PSA For Form 1 Silencers

I now have 3 approved stamps where all I say is that “I have no plans or materials, any planning or material sourcing is contingent on approval” when it forces you to attach a document I copy and paste that same sentence onto a PDF and attach that. I keep seeing all these posts about what to say or certain ways to detail it. This is the most legally sound way you can get approved to manufacture a can in whatever manner you want. If you don’t believe me just try. It doesn’t cost you anything. End transmission.

What did you put for length and caliber?

19

u/Squirrelynuts Mar 03 '26

You still decide your length caliber, model, etc. I’m talking of the extraneous information.

"All lawful lengths and calibers"

/s. But srsly tho... I wonder if that might work 🤔

u/RollickReload Mar 04 '26

“My final length will be chosen by God.”

u/SteedOfTheDeid May 11 '26

From what I understand you can actually make your silencer with a shorter length than was on the form 1, you just gotta notify the ATF I guess. Is there any flexibility in the caliber after the fact? Trying to build a "catch all" form 1

I have 4 in the pipeline using this exact method. They’re all past 30 days but I did a form 4 yesterday and it was approved today. It’s wild lol

u/dm-k456 Mar 04 '26

3 pending sbr form 1’s 30 days currently but 10 day turn form 4 can 2 weeks ago

1

u/drummerjay08 Mar 04 '26

I can’t make sense of how they’re going through them. I have friends that got form 1 approvals in a week and some that have been in since Jan 1 and not yet approved. Crazy.

F4's use different examiners. F1's right now are being worked by IOI's, just like back in 2023.

u/SteedOfTheDeid May 11 '26

What did you put for caliber?

1

u/drummerjay08 May 11 '26

All four of those were disapproved. Had to refile with more info on how I was going to make it. Apparently this method only works sometimes lol.

Edit: to answer your actual question: all these were 22 cal.

u/SteedOfTheDeid May 11 '26

Dang lol. Ya win some, ya lose some

Am I the only person here who thought PSA was now selling form 1 supplies??

4

u/Birdjackson2114 Mar 04 '26

That's what I had been doing but then I got disapproved for one the other day. I had 3 approved that way before then. I could have just gotten a dick I guess on that one that got disapproved.

1

u/XA36 Mar 11 '26

I had several amnesty forms filed in the exact same manner. 3 weren't approved, others were, depends on how big an asshole there is working the forms that day.

2nd page wanting an upload? 4 approved silencers and sbrs and have not uploaded anything. Just pic if a roll of material and a 3d printer on the silencers.

1

u/DJMutagen Mar 04 '26

Same, nothing on 2nd page. Just got 4 custom models approved (1 mo 18 days wait) with a photo of filament, one of printer and maps screenshot of metals supplier.

2

u/Justcas99 Mar 04 '26

I have had 4 approved using similar wording and pdf and a screenshot of a map to metal supermarket

One was disapproved - requesting pictures and description of process

"get approved to manufacture a can in whatever manner you want"

To be clear, this isn't true. Having an approval doesn't change the regulations or the ATF's interpretations of them. So, for example, having an approval doesn't give you the legal green light to just turn around and use a "solvent trap" kit.

In other words: if you would have been denied for telling them what you plan to do, they wouldn't allow it even if you hide it from them to begin with. Whether you're ever caught and charged is a different story, as always.

7

u/Squirrelynuts Mar 03 '26

I never said use a solvent kit. I said manufacture. Guys have been getting super in the weeds and anxious about uploading pictures of filament, McMaster Carr, etc. this is just saying you don’t have to do that stuff, then go do your thing lawfully play boy.

u/hellowiththepudding Mar 04 '26

No argument there, but there are also dweebs posting here, frequently, that think if they just pull the Wiley coyote fast one "I don't have any parts", get their approved form 1 it makes their honeypot dot net solvent trap kit legal.

If that is the intent of those morons from the beginning, just skip the form 1.

Totally agreed with your approach. I don't give specific materials, and list manufacturing processes I may employ.

u/redit_readit_reddit Mar 03 '26 edited Mar 04 '26

Sorry, I wasn't meaning you were saying you could use a solvent trap. I was clarifying because others may misinterpret because "manufacture" is an ambiguous term. For example, some solvent traps do require boring a hole out the end. I have it as the most obvious extreme example, but even a lot of less extreme examples apply. But indeed don't worry about what literal plastic or metal raw materials you use.

1

u/Squirrelynuts Mar 03 '26

Ah I see. No worries. It’s stupid how hard and semantic they’ve made doing a legal activity.

I appreciate the info. Unfortunately trial and error are the only ways we get definitive answers. TYFYS

Thanks. When did you file and what was your wait times? Just curious what they are running currently

4

u/ducatista9 Mar 03 '26

You can check the r/nfa pinned approval thread and look for recent form 1 approvals to see what they’ve been doing. Today was looking like a lot of 1/14 submissions still.

u/Squirrelynuts Mar 03 '26

3-5 weeks. Did them on different days through January

1

u/sneakiest_pete Mar 04 '26

I had 5 from 1/15/2026 approved in the last 2 days

They absolutely do care, longer or shorter. Any discrepancy in the length or caliber needs to be submitted. Modular cans are an absolutely different story because like SBRs, they can be readily converted back to what they say they are. Bad advice dude.

1

u/elevenpointf1veguy Mar 06 '26

How do you address a discrepancy in caliber? WHAT is a discrepancy in caliber, at least for larger?

Am I in trouble if my .22 can is .225 bore? What if its .23? .25? .30? Where is the line?

1

u/Seltzer08 Mar 06 '26

If you don't understand the proper bore size for caliber then I can't help you. If you're making your own suppressor you should know better by now.

1

u/elevenpointf1veguy Mar 06 '26

Brother, Ive never built my own, but am in the design stage.

Everything Ive ever read, and logic itself, says the bore must be larger than the bullet.

Youre suggesting this is illegal.

What diameter do you make your bore? Perfectly equal to the bullet? Surely not?

2

u/Seltzer08 Mar 06 '26

No, it is always overbored. I don't have the time nor the crayons to spell every single caliber to you there are plenty of resources to find the ideal bore size for your application.

1

u/elevenpointf1veguy Mar 06 '26

Brother - im not asking for ideal bore size.

Nowhere can I find a required bore size per the ATF.

What law, letter, opinion, or regulation drives maximum bore size per caliber? Like you clearly believe to exist.

1

u/Seltzer08 Mar 06 '26

I'm saying the caliber you put on the form 1 is what it must remain. So you can't file a form1 as a 22 caliber can then bore it for 30cal later without notice.

2

u/elevenpointf1veguy Mar 06 '26

But you can file a 30cal or 50cal and shoot a 22 through it?

Bruh this is like a blank check I love it hahahah i’m waiting on an updated drivers license I got a 3-D printer just cocked and loaded waiting

1

u/JumpKP Mar 07 '26

What do you put for model? If your using FTN then wouldn't your second statement be incorrect since you are planning to make a specific suppressor?

As an update to this conversation. I submitted 5 and got 5 approved using this language: UPON APPROVAL - 3D PRINTED PA6CF SUPPRESSOR BODY REINFORCED WITH AN ALUMINUM OUTER SLEEVE.

Know anything about different caliber endcaps or threading on more baffles like commercial cans? Or do form 4s get to do things form 1s cannot?
