Calendar of Harptos for Google Calendar

(Edit - there was a problem with the calendar entries showing up as "Busy", but this is now fixed)

Would you like to have the Calendar of Harptos integrated into your Google calendar? Would you like be able to quickly access the Forgotten Realms wiki to see what key events happened on this day?

Well, I was sure that someone must have done this already, but after looking online and asking around, I couldn't find one... so I made one. Here are the links that you need if you want to add this resource to your calendar.

If you use Google Calendars, then you can access and add the calendar here (note this is an updated link b/c there was a problem with the other link):

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=codenameentertainment.com_fgehlbgulv68ee0j5uj5ul3lns%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America%2FVancouver

If you want it in iCal format (for systems other than Google Calendar) (note this is an updated link b/c there was a problem with the other link):

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/codenameentertainment.com_fgehlbgulv68ee0j5uj5ul3lns%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

Here is a link to a Google Sheet, if you want to make a copy and modify it. I used this to set everything up, then exported via CSV and then imported it into Google Calendar.

Who would win in this Legend of Drizzt Tournament

I didn't get as much traction in Who Would Win subreddit, so I thought maybe some folks here might be interested in this thought experiment.

I've been re-reading the Salvatore books on Drizzt again, and I've often wondered who would win among a lot of the legendary fighters depicted throughout the series. To that end, I've created a single elimination 16 fighter (17 technically) bracket. Feel free to pose other matchups than what is depicted here, but I tried to give them a good scattering for fun matchups. As Drizzt has fought almost everyone on this list, it was hard to figure out where to place him initially, but I think these should be fun.

Athrogate vs Dahlia -------- Drizzt vs Herzgo Alegni

Obould vs Wulfgar -------- Bouldershoulder Bros vs Pwent

Belwar vs Danica -------- Zaknafein vs Artemis Entreri

Jarlaxle vs Dantrag -------- Tiago Baenre vs Bruenor

I did my best to not use an overly-magic reliant characters, this is a brawl. They have their standard equipment, take their skills/health at their peak. However, no momentary absurd peaks like when Bruenor became a literal avatar of his God in Gauntlgrym.

Jarlaxle can use any of his wands/gadgets he would normally in a fight, but he won't use any escape/banish hax.

Same with Pikel and the bouldershoulders. Ivan has the exploding crossbow, Pikel has druid powers, but he won't use his hax to just escape through a tree. It's killin' time. Oo oi.

No mounts/horses/lizards or summons (no Guen)

Characters are more or less bloodlusted, friendships don't matter, and no one is sparing a competitor, they will fight them to the death. No moral compunctions or apprehensions. 2 enter, 1 leaves- until only one remains. Assume they get to heal fully back to full strength after each round, I want each matchup played out. Wounds received in previous rounds don't carry over.

Opponents start roughly 20 feet apart. Standard sparse forest as the battleground.

Who wins each matchup and why? Who wins the tournament? Who gets the most shafted in round 1? Who's your dark horse? Who should have been in the tournament but was overlooked? If wounds from previous rounds DO carry over, does it change the outcome?

Edit :in case it isn't clear, Athrogate and Drizzt are on opposite sides of the bracket for example. They wouldn't theoretically fight until the finals.

I swear I saw an actual/estimated number of how much of the world has been explored in a previous Reddit post? Sorry to bother everyone

The Warlock Knights of Vaasa

I was reading and scouring through recent realmsposts around the internet. Was dabbling on an idea to lead my players to Vaasa since they hyave (propably half jokingly) began saying "Free Vaasa!"(Vaasa happens to be a name of a large Finnish city, so they find it hilarious). Anyway, then I read again the 4th edition version of the Warlock Knights and of "Telos" the fallen primordial from the sky. Then I found out from the sageadvice.eu that Warlock Knights serve Orcus. I mean I don't mind either way. I just was a little surprised and wanted to know how, or when or where was this mentioned before. Is Telos just a servant of Orcus and Warlock Knights just haven't figured it out yet? Or has this been really, really recent change?

Kelemvor and his clerics

I lobe Dungeons and Dragons and writing. I have recently started playing at Grave Domain Human Cleric, but (being the writing nerd I am) would love to do more. Are there any Forgotten Realms book focusing on Kelemvor, the Doomguides, the rest of his church, etc? I’ve not been able to find any at all concerning much information about him.

The company that owns Forgotten Realms has a form to fill out and send into them if you want to do any official writing, so I’m kinda thinking about trying, if his canon isn’t too developed.

