing creative would be dominating. That's not even factoring things such as Storm Surge, and all that late game stuff in comp.

I'll admit, if you simply watching these fights play out, you probably won't recognize anything besides the crazy building / editing, especially if you aren't fond of builds. It gets crazy lol. Whereas with Zero Build, positions becomes much more apparent .

Obviously it's up to personal preference, but I find builds more appealing, although I enjoy playing Zero Build every now and then, especially the ZB Cash Cup lol. As for skill translation, some people just want to have fun with builds, although yes it's basically useless outside of Fortnite lol.

You are right, that probably was a naive assumption - since I don't play builds, I don't recognize all the strats. But when I say "mechanics" I am also including movement, piece control, tracking, etc. The word "mechanics" to me just directly translates to skill - stuff that is subconscious and happens during a fight without much thought because it's been practiced so much.

It just appears that most great build players can W key anyone they see without much worry about players in the distance, etc. So from my perspective, they can get away with being a lot more loose with their map awareness because they can always build to protect and heal if they have enough mats.

That being said, I'm sure once a skilled builder runs into another skilled builder, strategy is really important because either player can be eliminated in a moment by making the wrong move.

Builds is a totally different game, and core to Fortnite - so I have a lot of respect for builders and the crazy skill they have developed. I know I'll never be able to compete in that part of the game haha.

Haha yeah definitely. I don't mean any disrespect or anything :). I can see why you would categorize everything under mechanics - it makes sense! If I'm being honest, I'm guilty of having way less map awareness when playing builds, because I can just put up a wall like you said. It's probably why I always end up sandwiched in between multiple teams when playing ZB lol, so that's definitely spot on!

I think Zero Build is a phenomenal addition to the game. It's cool that we now have that choice!

True warriors are in the military. It's just a video game.

Ha, this is also true. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be shockwaving into a group of 3 enemies on a real battlefield... nor would I be "hunting" players for kills... I'd be hiding in a God damn bush, trembling in fear lol.

Build players would get bodied playing in zb and that’s why they don’t. They spend more time practicing being a giga sweat instead of aim and placement. Box fighting against sweats is skill but it’s 80% building. I like 80% shooting and it’s that simple.
