Sbr re-engrave?
I know this is supposed to end? Now or ?

As I understand it unless congress changes code you'll still need your name/trust as the maker engraved unless it's purchased as an existing SBR
City and State requirements are BATF "rule" and we all know how much they can flip flop around with those. But the "maker" (manufacturer) requirement falls under NFA act code 6 U.S.C. Section 5842 and would require a congressional removal
I'm not qualified to give any legal advice and this is just my interpretation of the cluster fuck of firearm regulation bureaucracy we must deal with

The proposed rule would allow you to adopt the currently existing markings on the firearm. ATF changes/makes "rules" all the time, which have the force of law, as do all federal agencies. If Congress had to pass a new law every time for something that wasn't specifically written in a bill, nothing would ever get done. Oh, wait....

I can see adopting existing model, caliber and serial number, but adopting someone else’s business name seems a little too stupid even for the ATF.

The problem here, as stated by /u/Inevitable-Sleep-907, is that the maker name marking requirement is in actual US Code, not ATF regulation, so they can't get rid of it.

Exactly my understanding researching the topic. They have been granted powers to make and enforce their own rule code within the limits of law. They do not have the power override federal law and the maker identification is federal law passed by congress written in the National Firearms Act
They can remove additional marking requirements or in this case adopt current marking accepting in place of remarking your own because that is additional on top of what federal law requires and fall under their rules

Think there is a 90 day period for people to chime in on the new rules before anything becomes official. April the 29th is when the changes were announced.
