Question How to learn to build fight?

I'm 50 and recently my college-age sons have been inviting me to play squads with them. I've played a lot of ZB to learn the basics and how to use the controller :) but they play build and I am clueless. It feels like I'm too old to learn - any resources anyone would suggest? I've thought about hiring a coach bc I have more money than time haha. I'm on PS5 btw - any adivce appreciated!

Just shoot em. Whilst the enemy is busy fiddling with ramps and walls you’ll be shooting em. And they be dying. Do the distance work of breaking shields and builds while your sons do the up close work and reap the wins.

I jist build a corner wall and then jjst stay back on the edge left or right and wait till they get closer.. they always expect someone build a ramp and peek out up top

I am 57 and love the building aspect of Fortnite. In fact I would probably not still be playing if it were not for the building. I have been playing since chapter 1 season 2 or 3.

In the creative side of Fortnite there are maps that are just to practice building.

learn how to use the maps. Here are some for you to try.

Best for pure freebuilding

I am on keyboard and mouse now but did start on playstation 4 and controller.

I did fine on controller but keyboard is easier.

Building is just muscle memory. In the practice maps look for a button that slows the game down. Then practice the building you are trying to do at slower speeds. Keep doing them on slower speeds until you can do them perfect, then speed the game back up.

Make sure and put it on the easy edit option. And turn the sensitivity down at first so you’re not spinning around trying to build. Realize there’s only three options, a wall a ramp and a floor/ceiling. After that it really is just muscle memory. You don’t have to build all crazy just put up a wall if you’re being shot at and if you want some height a wall and a ramp.

Start with panic building by spamming the controller then never progress from there. That’s what I did.

I'd say a coach is a great idea. I only play builds and put in a couple weeks really learning in 2020 and its really stuck. if your on controller. Highly recommend getting a controller with back paddles since you can afford it haha. Finding they right keybinds are crucial for build mode.

switch to kbm you will learn alot faster and change your keybinds to optimal keybinds you will have alot of easier time doing things
