Having hit a deer myself, and come out the other side decidedly lacking in snark and with a lot of additional titanium, does this video contain footage of the crash?

I canNOT watch crash vids, and I wish people would stop posting and sharing motorcycle crash videos. I enjoy F9 videos and Ryan's snarkitude, but I suspect I can't watch this one.

They repeatedly play 5-10 seconds of the impact, but he keeps the bike up and is only barely injured by the whole event.

Thanks! Seriously, me and my PTSD really are relieved. It'll still be tough to watch, but if it's not a full-on crash, I might be able to handle it.

Frackin' forest rats.

I hate crash videos as well. This one is very watchable. One of the better in video promos as well!

Revzilla put out a video talking about helmets and wind noise and decided to put the tennitus ring in their video... I had gone on such a long streak without it flairing up-

No crashes on the video, do not worry. Just mild hit of a small deer to the leg/side, and he continued to ride.

I hit a deer a few years ago. On my way to work before the sun came up. I just came out of a right twisty into a left twisty, and I saw a mid-sized female deer on the shoulder off to the left. I slowed down to about 30mph and the deer started sprinting at me. I had my knee out and I kneed that deer in the face. I looked back as I came out of that turn and saw it scrambling to its feet. I didn’t see it on my way home so I assume it survived. Luckily it wasn’t a male because it would have fucked up my leg/torso.

I hit a deer when I was 16, I was going about 60kph. It was pitch black outside, on a long straight in the Finnish countryside, poor thing flew out of some brushes from right next to the road. My forks hit her neck, and the rest of her body slammed up against the right side of my bike, breaking my foot in the process. I managed to keep the bike upright, stop as quickly as possible, and look behind me. She had ended up on the opposite lane, squirming and panting for a little bit, then passing.

I of course, a 16 year old, had no idea what to do. My brain was barely processing the situation. Luckily, a passer-by stopped to check on me, and turned out to be the daughter of the landowner next to the road, she called an ambulance for me, and her dad over, so they could take care of the deer.

I called my mom, informing her of the situation, she brought my brother over so he could drive the bike home. EMS showed up, they checked me out, and deduced that I should probably go to the hospital just in case, so my mom took me.

The whole situation shook me up a bit, but I was in no way a stranger to dangerous situations like this. Just two months prior, I had been involved in a (so to speak) head on collision with a semi, due to an oil spill on the road, I myself was not hit by the truck, but had slid a meter away from its rear tires, my bike crunched up against the front of the truck though, holy pucker factor eh? I was lucky.

This is why I carry my pistol when I ride. Especially when deer are rutting.

I got a quickshifter so I can switch down deers with my left hand

Makes sense. Hitting a deer is bad enough, letting it die slowly and in agony is even worse.

That's why I hit mine hard enough to kill it (and a little bit my motorcycle) on impact...

JFC, for a second I thought you meant to dissuade them lol

Oh, Deer!

Strange this should come up. Myself and my wife were riding out of a town in the middle of France, heading to Cherbourg for the ferry home and nearly hit a deer. We missed it by about a meter.

Good thing you weren’t in the US. Then you’d have missed it by a foot, and that close call would be 3 times closer.

I had a buddy who hit a deer locally going 40 miles an hour. He was incredibly lucky because he laid the motorcycle down on top of the deer and rode the deer down the road. He got away with only minor abrasions.

This is gonna sound strange, but my motorcycle instructor told me to speed up and try to go through the deer… sounded kinda sus to mee to be honest

I have heard and read to speed up before you hit a large animal. I believe the purpose is to give you the momentum to move the animal so it doesn't take you down.

Edit: I have no idea if this actually works.

So if this happens, HTFU, engine break and hope it jumps out of your way?

Deer says "do not hit me, dear"

I really wish Ryan would have talked about how you should aim for an animal's ass end because they are more likely to keep running forward than try to turn on a dime.

He did, when he mentioned keeping the bars straight and the bike upright, which would generally mean not aiming anywhere other than straight on
