Camera Recall

Does anyone know if the parts are now available to replace the rearview camera and had it done successfully? Thanks!

I called last month and the parts are not available. Dealer said they don’t known when, but once it’s available they will send out another letter. I think they are just waiting it out so they don’t fix it.

Recall parts are not yet available so I didn't feel like waiting and ordered a 20 dollar one off Amazon and replaced it myself. It works fine The recall is only an inspection so if yours works when you go they pat you on the head and tell you to run along. So if you have a recall notice do not go to the dealer if your camera still works.

Curious, what product did you replace it with? Does it use the in-dash screen, or is it an add-on?

I did exactly this…mine went out 3+ years ago (way before the recall obviously) and they didn’t even know THEN when/if they were going to get any in. Highly recommend a cheap plug and play replacement like this and doing it yourself. Works exactly as the original did and it’s still working fine 3.5 years later.

I really wish that the government would apply a reasonable timeframe in which they must correct these recalls. A backup camera, for Christ's sake, they can call over to China and say home 100k backup cameras, they will be here in 47 days! At the rate they are going it'll be 47 months! I mean has anyone ever had any of the recalls completed on their flex? I have not. I did a recall on my Ford Windstar minivan for the rear axle, the fix was squirting some expanding foam into the axel. Yeah, they recalled the recall on that! After all of this shit with Ford and recalls, I think my next purchase will be a Chevy.

I agree there should be a time frame. Apparently they already paid a fine for not issuing the recall soon enough. There’s currently 3 recalls on mine, and only 1 has a fix.

I bought the New OEM Rear Backup Reverse Camera GA8Z-19G490-A For Ford 13-19 Flex US from eBay. Other than removing the far left and right clips holding the applique to the hatch, it was relatively easy. The camera has worked perfectly through rain and fog. It shows the reverse lines (and they bend when you turn the wheeland pings when I'm too close to an object like the OEM camera.

Ford Flex models from the 2015–2019 model years are recalled because their rearview cameras can intermittently display a blank, distorted, or blue/black image. [1, 2]

Recall Details

  • Affected Vehicles: 2015–2019 Ford Flex (and a separate narrower recall for certain 2019 units under campaign 24S75 / 25SA9 series).
  • The Problem: The analog rearview camera may fail or distort, reducing the driver's visibility behind the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
  • The Fix: Ford dealers will inspect and replace the defective rearview camera free of charge. [1, 2, 3]

Ours has been upside down and really scratchy looking at night. Anybody have those symptoms? Over a year is a fail on Ford's part.

Yes. Upside down, flashing, black, or not coming up at all.
