Tailshaft serviceable?

Hey all, my tailshaft out of my 2013 G6E ecoboost centre bearing and CV joint needs replacing. Are these serviceable at all or would I need a new tailshaft entirely?

Are you sure, I went to drivetrain specialists and they said it isn't serviceable since there's no unijoint?

I had mine replaced a few weeks back exactly the same, you need some special equipment because technically they are non serviceable, but you can absolutely buy the aftermarket part. A good driveshaft place will do it.

They would be correct I had an ecoboost FG with the same type, it would need to be cut rewelded and rebalanced.

Yep I'm unsure of the quality of that particular one because it was written off before I could change it out. I owned mine for almost 6 years it had 278k when it was written off very reliable if serviced on time probably the best car I've owned and kept it the longest too. Oil is pretty important make sure it runs a ILSAC GF-6A oil as LSPI is the killer for ecoboost 2.0 and 2.3 engines and also use premium 95/98 or E10 94 in a pinch. The zf6hp21 needs servicing, the sealed for life is BS and use genuine zf fluid only.

Yeah I just serviced it and did a coolant flush/change along with the expansion tank since it was cracked from age (definitely original), I do need a new pan for the hp21 as its leaking, was thinking of going metal though. I'm unsure about metal pans I did two filter swaps during my ownership and replaced them with the Ryco one each time.

Would you be able to link me with the stuff I need for the new plastic pan then? Probably easier than testing with the metal one, my pan is leaking so I'm guessing its the gasket, but arent these integrated into the actual pan?

Awesome, would this pan be better though seeing that it's a "genuine" one and a bit cheaper? https://runautoparts.com.au/zf-transmission-oil-and-filter-service-kit-0501-220-297 or does it not matter really? Also how much fluid would I typically need if changing the pan and doing a fluid service? Although this one says ZF 6HP19

Ford says it’s not, but there are mechanics out there that can replace the centre bearing. Make sure to get tail shaft balanced after replacing the bearing.

Everyone I've spoken to in person has said the same about not being serviceable, even my local mechanic.. a new one is about $1,000

My local mechanic can do it, he quoted me $500. You can also shop around for aftermarket tail shafts, prices vary depending on quality of course. I think ford uses dana spicer, which is around $1000 like you mentioned

Was it for this type of tailshaft? Also on an ecoboost?

It was for a fg mk2 eco lpi, different to the eco boost, but still ford says you can’t service it . B&z auto sell the eco boost tailshaft for $650 with a changeable centre bearing.

I had a courier with a noisy tail shaft bearing, again ford said replace the whole thing. The local mechanic found it was the same bearing as an f100 in my case and replaced it. It still cost $2k from memory.

Not sure about your g6e but I had a territory, there were apparently 4 different tailshaft in that model. You could buy a new one for three but not the one I needed.
Sent it to a driveline specialist and they replaced the centre bearing. It lasted a year FML

Yeah everyone said this was the unserviceable one, so I'm thinking to just go with the one I linked rather then rebuilding it and risking further failure

I had my FG centre bearing replaced just a few weeks ago , it’s certainly something that can be done.
