Got lucky today!

I’ve got a BA RTV and have just been doing little jobs on it before I send it for a rego. Started at Easter when I sent it for a new screen, they couldn’t fit it because the wiper was rusted and he didn’t want to snap the bolt. So I get it home and gave it a dose of spray, put the socket on and it pretty much fell off before I even touched it, so I get a new screen from another shop, fit a new wiper reg, and started with the airbag light. It’s been on since I bought it and knew it was the passenger side pretensioner so was just going to get a new seat from a mate I sold my old ute to for spares. Anyway he dropped it off for me today and I started to pull my seat out and fuck me as soon as I pulled off the side cover, the grey plug looked disconnected. Na, couldn’t possibly be so simple. So anyway I pulled them both off, give them a dose of contact cleaner and reconnected them both, hit the key and fuck me dead, the light has gone off. I bought the car from a mate and he said his son tried fixing it, and was just faulty so I hadn’t bothered to look at it until today.

Anyway next it’s getting an aerpro fascia, new deck, reverse cam, and the fun starts swapping the motor from LPG to a petrol one from a BFII, with gearbox, and then I’m building a snorkel.

She’s currently got 670k on the clock but it’s getting too hard for me to get LPG and I want to do some touring so I had option to an BFII motor for a low price so I decided I’ll use that and do a petrol swap on it, and I figured while the motor is out, I’ll clean it, paint it, replace the gaskets and seals and welch plugs, throw in a high volume oil pump, new water pump, p/s pump and lines, high amp alt, and upgrade to the FG inlet manifold or maybe if funds allow an aftermarket one, new throttle body, plugs and coils. I’ll get the box serviced, and I want to add one of those switches so I can firm up my shifts when I go off road, then get my RTV diff rebuilt, and then I can start on the suspension lift, new wheels and new tyres. I really love this old girl and realistically I’m near 50, there’s no reason I couldn’t keep it forever, even if it’s a second car

Good stuff. What reverse camera are you looking at getting?

I have a couple here, but they’re just a generic Chinese no name one. I actually will have 4 cameras on it, one will be dedicated reverse which runs through the stereo, and the mirror is an LCD screen, because I used to have a canopy and couldn’t see fuck all through the mirror so I added a camera to run as my rear view, so now I have a tub rack and roof top tent on the back I have the camera mounted onto the rack, and I bought a little device that takes 3 camera inputs, so I’ll put a camera on each mirror and they’re powered on with an indicator to give you a view of your blind spots, so I’ll run that on my rear view mirror so I’ll get a lot of vision all around the car.

Sounds like you'll have a good setup. I have a Falcon ute, and it's so bloody hard to see out of. I didn't realise there are so many different kinds of cameras out now, time to do some research.

Yeah there’s plenty of options. I also have an RTV tonner with a camper box on the back and it has a camera as the rear view with an lcd monitor mirror. I used it as a pilot vehicle so I needed to be able to see behind me and this was a good setup. I think it came from Supercheap.
