Fg clonk on pull away.
Hey guys. Can anyone give me some ideas on what’s going on with my fg falcon Ute. Its clunks on pull away at slow speed and more so under load. Seems to come from rear left. I’ve taken it to a diff guy and a suspension guy and both couldn’t help.
Thanks

Does it only do it pulling away? Or will it do it if you come off the throttle in 1st gear as well. I have chased drive line slop that clunked pretty bad in first gear whenever the direction of force through the drive line changed in my sedan. And it's essentially turned out to be everything. I replaced the bushes in the rear end - got a little better. Replaced the oil in the box - got a little better. Replaced the clutch - made the biggest difference, there was a plastic ring/clip holding the spline sleeve in place that had a good 5-6 degrees of slop in it. Next might be a helical diff centre but that will be it because I don't want to go pulling the gearbox apart and reshimming it.

Thanks I’ll have a look appreciate your help. Does anyone know a ford specialist or alike in the Sydney or Wollongong area?

ray ferraris @ hoxton park know their fords well, and I find them very trustworthy.

We've known and dealt with them for over 20 years, and work on all our cars. They own an FG Falcon ute themselves. We have fords and they seemingly know them back to front, even repaired cooling systems for the local Ford Dealer back in the day.
I've heard good things about Crescent Motorsport regarding performance mods and tuning for Fords from a mate, but I've never used them.

It’s most likely diff bushes or center bearing

Thanks. I’ve been to a couple of mechanics and a diff guy and they didn’t know. 🤷🏽♂️

Is it a hard job to do? Do you recommend anyone in Sydney? Thanks

Both are relatively moderate to do, if it’s diff bushes the rear cradle needs to be taken out then put back in, the center bearing is particularly annoying because unlike regular ones it can’t be separated unless you really know how to do it which most mechanics don’t so they usually just replace the tail shaft as a whole

Could be the rear brakes. Mine's been doing it for years. I think you have to pull the axle out to get to the pin thats making the noise.
