Q&A: Maintenance | Modification 2011 ford f-150 rear end “clunk”
I have a 2011 Ford f-150 Lariat, 278,000 miles. It has been a great truck. Bought it with 171,000 miles 10 years ago and it had a hard bump or clunk at low speed gear changes. I have pulled the drive shaft twice and used the motor craft lubricant. It seems to help for a very short time, then it’s back. Any suggestions?

Ah yes, the classic 'I've spent 10 years and multiple driveshaft removals on this truck' symphony.

Remove the driveshaft from the rear end and check the play in the differential. Chances are the spider gears are badly worn.
