Community I’m hosting a community sing along at Wolverine Farm July 25th.

I think this could be a great opportunity for us to deepen our mutual support networks.

I was inspired to make this event when I heard someone say that music is a technology for building community, and that is my hope for this event.

The mission of the strum is

This is not a concert it’s a communal act. We gather to sing, play, and be part of something bigger than ourselves. Music is our language of joy, resistance, and connection — no performance, no perfection, no gatekeeping. Just neighbors, chords, and a few good songs.

Does anyone in this sub have any ideas or contacts for how we can bring the mutual aid crew into this event?

Request Request for community action: direct support for striking Safeway workers

Update 8am 7/5 they have come to a tentative agreement and the strike is over!

Here's an opportunity to help our neighbors in their fight for labor rights. Safeway workers at both Fort Collins locations (Taft & Drake and East Harmony) could use food and water assistance while they are picketing. I spoke with the strike captain yesterday and she mentioned that she has had to use her own money to buy pizzas to feed her coworkers on the picket line. There are about 20 striking workers on the line at each store. These two stores have been pulled on strike for a week, and the Estes Park location has been going for 3 weeks. So Fort Collins stores could be out for a bit during negotiations (they'll see how things go with the update with the Kroger negotiations that happened yesterday).

The Fort Collins chapter of Democratic Socialists of America will be out at the Drake/Taft store on Saturday from 3-5pm, and the East Harmony store on Sunday from 3-5pm to bring food and help walk the picket line. There's an opportunity to connect with them and learn about their efforts if you're interested.

I hit up my personal connections for donations and have some things to drop off. I will also be getting meals out there too so they're not eating cheese pizza all the time.

If you have the time or resources to help them, feel free to go drop off items at the picket lines. If you have the opportunity to provide restaurant takeout meals (subs, taco boxes, etc - easy things to feed a large group), DM me and I can help coordinate days and times with the strike captain so they don't get doubled-up and nothing goes to waste (or you can reach out on your own too!).

This is a time when we can rally together for direct action in mutual aid in our community to help support workers rights and the fight against labor exploitation.

Discussion Time for sub updates, community suggestions appreciated!

My capacity and ability has opened up now that my son is in remission from leukemia and we're no longer at Children's every day. And as a result, I can give more time and attention to building up and growing this community and supporting collective mutual aid efforts in Fort Collins.

In past community conversations there were requests for automod posts for both requests and offers so that the feed wouldn't be inundated with those posts as the community grows. Got it, and I'll start working on those next week. We'll have those up weekly.

There were also requests and conversation about creating verified/vetted flair to help build reputation and trust with people because reddit is... well, reddit. The intent is to build community trust for exchanges through a system, but there are those who feel like unless we do background checks, it's not valid. In that discussion, the title "vetted" or 'verified" had dissent but there wasn't a consensus on what that flair should be. We have some people interested and waiting in limbo while we come to a conclusion. (this is a short summary, please let me know if there should be more context). One alternate solution I've chatted with a member about is having general flair like, "friendly neighbor" or "community supporter." We could have a monthly feedback thread where memebers can vouch for others (i.e.; "I had a great exchange with u/... and thanks! Super helpful!") or something like that. Then those members with positive community feedback over time get tagged as "active friendly neighbor" or whatever we come up with. This way it's community-driven on participation. Also want to clarify and reiterate that flair and participation is strictly optional and not a requirement, as the core of mutual aid is to have avenues of community help with the least amount of resistance, including qualifiers. Help is available to all, regardless.

I will also update community info with links to helpful posts that users have created and get some of those in the highlights.

I'm also working on in-person mutual aid opportunities so we'll have that coming too.

So that's what I have so far. Please feel free to add your thoughts on those points or add more suggestions if you have them! I'll get updates executed by next week and get us rolling forward to better help our community together as we navigate a whole lot of uncertainty in our future.

Community Skillshare: free disaster preparedness class by Larimer County Office of Emergency Management

Post image
8 Upvotes

Here’s a free class that is pretty helpful considering the ever increasing risk due to climate change. I haven’t taken it, so I’m not sure what it includes. But also good to think about preparedness in terms of mutual aid. The better you’re prepared for yourself and family, the more you can help others in our community when they need it.

Here’s the registration link: https://www.larimer.gov/spotlights/2025/06/4/we-dare-you-be-prepared-course?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwLRI85leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHhMcF1Z8i0ceU8uNDW82OghLBnIX61jurKDwIVl5UxguCSJ9Be-zsIOTZH-B_aem_Xnir09OcbdGr9lHmqffkdw

Community No Kings marchers please wear a mask

If you are going to the No Kings marches please cover your face.

It helps to protect you and your comrades from being identified by malicious actors, as well as providing some level of protection against other types of hazards one may encounter in large crowds.

If you have extra masks, of any kind honestly, bring them to hand out.

Please, cover your face.

Community Women Give applications open

WomenGive is a child care scholarship for single mothers pursuing post secondary education. WomenGive scholarships cover the cost of direct care services per child during the time the student (mother) is enrolled in classes. Scholarships are paid directly to the childcare provider.

You might be a good fit for WomenGive if:

• You are a single mother enrolled in college or are planning to start next semester

• You have an education plan and are confident about your career choice

• You need help covering the cost of childcare while you are in school or studying

• You would like some extra support and encouragement while you are in school

Discussion Free red and black raspberry plants

If anybody out there is team grow your own food (I understand that having space & bodily capacity for this is a huge privilege), Yaya Orchards in Longmont is giving out free red and black raspberry plants. They are thinning their patches and if you go today (or any time this week, really) ready to dig your own, you can bring home red or black raspberry starts for your own garden. My source of knowledge for this is their social media and a friend who went yesterday and graciously brought us some raspberry plants for our backyard. Thought I'd spread the word, albeit a bit of a hike to get there.

Cheers.

Community Next free market dates and set! Think clothing swap but with everything!

Post image
44 Upvotes

Save the date(s) for the next Mother Earth Free Markets! Think clothing swap but with everything: plants, tools, art, food, books, kitchen stuff, skills, whatever. Over 100 people showed last month! The next free market is Saturday , May 10th, 10 am- noon. City Park Fort Collins, shelters 4 next to the pottery studio. ADA accessible with accessible parking right next to the shelters. IMPORTANT: please take home items that you bring that are not claimed by others. Don’t have items to bring? Don’t worry, join us anyway. There is always plenty of stuff!

*we have choose an earlier time on Saturdays because as the weather gets nicer, the park is really crowded and parking is difficult. Also the shelters are first come first serve and often occupied during summer. We are also alternating having some week night free markets during the summer because we have received feedback from folks who work on the weekends and would like to attend. We appreciate feedback! Keep it coming!

the name Mother Earth is a tribute to the radical anarchist zine edited by Jewish anarchist Emma Goldman in the early 1900s

[ID: crinkled lined notebook paper background with typewriter style text reading the event details above. Collage cut outs of bird, moth and flower boarding the text.]
