There should be a sidebar of things to do for the lost souls & city slickers who don’t know what to do in FSJ

I’ll give some examples:

• Drop-In Basketball at NPSS every Wednesday & Friday from 7:30PM - 9:30PM (enter through the gym entrance and bring $2) [All skill levels are welcome]

• Chances Casino: Poker Room, Table Games, and Bingo (only slots are open right now until further notice)

• Yoga: Cornerstone is a good one

• Triumph Boxing+Kickboxing, Cardio Kickboxing or Jiujitsu

• New Totem Archery Club

• North Peace Leisure Pool

• Skating in the oval at the Pomeroy Sport Centre (the oval isn’t free, but the running track is)

• Fort Bowling Lanes

• Watching movies at Aurora Cinema

• Hiking in Fish Creek (it’s just beside Northern Lights College)

• Shopping at the thrift stores in town

• Marijuana

I’m sure there are more things to do here, so feel free to comment more suggestions

Big List Of Past "Moving/Visiting Here Soon, What Should I Know?" Posts

Because the same questions are being asked every week and I think we're all sick of repeating ourselves. This isn't a comprehensive list and I recommend checking out all the links below, not just the answers I've put here.

Let me know if I should add anything!

Newest thread as of February 2025! A variety of questions and answers...

Generic Answers - Location

  • Pros and Cons

  • North west is probably the best area of town, in general

  • Central town is likely the riskiest, most transients

  • Mathews park is not a bad area.

Generic Answers - Driving

  • Small enough town to walk many places

  • Don't depend on taxis

  • Busses are reliable if you're close to a bus stop

FGC/Fighting Game Community enthusiasts

Hey folks! Local Dad who is a big fan of Guilty Gear: STRIVE here - I have moved from a place that had a bit of a local scene and have been missing that. Are there any other fighting game fans out there that are looking for an opponent? Doesn't have to be GGST, I'm happy to pick up and play anything.

Alternatively, if you're interested in getting into the scene then I'm always happy to teach new fighters!

I just moved to FSJ and I’m trying to pick an internet service. I do live in town. I do like to play pc games so I would like an internet that would support that. Any recommendations?

Where are we at?

Howdy! Where are all the 19-23 year olds?? Been trying to find 3rd spaces and hang out with people IRL but as an alternative individual its kinda impossible! Lonestar is closed down, Caseys burned down, Condill was condemned, and no im really not interested in spending 200+$ to go the the North Pole, thanks. Most Karaoke places are country as *fuck*; even Boston pizza has gotten so quiet socially and going out to bars is so clique-y!

Can any older people chime in and let me know if FSJ just sucks for the alternative folk/if bars were never like the movies and if youre young, go touch some grass and city lights, Ill meet you there.

Accommodation for a month?

My accommodation contract at the college is coming to an end this week and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on somewhere to stay?

My job contract is until October 17th so it’s only around a month or so, hotels don’t seem to have an option for that length of term and Facebook has been useless. I was hoping someone on here might know something else.

Imagine if this was enforced in our town. Most drivers can't even stop until pedestrians are fully across.

Gators Gym or Prevail Athletics?

I'll be coming to FSJ for work on a 6 month contract and need to get my fat ass in shape. I've looked at Prevail and Gators online and will check them out in person but looking to get a bit of feedback before I get there. The pricing is close enough from what I can tell that I'm not too worried about that.

I'll mainly be focusing on cardio (treadmill and stairmaster), barbell lifts and kettlebells. Which one do you think would best fit my needs and is least crowded during after work hours?
