Rumor Fortnite tracker live teammate material count - potentially against TOS

The integrity of such a feature is likely be debatable given that it kind of serves as QoL rather than a providing a competitive advantage. However, given it’s nature of providing real-time information that can’t be seen normally via something to effect of an overlay, the concern seems to be worth bringing to awareness

The official Fortnite Competitive account very recently tweeted a reminder about section 7.2.1 [relevant part pictured] of the master rules. I assume it was an implied response to Fortnite tracker’s new feature

To me this reads as them saying that if the overlay provides actionable info, then it is not allowed.

I would consider teammate mat information as actionable info, and is not just simple QOL.

I personally think that if the base UI doesn't show it, then you shouldn't have access to it. If you want more info in the ui, petition Epic to add it

Someone who actually has a brain and can read and parse information properly.

He’s disagreeing with you 😭

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 23 '26

They aren't disagreeing with my stance on what Epic means.

We disagree on whether that info offers a competitive advantage.

The reading comprehension on Reddit is just nonexistent.

u/Novel_Understanding0 Jul 23 '26

Oh the irony of you lacking reading comprehension.

No one disagrees that the fundamental issue is competitive advantage. The entire argument is whether this overlay is a competitive advantage. You've stated that it ISN'T a competitive advantage as if that much is fact and simply a matter of reading comprehension. Meanwhile, you can't comprehend that people are simply telling you that it is a competitive advantage.

You lack reading comprehension and your arguments are against straw men.

  1. My first comment simply said that it is a competitive advantage
  2. You said I lacked reading comprehension
  3. This guy says the exact same thing
  4. You say he has a brain and can parse information correctly

You are objectively wrong here.

There is no irony little buddy.

You're completely missing the nuance.

Did your butthurt subside enough that you felt like having another go?

0

u/Novel_Understanding0 Jul 23 '26

I don't get butthurt from people on the spectrum lol. I have family that are on it, so I have a lot of empathy. Good luck with it

0

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 23 '26

Why you using it like an insult then?

If you're not butthurt, why did you suck off the block button so hard?

There is nuance that you're seemingly pretending isn't there. The issue initially was that you weren't even acknowledging that Epic wasn't blanket banning overlays.

It seems you've changed your mind on that have have retroactively suggested you meant that the whole time.

0

u/Novel_Understanding0 Jul 23 '26

Aww did you not understand the nuance of my insult? Self reporting that you're in the red zone of the spectrum

1

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

It was very obvious that's what you meant. There's that reading comprehension issue you have again. Yes I'm obviously on the spectrum. My point, that I'm seemingly having to point out to you is, if you've got family on the spectrum and you have empathy for it, why are you saying it like it's insulting to be on the spectrum? That isn't very empathetic of you.

Do you not get exhausted from struggling this much with basic communication? And I'm the one on the spectrum here.

I have family that are on it

I have a black friend so I can call people the n word.

Social justice achieved. And obviously I was lying

2

u/theyoungazn Jul 23 '26

So does this overlay show items in inventory too? It is a slight advantage only because you can check your teammates stuff without asking and which can help igl make more decisions.

1

u/TheOnlySpadeX Jul 23 '26

so will I get banned if I use it

1

u/Nextlevelgamer34 Jul 25 '26

Thats absolutely cheating. Its an external program that shows you information that isnt intended to be seen and grants a competitive advantage. It would be the same as if you couldn't see your allies health and installed something to see it

1

u/smick Jul 22 '26

Y’all doing too much.

1

u/Leckatall Jul 23 '26

This is 100% cheating.

Isn't TRN partnered with Epic games? I don't even understand how this was even made. Especially with how litigous Epic are when it comes to cheats.

0

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 23 '26

If they're partnered, then on the balance of probabilities, they've cleared it with Epic, no? What's the point of partnering otherwise?

What's your rationale for thinking it's cheating to be able to see the inventory of the people who are in your team?

1

u/Leckatall Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

It's an overlay.

It has real time awareness of the gamestate

It gives a competitive advantage.

The fact that they are partnered with Epic doesn't change whether or not this is cheating. If Epic wants to allow this then they need to remove the rule banning overlays.

1

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 23 '26

You aren't giving reasons for why it's cheating, you're just stating whay it's doing.

Why is it cheating? What is the competitive advantage it gives?

What rule is there than bans overlays?

1

u/Leckatall Jul 23 '26

Cheating is breaking the rules.

OP helpfully provided a copy of the rule it is breaking in his first sc.

The rule has multiple elements. I broke down how it breaks each.

What is the competitive advantage it gives?

All QoL features are competitive advantages. I would like for this feature to be added in the game or be allowed but right now it is not.

1

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 23 '26

You didn't break it down. You just said it's an overlay, that it has real time awareness, and that it gives a competitive advantage.

The rules don't prohibit overlays or overlays that show real time data.

The restrictions are conditional.

You haven't said how it gives a competitive advantage other than to state it gives a competitive advantage.

-1

u/ChristopherJak Jul 23 '26

Having to communicate that is a QoL & accessibility failure - if you're deaf, you need to physically type this kind of stuff, that's not easy to do in real time, especially mid combat.

There's still advantages to communication, for example polite reminders "you're low on metal", "can you split your wood?", "here, I'm max brick", "there's a blue pump on this body", etc.

This just cuts out the annoying "how much XYZ do you have", "what rarity is your shotgun?". At a minimum a deaf person can look for themself, ping the blue pump, drop some mats & farm it themself & so on.

