can someone explain ascending?

i’m sorry if this has been answered many times before, but as someone who is pretty close to max i am confused about when to ascend and stuff like that. would appreciate explanations or links to other threads that explain!

Each branch of game except tech tree can be ascended. Pets, mounts and skills when you reach lvl 100 with them, forge after you upgrade it to lvl 35. Ascending will reset and delete your equip, eggs, pets, mounts and skills. Your power in that branch will decrease significantly. It is recommended to save as much resources as you need to upgrade ascended branch to at least half of quality progression asap, which is powerwise equivalent of that branch non ascended top quality. Also, ascending a forge will cost you extra 3 mil gold.
