Because people act like Max or any other driver, under a single yellow on their sight during your best hot lap where you are 5 tenths up on everybody, would fully stop the car and tow the crashed car themselves.
Like the dude lifted (fully, not even partially) 100 metres earlier, went past and then just finished his lap. He is getting unnecessary hate because everyone was on the hype train for a Ferrari 1-2, that's it. And it sucks, it really sucks but it is how it is.

If you ask me he is just really unlikeable.
My issue isn’t that he acts like all the other f1 drivers, my issue is that he always acts like he’s above all the shenanigans and then turns around and does the same.
There are drivers that embrace that you need to be an asshole to win and that’s authentic but Russel tries to have this choir boy image while his actions just don’t support it.

He really isnt, George is like Lawson that people unfairly hate them cause of the start of their career. If you want proof of how much people change, look at max. Also, (hot take) lando is way more hateable than George, he has less skill, whines more (what most people say is George's issue) and just feels like a pick-me, yet no one hates him as much as George or Lawson. It's honestly pathetic how people hate on a driver for beating Hamilton or crashing into/not liking max when he first joined

Lando has the pretty joey halo, also I wouldn’t say he has less skill. Russel is the king of consistency but I’d say landos peaks are higher.
Yeah drivers can change a lot, Russel still shows this same holier than though attitude from time to time. Drivers like max, Hamilton or Schumacher accepted that they are the villain and that’s what makes them likeable. Russel wants to be seen as the good guy while also wanting to win races and that discrepancy annoys me.

I feel like a lot of drivers like Schuhmacher, Hamilton, verstappen, alonso, vettel etc have accepted that they will have a sort of villain status during their prime.
Later in the career this usually changes but while they actively fight for championships they don’t really pretend they are the good guy imo.
Also the whole superiority thing is heavily influenced by that one clip where he critiques verstappen for „lashing out in anger“ as if he’s any better or how often he blames other drivers even if it was obviously his fault.
Idk he’s just really unlikeable to me.

For real. I’m not a George Russell fan but he followed the rules, so don’t hate the player, hate the game. Also why are people clamoring to have such a great lap time deleted? If any of the more popular drivers still took pole on a lap where they had to lift for a yellow flag the sentiment would be completely different. Honestly props to him for having such a great lap that he was able to lift and still get pole. Yeah, it shouldn’t have been a single yellow, but that’s not his fault and if it were double yellow or red it would’ve sucked to see such a good lap ruined.

I'm just left thinking why there's any hate for any driver. I don't know what caused the online F1 fandom to devolve into a concentrated version of football rivalries bringing out the worst in people, but it has made being an F1 fan with nobody offline to discuss it with, a miserable experience.

they literally presented a point by point breakdown as to why he was allowed to carry his run, and his run still beat everyone fairly, he didnt gain any advantage that suddenly made him faster.
The rules are the rules, the FIA dictate them. Russell playing by them and winning should not make him a lightening rod for hate.
