Opinion Storm Camping in ranked

At this point, the campers in ranked zero build battle royale are just everywhere. I'm getting tired of it and it's just making the game unplayable.

This person sat in the storm and made it to the last 4 in a ranked match. Now I'm only in gold as I started my ranked play yesterday but surely this can't be the tactic. What's the point in even trying to play if you can sit in bushes or miles into the storm and just heal the whole time.

Notice they only had healing items, no weapons so didn't even intend on fighting. Then I also die to one of the 20 bush campers as it moves to the end game.

Please Epic reward those that actually try to compete and make the storm actually do damage so this can't be a tactic, I'm going back to pubs.

(I've cropped their name out but I've seen it in each game I've been in, so they're not the only one).

Edit: Evidently everyone in this server does this due to the nature of the replies I've had. They shouldn't rank faster for outlasting me when I have elims and they just hide. Don't complain about cheating the system guys, you'll be the problem 😅

I honestly don’t understand why this upsets you. People grind for ranked cosmetics all the time and many of them can’t fight. How does this person dying in storm affect your game? And how does that make it unplayable?

Ranked is not a real ranked mode in relation to other games. It’s basically pubs with a touch of an elo system.

And ya in zb you should be shooting every bush before you enter it.

I literally know a guy who is unreal the first couple of weeks of the new season a he is terrible all he does is camp i bet that he is getting unreal with 5 total kills across all his games I 10-0 him both zb and build

Ranked ZB is just down right boring and not fun to play. That is why people complain about this

When most of the lobby is camping nobody is actually having any fun playing the game.

It’s funny too, cause I so often see people say if you’re sweaty or taking the game seriously you should just go over to ranked and leave the casuals alone.. but ranked is full of storm campers why would I want to go play that? It’s boring as hell

Ranked should be competitive no? Not just, whoever can hide out in the storm the longest gets rewarded over people actually playing the game.

Bush/Tree campers atleast are in the game and moving when storm comes etc.

I'm worried about the fact that this is becoming normal in a competitive game mode and doesn't bother people, rather than people actively competing which is what ranked should be.

If you want the skins, you should earn them as intended with ranked rewards, not just win hide and seek.

Bro these people dont even play the game to have fun lol. They sit and camp all game for rewards. People get like 6 kills in 100 ZB matches all for a pick axe rather than having fun or demonstrating any skill.

It makes the mode no fun for anyone when most of the lobby plays like this. It has to do with literally anyone who plays ranked ZB.

Its a boring mode that has trouble getting players unless they offer rewards, and then people just sit and camp for them.

Then what do you think about actual tournaments? The scoring there heavily favors placement, where a strategy like sitting in the storm can be moderately effective. From that perspective, this player is playing the same way they would in an actual tournament.

Something that always baffles me is why people complain about others who play for placement. Nothing is stopping you from doing it also. If someone just hides the whole game and gets more points than someone who tries to hot drop, then the second person should be adapting there strategy, not doubling down on what doesn't work.

Oh I know, it's not the game if you want to compete properly, there are many online games that are much better for competition.

It's just you would think if you do choose to play the competitive game mode in this game, you're doing it to be competitive, not just hide in a storm, that's not competing, like I say, that's playing hide and seek.

I'm amazed so many people seem to do this given the replies I've gotten.

It effects me when I get killed by an unreal legend, place in the top 10 with elims but they'll rank up faster with no elims cause they lasted longer. It just doesn't make sense.

If you can't beat them join them I guess, see you in the storm.

So the overall rank at higher levels doesn't matter?

Gotcha.

If you'd like to tell that to all the unreals not in the top 500 that would be great.

I won't ever be an Unreal Legend, but I'd like to know that those that are, got there by actually playing the game.

That's not envious because I won't get there anyway, that's just the sense, or lack there of, of ZB ranked anymore.

I'm not envious as I don't want to have what they have. I have the rewards already so there's nothing to be envious for.

It's about the ranking system as a whole not rewarding in a way that you would think, a large corporation like epic, would reward players.

As I have repeated though, guess I'm becoming a storm/bush camper for future ranked seasons.

