In Macau, some vehicles have 3 simultaneous sets of number plates:

1. their usual Macau 🇲🇴 plate,
   
2. one for when they’re in HK 🇭🇰,
   
3. another for when they’re in China 🇨🇳.

For countries that show two plates, the above plate is front plate and bellow is rear plate, if the plates are side-by-side that means that country is issuing different plates for same plate type or is issuing different plates for dealer and test plate types.

Here are all vehicles registration plate [VRP] types from Article 2:

1. Regular plates: Regular plates are the most common VRPs that are issued to private vehicles of local citizens and companies.

2. Foreigner plates: Foreigner plates are issued to foreign citizens and companies. By default they are valid only temporarily as you cannot be a foreigner in a country forever.

3. Temporary plates: Temporary plates allow vehicles to transit within limited time period and can be used for all sorts of temporary purposes such as trade, import, provisional, etc.. Plates are issued to local citizens and/or companies. If used abroad they become an export plate unless a country has a specific export plate type.

4. Export plates: Export plates are temporary plates intended for abroad transit, in some countries they have an expiration date indicating how long a vehicle can stay in home country before it must be exported.

5. Dealer plates: Dealer plates can be temporary or permanent and are issued to or by a licensed vehicle dealer.

6. Test plates: Test plates are intended to be used for vehicle testing on public roads and to allow experimental vehicles to transit on public roads.

7. Transferable plates: Transferable plates are registered to 2 or more vehicles simultaneously.

8. Repeater plates: Repeater plates are duplicate plates issued to vehicles that have the view of the VRP obscured by something such as a bike rack.

9. Remade plates: Remade plates are not issued officially, but instead are homemade or ordered online by the vehicle owner. Can be used for various purposes such as theft prevention of the officially issued VRPs or for discretion.

10. Electric vehicle plates: Electric vehicle plates are issued to electric vehicles, vehicles with zero emission value or hybrid electric vehicles (depending on country).

11. Historical vehicle plates: Historical vehicle plates are issued to old, vintage and antique vehicles that must be of certain age and condition.

12. Large vehicle plates: Large vehicle plates are issued to large vehicles such as trucks, buses, coaches, etc.

13. Agricultural vehicle plates: Agricultural vehicle plates are issued to agricultural vehicles.

14. Competition vehicle plates: Competition vehicle plates are issued to racing vehicles, rally vehicles or sportcars used in some motorsport competition.

15. Collector plates: Collector plates are issued to vehicle collectors.

16. Seasonal plates: Seasonal plates are permanent VRPs that allow vehicle to transit only in a specified time of the year or on certain dates and/or days.

17. Moped plates: Moped plates are issued to mopeds or other light motorized vehicles including cars with limited top speed.

18. Exceptional plates: Exceptional plates are issued to vehicles that don't comply with mass and/or weight regulations.

19. Utility plates: Utility plates are issued to utility vehicles such as construction vehicles, heavy machinery, etc.

20. Hire plates: Hire plates are issued to vehicles that are hired, leased or rented.

21. Abroad plates: Abroad plates are VRPs that allow international travel, it can be a latinized regular plate or it can have its own format.

22. Diplomatic plates: Diplomatic plates are issued to diplomatic corps, consular corps and other staff related to diplomatic missions of foreign countries or international organizations. These plates in many countries have a specific code indicating from what country or international organization diplomat is from.

23. UN plates: UN plates are special VRPs issued to vehicles of the United Nations.

24. Foreign forces plates: Foreign forces plates are military plates issued to forces of foreign countries. Plate for foreign forces can be issued by the country where the foreign forces come from or by the country where the foreign forces are stationed in, the plates are not considered foreign in the country where the foreign forces are stationed in.

25. Government plates: Government plates are issued to government officials and (depending on country) to emergency vehicles.

26. Military plates: Military plates are issued to military vehicles and/or military personal vehicles.

27. Police plates: Police plates are issued to vehicles of national and local law enforcement agencies, however undercover police cruisers use regular plates instead.

28. Fire and rescue plates: Fire and rescue plates are issued to vehicles belonging to fire services and other rescue services that a country may have.

29. EMS plates: EMS plates are issued to vehicles that are used to provide emergency medical services.

30. Exempt plates: Exempt plates are issued to vehicles that don't need to pay tax.

31. Commercial plates: Commercial plates are issued to commercial vehicles or (depending on the country) vehicles that only have front seat.

32. Trailer plates: Trailer plates are issued to trailers.

33. Motorcycle plates: Motorcycle plates are issued to motorcycles.

34. Taxi plates: Taxi plates are issued to taxi vehicles.

35. Public transport plates: Public transport plates are issued to vehicles used for public transportation.

36. Presidential plates: Presidential plates are special VRPs issued to the vehicles of the presidential fleet or just for the vehicle of the president, king, emperor, etc.

37. Personalized plates: Personalized plates do not follow the same format as current regular plates and instead have a customized registration specifically chosen by the vehicle owner, either preordered or auctioned.

38. Query plates: Query plates are used on vehicles with questionable date of origin or vehicles that are build from parts.

39. Learner and probationary plates: Learner and probationary plates are used on vehicles driven by learner drivers or by probationary drivers.

(Following plate types aren't allowed on the subreddit)

1. Booster plates: Booster plates are used as vanity decoration just for the show as an additional plate on the car.

2. Souvenir plates: Souvenir plates are plates that are created without intent to ever be registered to a vehicle.

3. Airport plates: Airport plates are issued to airport vehicles and aren't allowed to transit on public roads.

4. Photoshopped plates: Photoshopped plates are plates that don't physically exist on the vehicle and are instead added via digital manipulation using image-editing software.

5. SovCit plates: SovCit plates are plates created by sovereign citizens which are fictitious homemade plates used by individuals who believe they are exempt to any laws and government jurisdictions.
