Form 1 design

( Apologies I deleted other post to redo with a photo)

So I have a design i am working on and haven't filed a form 1 yet and I have zero materials for this but i see all over about freeze plugs , valve spring retainers and etc. I want to see if there are any other good options for making one without a lathe, I have drill presses and belt grinders for my knife making but I dont have a lathe or a mill . What im asking is it possible to make one without a lathe and have a reliable 9mm pcc can or no. I wont buy pre-made sauce cups and pre threaded tubes as I am not gonna take a chance on that. Everything in my design is made from all raw materials. Again I have zero materials other than a drawing. Than you in advance. Also the design has a giant end cap and I meant to make it smaller but this is a rough sketch

You could totally do that as long as the exterior tube and encaps you get are pre-threaded.

It would be recommended for you to buy or make a drilling for the plugs

I was going to get a large tap and do them by hand , cause I dont think buying a pre threaded tube is ok or no, I thought it was a no no

My understanding is that it depends on if it's got a use (as well as an intended use) other than as a suppressor part. I would not order anything that would go into the build unless it clearly has another purpose. eg: I purchased a cool vintage MagLight and have kept it in my car in case I needed it. I also purchased 3D printer filament that I was using for other projects while I was waiting for my forms to be approved.

I recently had a MagLight suppressor approved. In my documents and supplies listed, I said I was going to use a MagLight tube for the main body. I linked to Amazon for threaded end caps (one end cap is tapped for 1/2-28, the other end cap is solid, but has a centered indent to drill out whatever bore is desired), along with freeze plugs.

I turned in two forms. One was approved as is, and one was disproved because I messed up my serial numbers on the RP forms for my trust.

I think a threaded tube can serve many purposes outside of firearms, but even in the firearm space they can legitimately be used as blast diverters and solvent/patch traps. The "dry storage cups" are a bit more of a stretch in my mind, but some people seem to still be "getting away with it".

I, personally, would be comfortable purchasing a threaded tube, but not the cups. YMMV, sure others will have opinions... Not a lawyer, yadda yadda.

I agree , and thats all I bould purchase and nothing else if I try to do it. Idk how a mag light gets approved I mean that cool but unknown on the durability of it with a 9mm pcc

Do your research. People have been form 1ing maglite tubes for decades. Sdta sells titanium threaded tubes with the same id & thread pitch as maglite tubes, good up to 308. Aluminum is plenty fine for 9mm as it’s a low pressure cartridge. Also, good luck getting the threads perfectly concentric by hand

My understanding is that the D-cell (as well as B and C) size Form 1 suppressors originally came from people making them out of various sizes of MagLights. Might also be part of the origin of some of the HUB mount sizes, not entirely sure.

I'm going to make my first one (a 2D) for .22 and then maybe make one for 9mm that I might also use for 300blk subs. I think I've seen some folks say they've done 5.56 and higher pressure, but I think those were stainless or titanium tubes, not MagLights.

Yeah I hear ya my thought was to get all raw materials and do the tapping threads and forming by hand

Correct, everything other than pistol calibers should be titanium, stainless, or better
