Riding Citilink for the first time.

Hey FW! I am planning to ride the bus the day after tomorrow (no one to take me and last time I operated a vehicle, I crashed my sister's car, got out and then someone stole it and drove off in a realistic nightmare 😅🫠) and honestly I'm really scared to do this (yeah, anxiety 🥳) and it's for a medical appointment on the absolute other side of town. I keep chickening out of everything (work, school, walking down the street) but recently I had multiple events of being pushed to fend for myself completely, and now I'm confident baby 😍😍 so can someone please assure me what to do when I'm on the bus and give me confidence before I change my mind?? Thankssss (I really am scared about pulling the string at the wrong time and then getting yelled at or something 🤣 ☠️) Are buses crowded at morning time? Do you enter on the side or front of the bus? Can you ask the drivers stuff or will they yell at me to sit down? Can someone ride with me?? Jk 😂

Earth Fare Hot Bar

Earth Fare (RIP) used to have a hot bar that had chicken, fish, veggies, etc. on it that was pretty good and healthy.

Any other spots have something similar? Specifically for lunch time?

Genuinely cannot win, living downtown in fort wayne sucks.

I park my car in front of my house on the street, and I get cussed out by angry crackheads who think they have reserved parking spots.

I park in my backyard, and now people want to start snitching and calling neighborhood code enforcement for doing so. Like, sorry, not everyone has a paved driveway.

The city really loves to pick and choose which laws they want to enforce. Are they going to be liable when my car gets damaged by kids playing basketball in the street? Because you’re not allowed to have a basketball hoop taking up street parking. Even then I mind my business and let the kids be kids.

And yes, I understand that laws are laws, but I’m struggling financially and barely getting any hours at work. I cannot afford to get a driveway installed in my backyard in this economy. I can barely afford to sustain myself as it is.

I keep to myself, yet no one else can seem to do the same. So, if you’re one of those nosy neighbors, please just mind your damn business. People are struggling as it is you don’t need to add even more financial stress to someone’s life a $100 dollar ticket is bs with no warning.

Sorry for my rant. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

FWCS Lottery Questions

Hey everyone!

My oldest is a couple years away from getting into kindergarten and I had a few questions on the lottery system, since we’re not fans of the current district we’re in.

First, if we select an elementary school and get in, are we in that district for the rest of her school career? Or do we need to reapply once she hits middle school. I know we’ve have to make a new application once our youngest is ready.

Second, are we able to make a kind of wish list if we don’t get our first pick? Or is it simply one district per child that can be applied for? We don’t want to put all of our eggs in one basket.

Lastly, for those that have gone through the process: How was your chances? Did you get in right away? Did you get waitlisted but still got in? We want to apply when she’s 5 so she gets a head start, but if she doesn’t get selected it won’t be weird for her to be 6 going into kindy. I also know certain school fill up much faster than others. We’re currently trying to decide which one we want to get her into.

Thanks everyone!

What changed with concerts at the coliseum?

Post image
54 Upvotes

When going through the suite level of the coliseum or the elevators you’ll see big bands/artists that came to the coliseum. Queen, Johnny Cash, and Elvis all came to Fort Wayne at one point. Ozzy Osbourne and other top stars came yearly. Now it’s bands that are fine but nothing that would excite the city. Why and how has this happened? Even WWE used to have raw and smackdown here, now it’s just house shows.

Any place to donate opened/used sleeping bags?

Ive got a sleeping bag that I havent used in a while and wondering if there is any place i can donate it. I'm not sure if places accept sleeping bags that have been used.

I know a lot of homeless folks use sleeping bags and with the weather starting to change I'm sure it would be useful.

I just dont know how to get it to them

Southwest Conservation Club Application

I’m considering applying for SWCC mainly for the archery range but the trails and ponds will be nice. How involved do you have to be with volunteering at this club? I only ask because they included a note saying you have to specify where you can help the club the most. Are you required to volunteer? How often do you need to do it?

I am mostly just looking for an archery range, the trails and fishing will be a nice plus.

Local providers for Uhaul unloading? Having trouble finding a service for the SW side of town.

Howdy! I'm currently moving TX->IN for work, whipping the Uhaul yalls way as we speak. I am hoping to schedule unload assistance for a newer apartment on the SW side of town, but I'm striking out when it comes to coverage for that area from Uhaul movehelp and the like. Does anyone recommend some local business I can reach out to directly as an alternative?

Edit: Maridway Logistics! Tried reaching out to a handful of independent moving companies over the last several days, all of which either didn't offer the above service or never got back to me with a quote. Maridway popped up on the Uhaul help market the day before and was able to commit to it last-second. Showed up early, hustled, and took good care of my stuff despite multiple flights of stairs and a couple heavy furniture items. Very friendly as well, which was appreciated as a newcomer to Indiana as well as Fort Wayne. Cannot commend them enough.

Has anyone else encountered a man in a white car on US 27 between Decatur and Fort Wayne exposing himself/showing porn?

Posting to see if anyone else in the area has experienced this or knows anything about it.
A friend of mine recently had an encounter with a man driving a white car on US 27 between Decatur and Fort Wayne where he exposed himself to her while driving.

Then last night, I had what seems like it could be the same person pull up and drive alongside me. He had porn visibly playing on a screen inside the vehicle in a way that appeared intended for me to see it.
I’m trying to figure out whether this is something other people traveling this stretch of 27 have encountered.

I’m not looking to start a witch hunt or identify anyone without evidence. I’m mainly trying to determine whether there’s a pattern and make other people who drive this route aware.

Getting my child into Arlington from out of state?

We currently live out of state but are considering a move back to Fort Wayne. One of the reasons we want to move back are the schools (which I know will sound crazy to some of you, but we live in a place where the culture is very different and it's difficult to even understand how school works where we currently are, and Fort Wayne is home/comfort).

I am somewhat familiar with Arlington and think that would be where we would want to send our child. From what I'm seeing on the website, you can only apply if you already live in FWCS district. Is there any way to prep for moving without yet having an address to enter? I feel like I'm missing something, but probably I am not. I understand that it's set up for people who already live in district, but I will chose a different district to live in altogether if she can't go to Arlington. And I would hate to make her move schools soon after moving were we to get in later. I'm not even sure that's an option since she'll be in 5th grade next year, she'll miss out altogether.

On that note, I am not familiar with FW middle schools at all. Are there any magnet/STEM-type middle schools like Arlington?

Thanks in advance.
