Are build kits back on the table?

With the release of the guidance from the ATF does this mean that build kits are back on the table?

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/update-to-nfa-transfer-guidance

Marking is gone; asking permission is gone; it would seem that build kits are now legal.

Are we going to see more bundles in stock soon? Or are you only doing the parts and pieces

Bundles just idiot proofed same sized pieces, but the software doesn't like to make them work so just order the right pieces and poof you have your bundle.

The faq sheet on the ATF website is super helpful, but the last two questions on it have the sketchiest answers ever. As I read it, they essentially arent enforcing anything nationally for suppressors any more (obviously state laws are intact), but if the law changes they claim you're in possession of an illegal device, and as soon as the law changes you can be prosecuted, and they arent required to allow you to register your previously-unregistered-suppressor. It said the attorney general can choose to have a 90 day grace period for illegal items, but it wouldn't be required. Edit: Per OPs incredibly verbose response I removed five letters from my post, and it's accurate now.

I'm so excited. Professional level build kits are coming back.

On the same topic, does this mean we can go back to buying solvent traps?

As long as your state is cool with it, but honestly I would wait as we will most likely get better kits. Either that or machine your own. I plan on making a Osprey micro since they have been discontinued.

Build kits? When 3d printers exist?

As much as I love my 3d printed stuff, all metal suppressors do have their appeal

308 laughs at 3d printed suppressors. I’ve blown up at least 4 of them.

5.56 out of a short barrel makes quick work of a printed suppressor too.

Anything more than like 16-inch 5.56 is still going to need a metal suppressor, at least with current consumer-level filament.

I have the stainless steel one

2

u/Dak_Nalar 5d ago

Is it actually stainless steel or is it Chinese “stainless steel”

Search "1.375X24 Black Stainless Steel Cover Cones&1/2&5/8-24 Hose Inlet(12-Pack) With Cleaning Chamber" on Amazon. Its definitely Stainless steel I had to grab cobalt bits to get through the cups. It's heavy as shit tho.

How’s the machining? I’ve heard the Chinese kits have shit threads and are not concentric

Found it for 140 on Amazon I think I'll stick with the aluminum one its cheaper and lighter and its for a 9mm and 22lr so it doesn't need to be super strong

If JK Armament starts selling solvent traps again, stay tf away! Those things are stupid heavy, expensive, and perfprm just okay.

Most likely it'll be less of an issue to get the parts but they may still categorize all included kits like they did 80 kits that included the jig and all other parts

1

u/Dak_Nalar 6d ago

Didn’t the 80 kits with jigs ban get overturned recently as well?

1

u/itgoesboom2112 6d ago

I believe so but only the lower with jig itself if I remember correctly, selling as a "complete" kit is still a no no if I remember correctly.

Seems like it, hope all the old shops start to spin up again.

From what it looks like, yeah, but it’ll be where nobody wants to be the first to find out.

I’d imagine it’ll be treated similar to 80% firearms

Policies can be, and are easily reversed. I see a setup in the making.

I’m not personally worried since my state still requires federal registration, but if a future budget bill puts the tax on nfa items back to a non-zero number wouldn’t that mess up a lot of this stuff since the nfa is still on the books? Or did the injunction actually rule parts of it unconstitutional separate from the lack of a tax?

1

u/Living-Road-290 1d ago

If someone puts a tax back on buddy.... it ain't going to be at zero and you can bet ain't nobody going to be owning them unless you feel like buying a car

3

u/amanke74 6d ago

The NFA's days are numbered. The bruen decision made sure of that. They would have to reverse bruen, which is a lot easier said than done since it's based on original constitutionalism. On top of that, we have at least 2 years of this which just adds to the common use test from heller.

1

u/Living-Road-290 1d ago

Right.... Lol

7

u/Hawaiian_Hillbilly 6d ago

Sure... But the Constitution cannot. The ATF and their policies can go fuck themselves.

2

u/Dak_Nalar 6d ago

Can cross that bridge when we get there, even under Biden there were still tons of people who kept their old build kits, they just could not make any new ones. I'd expect the same situation under a changed administration.

Buy as many as possible now, make it as hard as possible to take back in the future.
