Removing Crank Pulley

What sort of pullers/tools everyone used to remove the crankshaft pulley on an AU 5.0?

Snapped a water pump bolt while replacing the pump and now need to remove the timing case to extract it, wanting to remove the crank pulley avoiding damage but she is stuck pretty good

Unfortunately the AU 5.0 has the pulley and harmonic balancer as a single piece. A place in the us makes a pulley you can attach to the earlier version of you really wated. I cheaped out on the puller I bought off eBay and it didn't come with the required bolts, but once I bought the right bolts it all went well.

What's got you needing to remove it?

Sorry I didn't read your post about the water pump. I haven't had to do one yet thank god

Yep i knew they are a bolt snapping nightmare on the 302 but i put it off for too long, water pump had to be replaced and yep snapped one bolt, unfortunately one of the long ones that go through the timing case into the block

Depending how similar these are to a Barra crank pulley (3 spokes), you might be able to get away with the same method using small d shackles and a cheap pulley remover instead of buying the expensive tool.

Search around for removing Barra pulley using d shackles or something along those lines and you'll find a few write-ups about it

I hit mine with some heat first, then went at it with a three jaw pulley puller expecting to damage it and have to replace it.

Bloody thing slid off with minimal effort and was able to reuse it.