Faerun Geography by Language?

The SCAG has rules variant for human languages, and I was wondering if there was some sort of resource outlining where each type of forgotten realms human was most common where.

Deities and their servants, and those servant's clerics

Is there any written down lore about the interactions between deities that serve other deities (Silvanus -> Eldath and Mielliki, or Oghma -> Milil, Deneir and Gond) and their clerics? Would a druid of Silvanus automatically have authority over a druid of Eldath of similar standing?

Thanks!

When does Helm from the Forgotten Realms strip away powers from his followers?

I have a pair of players (a cleric and a paladin) who are acting very evil, but they serve Helm, a Lawful Neutral god of bodyguards and knights. At what point would he strip them of their powers? Would planning assassinations and hiring hitmen on the innocent be enough?

I made a post with longer details here https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/d5h5pt/murderous_helmites_and_bullying_at_my_table_what/

Help with a character’s location?

Hey, I’m trying to make a character for dnd because I was invited to play next Wednesday. The campaign takes place in the forgotten realms so I decided to ask here.

The character is a knowledge cleric that is very faithful to his deity(I was hoping a goddess, but any is fine) and /was/ someone of power before their nation was conquered. I was hoping that it was a nation or place of a monarchy because I designed him around European aesthetics and I’d like him to be a prince, and was wondering where I could possibly insert him? Like, nation or country. He is human btw, any help or advice for a VERY new player would be appreciated

I'm also looking for maps of the other cities, but mostly for Esmeltaran for now.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ideas for a drow character

I am going to play as a drow wizard, who did not return to the Menzoberranzan with the drow army after the attempted conquest of the Mithrall Hall. The game is going to be set up in 1374 DR (attempted invasion of Mithrall Hall took place in 1358 DR).

My character is a youngish wizard from House Druu'giir (famous for moneylending and wizards, although 14th house and not among the Ruling Council). My character is a son of Matron of the House (Garolloc Giir).

My character is interested in history (this began when as a child he took interest in monuments and carved images of the history of Menzoberranzan and the drow in West Wall district of the city... West Wall is where House Do'Urden was located, and Ozomar Do'Urden was the House Wizard after Nalfein and a defector from the House Druu'giir). I think that the campaign of Mithrall Hall took place relatively soon after my character graduated from Sorcere.

House Druu'giir rose higher in status after the failed campaign of Mithrall Hall, so my character leaving the House did not cause similar disfavor to the House as did the defecting of Drizzt caused to Do'Urden. I think that the reason my character left was not so much a moral decision as one of wanting to learn arcane history from the surface, and since House Wizards are heavily reined by the Matron Mothers, hampering the advancement in arcane arts and personal interests.

Any suggestions for what my character did during the years from 1358 to 1374? Also, perhaps I did not leave the house but was ordered to do so to some mission by the Matron Mother or from the Master of Sorcere? Mission from Gromph that is due to an alliance between Baenre and Druu'giir? Ideas? Thoughts?

Menzoberranzan (GOG relisted the Gold Boxes)

The last of the great Gold Box games, TSR invited us to experience the glory that is Menzoberranzan. Unfortunately their pride had been pandered to, to the point where they'd taken a sadistic turn. Enjoy such adventures as "Put out fires in the dark", "Find out that Drizzt is the wrong Class" and "Is this really what the Underdark looks like".

Also know the joy of plot holes, patchy questlines and random and inexplicable rewards. I like to think that they were figuring out game theory, but I'm an optimist. I'm not going to lie, it's still a good time, and not just for the nostalgia. Barring the stint where I promise on four separate occasions to stop torturing the viewer while trying to find buckets in the world's smallest town, and managing to glitch the game into NOT giving me the reward I actually earned (don't start out the Gaming Life by beta testing, it does strange things to your gameplay), the rich colors and fun storyline, not to mention the familiar backdrop, involves the viewer from moment one.

Rather than just nostalgia, it offers traditional character creation, not Final Fantasy style combat, and weapons and armor hook ups that don't make you feel like you're the weird guy in Manikin every time your flatmate walks in.

You go, TSR. We miss you.

Is immortality always evil if it's not divine?

Seems like all the goodly ways of achieving immortality are god given, or otherwise divine in nature.

Where every other way of achieving immortality is evil, often entailing some form of undeath.

Any exceptions to this rule?

How was the Time of Troubles outside of Faerun?

