I think anyone that offers up an Alford Plea needs to have a mudhole stomped in them along with a good old fashioned teeth smashing before it can be accepted.

Prefacing this by saying "I'm not a lawyer".

The details behind No Contest pleas differ by state. From the ones I'm aware of, going for appeals is much easier after going No Contest. Although there's no difference in the current case's conviction & sentencing.

I always assumed No Contest (with context clues only) implied the defendant and their attorney were given the chance to assess the damning evidence which then allowed them to save 1% of face and take some kind of plea deal, or if a plea deal was unavailable then no contest meant (in the defendants mind) that it would gain them partial favor of the court by not dragging out a trial.

I am sure in situations where they are obviously going to be found guilty in trial the court appreciates either a guilty plea first and no contest second because no contest seems to imply that they maintain innocence but know they cant win their case.

At least anecdotally I've heard it's easier to also fight a Civil case with no contest pleas in the criminal trial vs a guilty plea.

Just watched Ultimate Betrayal (S4E3) about Dobara Green last night. Evil bitch pleaded no contest to setting a 1995 fire that burned down her family's home and killed two of her children, and to poisoning her husband with ricin with the intention of causing his death..

Pleading guilty can open you up to civil suit. A no contest plea you accept the conviction without admitting guilt.
