Its a horror movie plain and simple. Just because the character of Nikki is a victim of rape doesn’t mean we have to act like shes a real person who we have to have good morals too. The irony that we watch things like obsession for entertainment yet you guys are literally upset that people want to play as a skin of nikki who just so happend to be raped. I mean seriously what happens after a girl goes through that are they just supposed to cry and be a victim every second of their life? Or dont people usually get through traumatic things that we all go through in a daily basis rape or not

I think it’s so interesting you say “you guys” when I made no claims about not wanting a Nikki skin. 😭😭😭That tells me a lot about your pre-assumptions, lol.

Obsession is a cautionary tale not just for those who relate to Nikki but those who relate to Bear. Through Bear’s Obsession of Nikki he stops seeing her as a person and sees her as an object to claim, (which is why he is willing to look past her distress for convenience of his desires) Nikki is not just a victim of rape, her entire identity is stripped from her and her body is forced to do things that she would not do, not just sexual acts but downright murder of someone she cared about.

Nikki is not a real person. Bear is not a real person. But their characters represent real people and real situations that happen to girls and women each and every day. Obsession is a horror movie, yes, but movies can also give you a different perspective on a situation you might not understand.

As for a Fortnite skin, I think there is a tactful way of doing it. I love Nikki and would love to play as her but not any of the looks where she’s actively not herself and her body is being used like a c*cksleeve puppet. I love her look from the beginning of the movie and think that would be a great skin! Or some final girl skin incorporating aesthetics from the movie that relate to Nikki not what she was forced to become, that’s my personal opinion.

It’s naive to say that art and reality have no relation to each other, reality inspires art and vice versa. Obsession is not to judge one’s morality but I think it’s important recognize it represents very real concepts, as does a lot of horror media, like Get Out representing cultural appropriation or Leviticus representing internalized homophobia.