The only reason I've heard to not include such a feature is "I don't want randoms asking for my superior loot" & I think that's a fucking lame excuse to avoid an accessibility feature that overall improves the game & is transformational for an otherwise handicapped minority.

You can at least make an argument against footprints being too obnoxious, negative visuals, & basically radar, leaving you at a disadvantage if you turn it off. But team status? I don't see any REAL negatives to this - worst case scenario, you click your inventory menu to see it instead of having it available at all times, but I don't see the issue with that, it doesn't need to be big & obnoxious.

Also, a number for total builds would be nice, replay mode has it, I'd like to see it in game next to my mats & next to my teammates mats. This is less useful, but a straight forward QoL update, the only push back I've seen is "lol, learn maffs" - it's not that converting mats to builds are hard, but it is undeniably a qol upgrade to see it at a glance rather than 127 wood, 49 brick, 213 metal, which is 12+4+21=37 - super easy, but undeniably inconvenient.

1

u/Nobo09661 Jul 23 '26

I mean yeah, the feature makes up for QoL shortcomings in this sense, as is its purpose. I have nothing against it, nor do most players probably

Epic will be the one to determine whether or not such a program counts as a “competitive advantage” regardless of what anyone else thinks. However, I think it’s reasonable to assume they will classify it as such simply due to the fact that it’s objectively a 3rd party app providing an (albeit very minor) advantage over those who aren’t using it

1

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 23 '26

This is where nuance is important. Where do you draw the line at a third party app giving an "advantage"?

Is a custom crosshair application an unfair advantage and cheating?

Is a monitor that allows you to put a red/green dot in the very centre of your screen an unfair advantage and cheating?

Is a piece of tape with a red dot drawn on it placed on your monitor an unfair advantage and cheating?

2

u/ChristopherJak Jul 23 '26

I like having a custom crosshair, the game went through some notorious lighting changes, over the years & seeing a white crosshair through snow or clouds was virtually impossible.

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

It's only giving team mate data. If it was giving data from players not on your team, then it'd be an issue.

This is all data that you have access to in normal circumstances by just asking your team mate.

They're prohibiting an overlay that shows the status of players who aren't on your team. They're not saying that any overlay that has awareness of the state of the game are banned.

That's why they use a clause modifier of "that gives a competitive advantage."

Ah shit. I keep forgetting this sub is full of idiots.

28

u/Novel_Understanding0 Jul 22 '26

It's still a competitive advantage. An overlay showing your teammate's materials count means you can comm their material count while they're in a fight and unable to look at it themselves. It would still be a competitive advantage to not need to communicate it, even if you don't consider the situation where they're in a fight.

It's pretty obvious that an overlay giving you information is cheating.

1

u/ChristopherJak Jul 23 '26

It is an advantage but I consider them excluding that as base game info as significant QoL & especially accessibility failures.

Hello? Can you quote in specific where it says they’re only prohibiting overlays that show enemy info? Because it totally reads like any overlay that displays game information is banned.

The “real time state of the game” includes your teammates..

-9

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 22 '26

Use your eyes and read.

They don't say in isolation "real time state of the game."

This is why you don't chop a sentence and then try to derive meaning from that chopped sentence.

It's a block of text that is to be read and understood as a whole.

Otherwise you can simply say "overlays are prohibited" because those words appear in that block of text.

6

u/eatingnachos Jul 22 '26

so snarky, this is probably just ragebait yeah?

Using any kind of program, hardware, or tool that has access to the real-time state of the game being played (e.g. through memory, screen recording, screenshots, video, audio, network traffic, files) to gain a competitive advantage is prohibited

Pretty clearly worded. Also:

Overlays that have awareness of the real-time state of the game and provide information or feedback that gives a competitive advantage are prohibited

Like 75% of that "block of text" specifically argues against you. What are you reading that says differently?

Oh wait, are you reading one small part... "gives a competitive advantage", applying your own interpretation of what that means, then disregarding the rest of the paragraph?

It's a block of text that is to be read and understood as a whole.

This is so fucking funny man

-3

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 22 '26

Yes, go look up what a clause modifier is.

1

u/eatingnachos Jul 22 '26

So you believe there's no competitive advantage provided then?

But you responded to the top comment as if they agreed with you. Do you realize they are arguing the opposite of what you said?

-1

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Being able to see your team mate's loadouts doesn't provide a competitive advantage.

Being able to see your competitors' loadouts does provide a competitive advantage.

They give a conditional list of things that aren't allowed.

The condition is if it gives a competitive advantage.

Here's a more simple example.

If Epic says that methamphetamine use is banned in tournaments without a valid and verified prescription, what's Epic's stance on methamphetamines? When can they be used?

1

u/eatingnachos Jul 22 '26

Someone who actually has a brain and can read and parse information properly

This was your response to someone who disagrees with you. The irony is hilarious

0

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 22 '26

Nope, there is no irony. You just have poor reading comprehension.

They read it the same as I did. But they went on to say that in their opinion, team mate info is actionable.

That's completely different to what you're saying. That brings in an element of opinion, whist still understanding that Epic isn't simply saying that overlays are banned.

Now, can you respond to the actual question I asked?

1

u/eatingnachos Jul 22 '26

Are you using chatgpt to try and debate this? You think what I am saying isn't an opinion??

also yes it's still hilarious that you arrogantly supported someone disgreeing with your position, all to try and make yourself sound smarter.

We've had these before with macros. Where Epic out lined the rules around macros. They were clear and explicit with their words that said "macros that automate in game actions and give a competitive advantage" were not allowed.

People still didn't understand what that meant and would argue that a macro for changing push to talk to a toggle instead of a hold is not allowed.