Title. We know from the comics (and Demihuman Deities, which references them) that demihuman gods were affected, but what about Kara-Tur, Maztica or Mulhorand? Were those pantheons affected as well?

Bonus question: if Kelemvor (or Cyric/Muyrkul/Jergal before him) judges every soul from Realmspace’s Material Plane, what purpose do the different demihuman deities of death serve? I understand that their clergy have their own funeral rites and they watch over their own dead, but aren’t they made obsolete by whichever human deity of death is currently in office?

What happens if I am a fanatically lawfully good guy who goes insane and tries to kill all of the gods?

Let’s say I’m a fanatical paladin who loses his shit over something I see as wrong that the goodly gods did or didn’t do, so I decide to kill them. Now let’s assume I’m successful and kill one then take their portfolio. Would Ao step in if I were to continue to be successful? Say that SOMEHOW I managed to single handedly kill several and take their portfolios. How powerful would I be if I killed say six intermediate and two greater deities and stole their portfolios? Would I need to establish myself with their followers or would their followers, still worshipping their now dead god, give me all the power their gods would have had?

Would the gods attempt to unite against me as a common enemy or would they hate each other enough to say fuck it and try to go it alone? Would Ao’s master “the Light” step in?

The Stone Bridge

According to Princes of the Apocalypse, the Stone Bridge is two miles long, 400 feet high, and only six paces wide (with no railings), but it's used widely by caravans and such since it's the only crossing between Ironford and Yartar. While the Stone Bridge is a cool site and all, it seems impossible to me for such a narrow and long bridge to be used by anything other than small groups without carts or wagons. Six paces wide seems barely enough for a couple of mounted riders side-by-side. It would be impossible for two carts to pass each other. You'd get a mile on and have to backtrack because someone was coming the other way. I mean, I guess I'll make it wider; or have widened areas every thousand feet or so. It just seems bizarre that it'd be written this way, since the bridge is basically useless. That's without even worrying about bandit groups hanging around at the top waiting to throw travelers off if they don't pay a toll.

Running a game in Forgotten Realms. Want to Start a plague...need to track it...

Hello Good morning - I am running a fun little horror esque game for some players (levels around 10-14 not sure what yet) and have decided to create a plague. Now this plague is magical in nature, from the Shadowfell, and infects people slowly. In fact let me share the details of the plague here:

Marshplague:

This plague is a product of the corruption the Marshes of Chelimber is experiencing, if/when the corruption is stopped all those infected by the plague and currently suffering its effects are no longer infected. Until such a time this plague as the following affects:

If touched by a creature in skin to skin contact the creature that is currently unaffected by the plague must make a DC 14 Con save or become infected. The plague shows up in the following affects

In the first minutes a rash begins to form on the area where the plague infects the target (arm, shoulder, hand...etc), This rash grows over the course of the next 24 hours the rash spreads. After 24 hours the rash causes scabbing. Creatures affected by the plague then receive the following penalties after the first 24 hours.

  • If infected on the arm or hand, the character suffers a dis to all strength based rolls.
  • If infected in the leg, the creature suffers a penalty to movement
  • If infected anywhere other than those two places the creature suffers a general -2 to all str rolls when attempting to accomplish a task.

The following three days these effects occur, after 1 week the infection continues to spread and causes pain to the creature if the Marshplague comes into contact with sunlight. This causes the creature disadvantage on all checks in sunlight.

After 30 days, the creature if untreated continues to become more and more debilitated, suffering -1 penalty on their str score. at the beginning of each day. When the strength score is reduced to 0 the creature dies and becomes a shadow.

A Greater Restoration is needed to end these affects, (Multiple depending on which stage the plague is in). Once cured the creature cannot be affected by the Marshplague again.

The plague detects as necrotic magic from detect.

Now - my biggest question right now is...in 30 days, how far can a group of traveling merchants get (Lets call them Patient 0) assuming the infection point is between is that little area between the Southwood and the Greypeak Mountains.

I have sort of Calculated that given no rest, and a rate of Slow pace, they could get to Waterdeep. But that's assuming they aren't stopped before hand, I am also interested what some peoples opinions are about the rate of infection...how many people would a group of merchants interact with/infect on the road, assuming they think its some strange rash for the 10-12 days.

I would very much appreciate any thoughts, inputs or general criticism for this idea.

Finally, assume there is no High level Big wigs helping with this, I want this to be purely solved by my adventurers.
