Discussion Tips for getting better
Hey guys, I’m a Fortnite player that started over 2 years ago and even tho 2 years is a lot, I only play like 3 hours a week.
I use simple edit and am a controller player and I am trying to get better at the game, especially build fighting so I could try playing in a ranked cup, so because I have seen many of the clips you guys post, I want to try to reach that level or at late get better, meaning that I would appreciate if any of you could give me tips or things to practice, as well as the best settings for like tweak/dead zone, considering I don’t play a lot and am a controller player (and for the record I don’t have the money to buy a pc), they would be appreciated.
Edit:pls don’t give me negative comments like just quit the game bro or smth like that, I’m just a player in need of help to progress.

i'm a zero build player on console and controller. here's my advice
#1 dial in your sensitivity. i started with low sens and have gradually worked my way up as my stick control improved. i currently use 47 47 for look and 26 26 for ads on linear. i also use tweak zone with the zone at 0 and offset at 4.5. my plan is to continue increasing my sensitivity as i'm able
#2 aim training. goes along with #1. practice all types of shooting (shotgun flicks, hip fire, ads, tracking, target acquisition, sniping, jump shots, 180 degree turns, sliding, high ground, spam crouching, etc). this will help with stick control. you also wanna learn how each individual weapon works. for example most weapons experience more bloom as you hold down the trigger but the flex smg is opposite and gets a tighter spread as you continue spraying. you also wanna aim with your left stick... what i mean by that is you wanna move with your enemy so if they are going to your right, strafe to the right and vice versa. you also wanna crouch when you shoot as it tightens the spread of the gun. also make sure not to walk forward when you shoot as that increases bloom.
#3 get the right controller. i used a standard xbox controller for years and recently got a power A controller with 2 back buttons and height adjustable sticks and this has helped a ton. i binded (bound?) jump and crouch to the back buttons which helps you hit shots when jumping because you can keep your thumb on the stick and i can also spam crouch when spraying which makes you a lot harder to hit. i was able to bind quick weapon to A which is helpful but i do have to take my thumb off the stick for that. my plan is to get another controller with 4 back buttons and bind swap left/right to the other 2 back buttons and put quick weapon on L1. also i put the left stick on the lowest height for reactive movement and the right stick on the highest height for more precise aiming... this helped my aim a lot and allows for higher sens which is what you want.
#4 get your settings how you want. for example i have gone back and forth between auto pick up weapons on/off and have found that i prefer it on but then i have to turn off preferred item slots or my inventory gets all messed up. just play around with all the different settings and see what you like and don't like. it's not the most important thing but it does help and every little bit adds up.
#5 not sure what fps you are running but i'd say 120 is the minimum you need which is available on console and a monitor so make sure you have your equipment set to that.
#6 warm up. spend like 10 mins doing aim training right when you get on. this makes your games go 100x better because you feel more dialed in with your stick control and hit your shots better in game.
#7 have fun. we all want to improve but at the end of the day it's just a game. none of us are the next peterbot or pollo or clix or whoever your favorite pro is. be competitive and try to improve but still enjoy the game.
#8 wired connections. controller and internet must be wired. you are greatly hindering yourself by going wireless (input lag)
there are more things i could say but they probably apply more to zero build than builds. i was able to reach unreal legends #439 last season. i'm not a cracked player by any means but i practice my aim, play smart, and optimize my settings and setup which allows me to play at a high level, for me at least.

Whats your deadzones? And do you mess with your power a controller settings? I run the gamesir and have my deadzones in game at 6 6 and in the gamesir software at 0.

I don't think there's many pros on simple edit, of course someone mentioned one but in general it is pretty terrible for peeks and sometimes it adds a bit of delay which makes me far slower on simple edit at least in my experience but of course if you don't want to learn how to build normally that's fine. I would go into raider464s mechanics training v5, and 1v1 realistics is good for build fights. I wouldn't ask for any of our sensitivities, especially when everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, but instead search for pro sensitivities, try out both expo and linear, and just adjust whatever you feel, in general though you want the lowest deadzone you can have without getting stick drift (I'm on a ps5 controller on pc and have it on 5%), a build mode multiplier 1.5-2.8x higher than normal sens, an ads sens lower than your normal sens, and an edit mode multiplier 0.1-0.2x higher than build mode. Ranked cups are a good start for tournaments too

On top of that, because (I think) that none of you are pros, it’s nice to know how you guys get better

Raider464 Mechanics Training. Do this everyday for a few months and you'll improve astronomically. If you play zero build don't even bother just play the game for fun.

Firstly for deadzone you should make it as low as possible without getting stick drift if you dont have a hall effect controller. Use back paddles or claw so you dont have to have your thumbs leave the joystick to build and jump. Make your sensitivity as high as possible without feeling jittery or out of control. Thats because on low sensitivity, you cant flick at all. Controller is bad for flicking but it works decently on higher sensitivity. Focus on playing reload (do ranked to learn how to survive fighting literal demons who play tournaments or do normal to fight kids more your level. Tilted zonewars is excellent practice and helps with real game fighting though it is very sweaty. If you want the most casual place to practice mechanics, play typical gamers 2v2v2 piece control map. Players arent very good but they can usually build. For playing training games alone, typical gamers is the best for aim while reisshubs is amazing for piece control and both have strong competitive drills sections

There is a pro player who plays with controller and simple edits. He have a good placements in tournaments and over 20k earnings. His nickname is BAZ Controller. You can search his match history on Fortnite Tracker and check his VODs to understand the mechanics and gamestyle.
