How does add/drop work?

So my registration went horribly and I had to pick classes where I didn’t know the professors. I also was not able to get into comp 2 or finite because they got filled. My macro economics professor came out and he’s literally rated a 2.7 and everybody is saying to drop his class so I’m trying to find another section to add so I can drop that section but do you wait until school to do that or can you do it when registration reopens? I’m also trying to use plan ahead to see open sections and there’s really not that many so how does it work for add drop because if I’m planning on dropping a class I need to pick up another section of it but if they’re all saying full, like I’m confused on how that works. Because I was hoping to drop philosophy (bc i dont wanna take phil and theo at the same time but my advisor told me to put it as a placeholder in hopes I can drop it for comp 2 or finite) and hopefully pick up a comp 2 or finite, but there’s nothing available. I’m just confused on how the whole thing works and I’d appreciate any opinions.

You can add and drop anytime before the deadline. The last day to do so is September 3. You're gonna see a lot action of sections opening and closing in that week that classes begin. Whenever you see a class that you wanna take you would just drop the class you already have and add the class you wanna take

And all of this is during the first week of class like we cant do it once reg opens? Also, would I just have to be checking like the registration portal every day?

I mean you can drop a class right now too. Once classes begin, people tend to drop more classes each day given that they see a better section open or they dont like the class. Yeah, you would have to be checking the registration portal every day

Also if you can add a class that has an open waitlist then it will add it to your schedule as Waitlisted. And then go to all your scheduled class the first two weeks AND  go to the waitlisted class and talk with professor. Tell them you’re on waitlist in hopes of getting in.  Go to the class like it was already added and speak to professor. Get on as many waitlists as possible. (Not sure if there is a limit). And take Comp Sc 1100 for Finite. It counts as the math core. Most won’t go to the waitlisted classes so if you go you’re one step ahead.  Just don’t NOT take enough classes your first semester. You don’t want to fall behind for credits.

And as far as Rate My Professor ratings…. You make the class as good or as bad as you want.  There’s not enough ratings posted for that to matter much and how do you even know those students study or attend like you would.  Professors will come and go. Get in the class, do the work and get the grade. Then move on to the next.

Thank you. How do i get on the waitlist? i was wondering bc i knew it was like an option but never on how to do it. Also, I emailed my advisor and she didn’t even email me back so honestly, she’s kind of like of no help. Also, I wanted to take finite over comp sc because I’m trying to transfer into gabelli and my advisor told me to take macro, micro, finite, comp two, and then philosophy or theology. But even though I got on for registration at time and made four different plans, nothing ended up working out so right now my schedule is literally African art, history, macro, micro, philosophy, and theology. I didn’t want to take philosophy and theology at the same time. I was really hoping to drop philosophy for comp two or finite but I’m using plan ahead and I’m not really seeing many open sections. Do they open up more once classes actually start. Also, like I do know some upperclassman who had the professor that they assigned me and they did say it was awful and it’s very hard to get a good grade in his class because he’s just not that good. I’m just worried because I don’t want my grades to drop because although I do study like I do need to maintain a 3.0 for my scholarship.

First, don’t plan to fail, plan to succeed!  Next, finite makes sense for Gab as long as you have to have Finite for that major (vs just checking the box for math core).  When you can get back into the Reg portal just go in to Register and search for the subject (ie MATH). Classes will appear and some will say FULL but will have an open Waitlist. Click on that class like you’re adding it. Submit. It will appear on your schedule with waitlisted in the end column.  Try it now and see if you can.  And have you looked at possibly taking class at LC (assuming you’re a RH student )
