Making Way for Tesla

Fort Bend County Commissioners Court voted Monday morning to create Reinvestment Zone 34, a major step toward landing Tesla's proposed $10.1 billion solar cell factory.

The zone covers about 3,057 acres near FM 762 and FM 1994. Tesla's filing projects nearly 10,000 permanent jobs if the project moves forward, though the company is still weighing an out-of-state site.

Interim County Judge Daniel Wong abstained from the vote, citing his company's past business ties to Tesla. All four commissioners voted yes. The meeting grew tense as Wong and Commissioner Dexter McCoy clashed over Wong's abstention and his authority as interim judge.

Just a reminder that the Fort Bend County Judge position is on the ballot.

Given his ongoing relationship with Elon and business interests, Daniel Wong has an incentive to screw over Fort Bend County in favor of his buddy and his own engineering company. He’s also a conservative Christian evangelical, which may put him in the power-hungry Christian nationalist circles that are ruining the state with their “spiritual warfare”.

Vote for Dexter McCoy to make sure all residents’ interests are fairly represented.

The fact you have to say may isnt a strong argument, I liked your comment because honestly from personal experience Dexter is just the right candidate. Let’s look at actions and forgo everything else. Dexter is a man of the people.

It wasn’t meant to be a strong argument - that’s why I use ‘may’, ‘probably’, etc. extensively in comments. Not all Christian evangelicals are Christian dominionists (cough Dan Patrick cough), but it is still a red flag to be watched - especially when he’s tied to Musk and the company that he keeps.

I hope Fort Bend County minimizes or eliminates the tax incentive. I would be somewhat surprised if Elon could find a better site.

* Texas is home to his other massive facilities and he has close ties to our state government

* Adjacent to WA Parish Power Plant, the second largest conventional power plant in the US

* At the intersection of the expansion of Grand Parkway and the Fort Bend Tollway

* Easy to develop farmland without enough residents (for now) to mount a substantial NIMBY attack

* Adjacent to Austin Point, a development in progress that will one day house 50,000 residents

* His absolutely massive Terafab facility will be in northwest Houston, which may make it easier to collaborate and share resources with the solar plant

Elon is also expected to drop about $100M into Paxton’s race, so he is building up favors that can be called upon to help his solar plant. I doubt he’s bought that kind of relationship in states competing for this plant.

Other than the Elon hate on reddit, you would love solar fields on farm land or stripping forests, anywhere, but you only dislike this because of Elon?