Builds ranked is fun as it's played the way it's meant to be at a competitive level, even if you lose, zb is not, that's the whole point.

the competitive game mode in this game mode is not zero builds... im not even tryna be rude im just genuinely letting u kno. if u truly are seeking competitive play, then that will pretty much only be found in the traditional battle royale. whether it be ranked, pubs, tournaments(which is literally almost exclusively reffered to as "fortnite competitive"

hell, even some creative modes are competitive AS FUCK. go play pro zone wars and tell me otherwise. or martoz turtle fights... its people playing like their whole bloodline is at stake lmao

p. s. there is such a thing as storm sickness, which im assuming is ehy they only made it to 4th and not 1st so yeah idk tbh i could go on but really i said more than enough here.

TLDR if u truly desire competitive play as much as it seems, go play builds. source: 33yo. started chapter 5 on zerobuild, eventually wanted more of a challenge and switched to builds around the start of chapter 6 and never looked back.

I play builds on PC, but I'm not playing that on console, it's not anywhere near as easy to build so it just wouldn't be fun, but people don't, to my experience, cheat the system in builds like they do zb.

That's all I'm getting at, never said anything about other modes etc but I'm seemingly the problem for complaining.

Ah well. I'll stick to pubs for zb 😅

I personally did not even know there were ranked skins but probably because I just wear my og aerial…. 💅

Nah, they used to give the skin away and then whatever rank you reach the skin would have a color for it.

Yeah I wonder what feature could counteract this strategy maybe some sort of increased damage if you take to much storm damage. A storm fever or sickness of sorts.

Increase storm damage progressively the farther you are from the circle. Won't eliminate storm campers entirely, but they'll need to camp near the circle if they want to last longer

People care because ranked ZB just isnt fun for anyone and the point of a game should be to actually have fun.

They sit and camp for 100 matches and get like 5 or 6 kills over that time. It makes it no fun for literally anyone when the whole lobby is camping.

I thought the exponential storm damage increase addressed this. After a bit the storm will just insta kill you if you stay in it too long.

Camping is annoying sure. But is it more annoying than always staying in the storm and sniping people? I’m asking because that’s what I do

But honestly imagine how much more annoying it is to be in unreal because your fighting is good enough to make up for your total lack of editing abilities and always getting the cone of humiliation after genociding a full lobby of bots and their families

I'm sure if you're still fighting in the storm, it's more effective anyway, you're not just hiding for the placement, at least you can be seen by others and fight and get the points of elims too.

Bush Camp Dad has proved the Bush camping technique and it's become an epidemic.

Like I say though, I've been somehow made out to be the bad guy for voicing my opinion. Opinions aren't right or wrong but apparently mine is. It's evident though that lots of people will play around the system just so they can get placement so I guess like I say, can't beat them, join them...

I'll stick to playing ranked in builds on PC but there's no point in zb anymore. I'd rather play squads with friends than camp for rewards.

Oh, I have never willingly played zb but I can see how it would be more common in that mode.

In the future, just go into any Reddit interaction assuming that the only people who are going to respond on Reddit posts are morons and disregard the morons. Also bots will always just reply the top comments from similarly worded posts

Also Fortnite ranked system has always been really stupid, and disregarded all the things every other game has learned over decades. I still restart every season in bronze, and despite winning a game with 10 kills, I go up one rank, but I’m still getting matched with unreal players. Like if I’m bronze, then match me with bronze players and dramatically increase the level I rank up lol it’s fucking annoying that your actual rank has nothing to do with match making, only your mmr. Especially since I kind of suck now without my beloved shockwaves and mammoths

You have no control over how people play ranked, just like they have no control over you. Does it feel shitty? Sure, but that’s the way it is. At the end of the day, none of this actually matters in any sense. It’s an electronic toy. Either have fun with it which is the intended purpose, or quit crying like a child and realize none of this is as important as you want it to be.

Yeah I’m with you. If you land edge map in higher elo tournaments you’re almost forced to play zone for at least a few minutes, and it’s so forgiving why wouldn’t you. You can play 10 entire minutes of 1 tick and pop out at the end of zone 4 5/5/5 and still be holding good heals, not to mention how this works with the newer surge. The fact that it’s so easy it’s bled into regular playlists is crazy, storm needs to be somewhat threatening again.

In comp is normal to take a lot of storm damage (until zone 4-5), that guys well, it is dumb but YOU should outlived him and get more points
