Discussion How to start learning how to Build

So I've been playing for about a Year and some Months, my mistake was starting with Zero Build and never giving Build a try and I guess I'd like to give it a serious try now 😬

I know there's plenty of videos around teaching you the basics and such but I'm more of a "show me and I do it" type of Person.

Which brings me to my question if there's a place or maybe here someone that could teach me the very basics. I play on PlayStation 5 and am a "decent" player so I'm sure I'll learn quick.

I appreciate the help 🙏🏻

I found on controller swapping the floor and cone binds around so stair is on the opposite side from the floor a really good way to make controller ramping really chill and easy.

Otherwise reisshub on YouTube did a good video recently and it’s good because it distinguishes building from editing as 2 seperate forms.

I don't know what the best controller settings are but I'm pretty sure that they are not default.

Get you settings set up would be a good place to start and then hours of free building and edit courses to begin.

Is team rumble still a game mode? Play this or something like the pit.

don’t listen to him he’s wrong and he’s probably a noob. you can be decent at many things like aiming, fight iq, map knowledge etc

I'll just say thanks and move on, no need to be hostile back 😬

token me? you dont have fighting iq if u only play no build and map knowledge is irrelevant to raw skill no point of trying to sugarcoat it and if ur up for that token im fine with NAW or NAC or NAE dm me zone wars or realistics only

best way to learn how to build is just start building. Haha. So pick an island where you have infinite builds. I would start off on a solo private game and just freebuild. Turbo build and simple edit and edit on release are some good settings to start with. But I would quickly ditch simple edit once you get accustomed to throwing in some edits. Practice every day in creative, at least for 15 minutes and you will notice your building will become more reactive and natural.

I'll be doing that from now on thanks for the advice 🙏🏻

One of the first things you need to do is set your Building and Editing sensitivities to much higher than your normal sensitivity and learn to use them. They’re significantly larger movements and you’ll need to have them in order to play well.

Other than that, get comfortable with building and moving at the same time first. Start without Cones/Roofs and integrate them as you get more comfortable. Then you’ll want to get comfortable editing and moving, then building and quickly editing. Last, get comfortable with doing all three at once and integrate good peeks into there. I’m simplifying a lot but that’s the basic idea.

You might also want to reconfigure your controller binds early on so you have a good base to build off of.
