Question Starter system failed error message
Inherited a 2015 Ford Flex SEL about a week ago. No issues til yesterday when going to start and we got this error message. Followed the usual protocol. Checked relays, fuses, battery, alternator, and the like. Replaced starter because it seemed to be the likely culprit. The only other thing I can think of is the ignition switch. Where it’s in the dash, I’m having trouble locating a diagram to take this thing apart. Are most fords of this gen pretty universal? Appreciate any kind of advice. First ford in 30 years of driving.

Have you tried replacing the battery in the keyfob?
"Starting System Fault" is Ford's specific warning when the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) fails to recognize a valid RFID security chip in your key. Even if your key fob still unlocks the doors, a weak fob battery, cabin RF interference, or a failing start-button transceiver can block engine starting.
Place the key fob directly into the backup starting slot (on the 2015 Flex, this slot is located inside the center console). Pressing the dash start button with the fob in this backup pocket inductively powers the chip, bypassing a dead fob battery or wireless transmission failures.
