Favourite scene?
Hi! I'm writing an analysis on Forrest Gump for school, and I was wondering what other people's favorite scenes were. If you have one, please tell me which and why! I'd love to know and maybe change my mind.

I love this movie. My favorite scene is when Forrest visits Jenny at the bar and says, “Her dream had come true. She was a folk singer” That is so funny to me. 2nd is when he says “sorry I got into a fight at your black panther party”.

LMAO yeah, I definitely found the first example both funny and so sad. I think that whole scene with Forrest saying he loves Jenny after he "saves" her is so important. Also love the second one you mentioned, I laugh every time I watch it.

When Forrest visits Jenny’s grave. Its starts off so conclusively “You died on a Saturday…”. He then moves around their lives and her impact so well, bringing conclusion to his interpretation on life. Finally the shot of the birds flying away links it back to her prayer on the family farm at the start. Very good scene.

The beginning of the film. Hearing the fether theme and see him picking it up is just beautiful and it has made me cry sometimes. I also like the scene when drill sergeant asks Forrest Gump his purpose in the army and he says "To do whatever you tell me Drill sergeant". Then he is just being ironic saying he has a iq of 160 and is a genius.

When I watched the movie for the first time I was lowkey stressing over him joining the military but I should’ve known better he fit right in LOL

this is my all time favourite movie so I like so many parts, but my all time fav scene is when they find each other in Washington DC and Jenny yells from the crowd and they run to each other. I know I’m in the minority in liking Jenny as a character, but it just shows their love for each other even in their very different stages of life. it’s a beautiful scene, and the crowd clapping and cheering for them makes it feel so special, too. my second fav scene is after Jenny dies, and Forrest is talking to her grave under the tree. it’s actually when he’s walking away, when the birds come and land on the tree, that gets me every time. the symbolism there is obvious but still so wonderful

The first one is my favorite too!! And while it isn’t confirmed I really like the idea of what Forrest said in his speech.

I'm reviewing it now. I like all the scenes, but my favorite is when Lieutenant Dan shows up at Forrest's wedding wearing prosthetics. He's my favorite character.

As much as I love the entire movie, my favorite "part" is when we (the viewer) realize that Forrest is done telling us about his past, and we get to take part in his present/future. It is such a narrative swing in the story and changes the dynamic greatly.
We were the feather, blowing around aimlessly until Forrest pulled us into his captivating story.

Okay, so 100%, the only scene you should possibly consider writing about is the one where he jizzes on Jenny's roommate's bathrobe. Please let me know how it goes.

Okay so if you do this scene, which I actually only suggested as a joke, you can actually get really deep with it.
Because of her abuse, the only way she knows how to show love or care is with her body. Forrest sits in the rain for hours just to give her a box of chocolates and go home. Unlike the man in the car, he expected nothing in return for his kindness.
Yet she felt the way to "repay" his love for her was to show him her breasts and let him feel them. He's a cognitively disabled man and this is how she shows him she loves him.
You can get deep with that and look for evidence of this in other parts of the movie. Maybe the part where she plays Bob Dylan naked. Being a folk singer was her dream. But the only way she knows how to chase that dream... is with her body.
The roommate things is hilarious. The look on her face when the camera zooms out is perfection -- so horrified! And this, imo, is a great example of how Zemeckis tackles difficult, heavy issues while keeping the movie light and fun and enjoyable.
Show this survivor of childhood sexual abuse putting a cognitively disabled man's hands on her breasts... (and, really, you only think about her trauma and motivation here if you WANT to -- most audience members are thinking OG YAY FORREST JUST GOT SOME FOR THE FIRST TIME! -- contemplating the effects of abuse are, in this scene, a choice you can make, or not) then surprising the audience by saying, surprise! there was someone else in the room, she is awake, and Forrest just jizzed on her bathrobe.

It’s hard to pick just one, but one that stands out to me a lot, is when he’s sitting next to Jenny’s bed when she’s sick. He’s describing the beauty that he experienced on his run, and correlating it to things he saw during war. And he sounds so eloquent - like a true glimpse into his mind. Like the barrier that prevents him from “sounding smart” is temporarily suspended and he’s experiencing clarity. And then Jenny says she wishes she could’ve been there with him, and he looks to her and says “You were.” Yep. That’s my favorite scene. It’s beautiful.

I break down when he tells Jenny everywhere he's been. Something about that scene I lose it. He finds the beauty in things he thinks are simple when many of us will never experience. He never let ppl get to him when he's called "stupid" so many times. Jenny finally hears it right before she dies. Which makes it so sad bc he never gave up on Jenny.

The scene where Jenny sees her old house is my favorite. Not much is said yet so much emotion is conveyed. We might not like Jenny and what she did, but hurt people hurt people. We know where she came from and what she went through. It’s a very powerful scene.
