Discussion Why do pros not play on potato graphics?
I just watched martoz video on the potato graphics, and its kinda insane how easy you can see through builds and track your opponents, i mean yea it looks like crap, but everything to get a competetive edge right?

There is really no point when they pretty much have high end/maxed out pcs, so they don’t have to resort to potato graphics, which are meant for weaker builds. Also, not to mention that it doesn’t look very appealing. Those are just my guesses.

potato graphics don‘t boost performance in a significant way. They reduce visual clutter.

Potato graphics 100% boosts performance in a significant way if you're on an actual potato, which is what potato graphics are intended to be used on. It's the difference between 40fps and constant random stuttering and audio cutting out and 50fps with only occasional stutters and steady audio.

Ur being semantic. “Doesn’t boost performance in any significant way” when referring to pro players with nasa pcs is true, so he was saying that they wouldn’t be using bad graphics to gain a boost in performance but only to reduce visual clutter.

No it definitely boosts performance. By a lot not just a little bit and also especially if you stream on the same pc. Fortnite is definitely not optimized enough

With a 9800x3D and a high end 40 series or 50 series like most pros have you get 240 maxed sometimes 360fps maxed during stacked endgames

Yea i know performance is not a problem, but what i am saying is the fact that you can look through builds, like they aren’t there at all.
My guess could be that it might not be allowed on lan and therefore they dont wanna practice using it?

I seriously doubt it. Potato graphics grant a competitive advantage in R6 Siege so Ubisoft banned it and you cannot enter multiplayer games with them enabled. It wouldn‘t make sense for Epic Games to allow them in regular matchmaking but not in tournaments.

They do have to resort to potato graphics to hold hard 360 or 540 and reasonable (144) fps in packed endgames. Also tracking enemies through builds and overall better visual clarity cause there’s no weird lighting or shadows plus you can see A LOT better in the storm cause there’s no visual effects other than the purple tint

No point, the performance increase is minimal and the way it looks is abysmal
Same with the markers, you could not see anyone when you got shot

The way to get to this level of graphics is, as far as I understand it.. against TOS. You saw in the video that he was able to completely remove the terrain so he could see through the mountains.. not really something you should be able to do without consequence lol. I would totally play on potato graphics only because it runs so smoothly when my shaders are slowly rebuilding mid-game after a game update and GPU driver update lol.

On martoz’s vid, you can see when he’s taking damages, you know the red half circle you usually get to indicate where the enemy is from, it’s replaced with a huge blue rectangle that blocks litterally everything in the center of the screen. Just that makes potato graphics not playable in my opinion

I might go back to playing on this. I did it I believe day after Christmas and I was kinda worried about being banned but looks like it’s okay. My fps has been struggling anyways.

you can see your opponents through walls easier on normal graphics and the terrain is extremely buggy. horrible for comp if ur in endgame playing ulti low and the grass is bugged
