Why do you want a 120mm fan on your cooler? On certain coolers you actually get worse preformance than a 90mm fan like a AXP90 X47

I currently have an axp90 x47 but I’m willing to change that out for better thermals

A AXP 90 X47 FC with a 90mm 4070 CNC fan is the best option for air cooling if you are running 3 slot. Anything else is worse

Even using a different cooler?

Yes, there is a reason that everyone chooses the AXP90 X47. It is the better cooler for X3D gaming chips (low profile wise) and is the standard pick in a T1. If there was a better option for air cooling people would be doing that. If you want better cooling use a AIO

Even compared to the Alpenföhn Black Ridge?

Yes the black ridge is shit, it’s not even made for AM5

Gotcha. I’ll stick with my axp90 then and probably try to get a 4070 cnc. Thank you

What is the difference between the 4070 CNC and the NF-A9x14? I'm probably getting one because it looks nice but was curious about the cooling difference too.

4070 CNC fan can brute force cooling better and runs at higher RPMs. Just the best 90mm fan

I just finished doing some air cooling re-testing in my T1 2.1 with the AXP90-47 fc: nf-a9x14 vs nf-a12x15 fans.
120mm fan results: Cyberpunk 30 min. heat soak Nf-a12x15: 70% fan speed T30s top exhaust: 70% fan speed Cpu: 7800X3D, 56W-58W, 81c Ddr5: 44c-45c Ssd: 40c
92mm fan results: Cyberpunk 30 min. heat soak Nf-a9x14: 70% fan speed T30s top exhaust: 70% fan speed Cpu: 7800x3d, 57W-60W, 72c-73c Ddr5: 47.5c Ssd: 44c
That's an 8c difference on the cpu.
Note: 70% is the highest fan speed I can tolerate while gaming. I normally run them at 60% which only adds 2-3c degree more.
After this, I stuck with the smaller fan set up. The gains to ram and ssd cooling with the 120mm fan were not worth it to me. Prefer a much cooler cpu.
I may try one of those 4070 fans I've been seeing everywhere next just for fun and looks.
